- Lynette Clara BWhitsunday Islands, Australia179 contributionsConvenient but overpricedWe used air train after travelling down to Brisbane on the tilt train and we were flying out the next day on holidays, we found the service quite expensive and they do not offer concession rate but it is convenient the staff at Roma street were very helpful and made it easy. Unfortunately on the way home the conductor at Brisbane airport station was in a bad mood or really just didn’t want to be at work and as it was our first time working out the station and ticketing etc he could of been a little more helpful instead of bellowing out at customers including us, we did manage to work it ourselves but definitely not any customer service like we received at Roma street and that’s unfortunate as most people using this service are on holidays. It was good but we wouldn’t look at air train to be our first choice.Hi LynetteJacko, can you please send an email with the full details on when this occurred to marketing@airtrain.com.au so that we can investigate this event. We do pride ourselves on our customer service, so we would like to address this as soon as possible. - deep_future5 contributionsPrepare fo a slow and crowded trip2,5 hours 90kms from Brisbane Airport to Surfers Paradise is a disaster. We are on the tramlink and there isn’t enough space for baggage and sits. You really need to upgrade your system to world standards in Brisbane/Gold CoastHi deep_future, we are sorry you didn't enjoy your experience with us. We will pass on your feedback to the G:link tram about there space for luggage and seating.Written 14 May 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 April 2023
- Hozke10 contributionsDaylight robbery, no overnight trains. It's a bad joke when a single ticket price for a train is within spitting distance of a Taxi/Uber. If there's 2 or more people travelling together, it's not even a question, private transport is cheaper every time. Also, no trains at night? Great first impression for all the international visitors. This government has a very funny idea of what "public transport" should be.Hi Hozke, Thank you for your feedback, our operating hours meet 95% of flights coming into Brisbane Airport. We are a private transport operator that connects into the suburban network. We do offer group discounts to the City, with fares just $15 per person, and offer online discounts for pre-purchased tickets as well. - max736San Diego, California38 contributionsFast and convenient but FREQUENT shutdowns/track workWhen the train is running it is great. Inexpensive and fast and comfortable to get anywhere in Brisbane. Although there's no luggage area I never have a problem finding a place for my luggage. The issue I have is that there seems to be track work way too often with the airtrain shut down half the time I want to use it. When the train is shut down there is a replacement bus, but the bus only goes between the airport and Roma Street, so if you're going anywhere else it is inconvenient. Being that Brisbane is going through major transportation upgrades I expect this track work will be going on for some time.Hi max736, thank you for your four star review and feedback. Unfortunately, as the South East Queensland network is being significantly upgraded to accommodate for the new Cross River Rail project and Brisbane Metro, we are experiencing higher than usual track work, but we are working with Queensland Rail and Translink to minimise disruptions to our customers. We apologize for the inconvenience during this time.Written 11 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 8 September 2023
- Happiness323209027201 contributionWhat would a Foreigner thinkJust imagine you have just landed in Australia for the first time. You have been travelling for more that 22 hours on flights and lay overs, delays.. your on your way to the Goldcoast. You can wait to see this beautiful country. You get to the air train and...( pictures attached) honestly I would be ashamed to let people get this impression of Australia, right off of the plane. I understand that the train is old but there is no excuse to letting it get to this point. And worst of all it costs $40+ to goldcoast in this train. I can't even look out of my windows without seeing profanities written on it. I just got back from up in Queensland and I live in goldcoast buy it is astonishing to think people see this when the come from the airport . Very disgusted. Do better the people deserve more.Hi Happiness32320902720, thank you for your feedback and the images. I am sorry that this was yur experience on Airtrain. I have sent this to Queensland Rail along with your images. We generally have the new rollingstock on our Airport line, however, occasionally we do have an older train on the line (these are being phased out).Written 11 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 September 2023

Signage within the airport is misleading stating the train leaves every 15 minutes but it as every 30 minutes.
Once on the train there is no space for luggage even though it is an airport train. So everyone has to sit one person per two seats to allow for luggage.

What an unreliable service this has become! Almost never on time in busy times (when it is most important), cancelled services with no notice, significant timing changes with almost no notice! Don’t rely on this service to get you to the airport on time, or to your destination on time! AVOID!!!!

