Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's been there a long time. Fastidiously maintained. If you want to see the best effort in Christmas decorations hot foot it to this two level arcade. But some hand made chocolates have a coffee in one of the two cafes. Upstairs has many antique jewellers, watchmakers and the Room with Roses restaurant. Upstairs you can get the best view of the Christmas decorations .

There is a fascinating history of the Patrick Mayne family whose land investments in the late 1800s funded this arcade as well as the land for the Uni of Queensland and the Herston Medical School. If you go to the lift the history of the arcade in on the wall. A Brisbane Ghost tour has a fascinating story also of the arcade and any other time you might run into a ghost or two upstairs of a previous milliner and maybe Mrs Mary Mayne herself from the 1860s occupation of this area of Queen Street.

Brisbane is lucky to still have this rare arcade. A fascinating selection of stores and heritage architecture. May it last forever.

By old, it is old in years but modern in the shops. Not quite so interesting as it once was but still it is nice to wander through

We were in Brisbane just before Christmas and the shops in the Brisbane Arcade were decorated for the season. Fabulous shops. Beautiful architecture. An absolute gem.

The Brisbane arcade is magical at Christmas and I highly recommend a visit.
Every year the decorations are beautiful and the stores are of top quality and there is a lovely Cafe as well. The amenities are always kept spotless.
Photos are from last Christmas 2021 but this year is pretty similar.I highly recommend a visit at this time of year.

Before the concept stores and multi-level shopping centres existed in Queen Street, it was the Arcade that the shoppers who were looking for a unique experience with couture fashion and jewellery would flock to. It is the oldest remaining arcade in Brisbane and it was built in 1923.

Designed by Richard Gailey Junior, an Irish-Australian architect who designed many of Brisbane's most notable buildings. (He died the year after this was built) The architecture features Edwardian Baroque style facades,  terrazzo flooring, clerestory lighting, dado panelling and carved balustrades.

I have visited this arcade on several occasions over the years and each time I stand in awe at how exquisite it is.

For those that had visited Melbourne Royal Arcade, this is similar. However, it is much smaller in scale. Very boutique selections of stalls to visit.

Well worth the time to browse through this small arcade with some interesting shops. Mainly boutique like shops selling unique and quality products. The building itself is very beautiful and worth it just to admire the architecture

We have enjoyed visits to similar arcades in various countries during our travels. Brisbane Arcade runs between Queen and Adelaide Streets although the official address is 160 Queen Street. The upper levels of both entrances are very decorative and inside its almost like stepping into a different era of muted style and grandeur, so different to the steel, concrete and glass constructions of recent years. Shops on the ground and first floor shops accessible via stairs, I didn't see an elevator. Shops are boutique style with a nice variety of outlets and restaurants.

Brisbane arcade is the best hidden step back in time I've seen in a long time. The noise of Queen street is magically gone...replaced with music from 60 or so years ago. The nail salon, the lunch cafe, Rose room, and Tree of Life are favorites and repeat visits are necessary☺