The 16.46 service was cancelled, and the next service (where I write this review) is currently stationary in front of Albion station. It had not moved for 20 minutes. Completely unreliable service and if the actual arrival time had been given before I passed through the ticket gate I would have taken a cab!

I sat next to 84 year old lady on plane to Brisbane. She needed to get to Gympie. I walked her to airtrain airport stop. staff took her under their wing and even told staff at Cental when she got to look after her.

Today at the domestic airport I received the most disgusting “customer service” from a man named Danny. A man who not only dismissed me when I was more then polite to him, but a man who also proceeded out of the office (slamming the door behind him) and followed me towards the train to yell at me and give me a lecture about his views on “customer service.” This took place in front of other customers so I hope he gets multiple complaints as he deserves nothing less. His attitude and argumentative demeanour was all over the punching of a train ticket which is literally a 2 second task! He should not be working in customer service AT ALL and should be ashamed of himself for being so unnecessarily aggressive and rude!

Great affordable way to travel from the city to the airport. If you prebook and pay online $15 per head. Definitely can’t complain about that. I will say the website was hard to understand but the Central Station Customer Service lady was amazing.

I had a terrible service experience at the international airport station by manager Sarah, staff Annette and Daniel. (too long I can't write here) I sent a feedback email on that day and called customer hotline again in early Oct. Yet, till today 18 Oct, it's been almost a month and they still didn't bother to give a fuxx about unpleasant customer experience. Not even an apology. Shame on them. Never again.

This is a great service between Brisbane Airport and downtown - punctual, clean, great staff. Highly recommended and will use again without hesitation.
But BEWARE when using your Air Train e-ticket on QLD Smart Ticket readers at the stations. Ensure that you have disabled any other payment means on your device. And the refund process for QLD TransLink overcharges (not Air Train's responsibility) is an absolute nightmare unless you're a QLD resident.

Hi Trail53681408097, thank you for your feedback. We have installed signs on the Smart Ticket readers notifying eTicket customers to see staff to have their eticket scanned. We are very sorry that you did not find the process simple. The Smart Ticketing machines are managed by Translink and we are working closely to assist in this process. Kind regards, Airtrain

Tried to book online through Paypal but ticket didn't load and payment went through. I hadn't received any confirmation number on the website or through email, I had only received a receipt from Paypal. I then tried to call the free phone and the call centre representatives were very rude and just told me to try and book again. They said there was no booking and there was no way for them to check that the payment went through? They then tried to say that they were having issues with their website and with paypal. Sounds a bit suspicious. They could have asked for proof of payment, which I have, but they didn't even bother. First time trying to book with them and never again. I'd recommend the extra effort through Toombul station. A lot cheaper and definitely more reliable.

I travelled from airport and was going to Gold Coast. Got to south bank and was told to disembark as track work being carried out. No information was given at any stage. Then told by station staff to go to bus station and catch a bus. Unfortunately the station attendant couldn't converse in good English. Me and 8 other passengers with baggage then attempted to continue our journey. Absolutely terrible service after travelling long distance by air. No wonder the roads are full of cars as public transport is useless.

Hello, it is incredibly difficult to find this info on Airtrain web page (??), so I need to ask like this: when is the last train in a day I can catch from Brisbane Domestic Airport to Gold Coast on January 5th 2020 (it is Sunday)?
I need to buy my flight ticket to Brisbane airport, so I need to land early enough to catch my last ride to the Gold Coast.
I just cannot find this info on Airtrain page, can someone please help me? Thank you

Any information about public transport in Brisbane and surrounds, you will find online, at Translink. It has a lot of information including a Journey Planner. Unfortunately it does not extend for more than a month. However there is a plethora of information in downloadable timetables. Airtrain comes under Queensland Rail (QR), so you probably won't find any transport information on their website. If you look up train timetables for the Airport-Gold Coast line you will find what you are seeking. Good luck!

How far in advance can you buy ticket from a train station from Gold Coast to Brisbane airport

The previous answer is correct. At rail stations you can only buy for day of travel but online you can obtain a month in advance,
Google Queensland Air Train for full information.

my wife went to Brisbane international from Nerang (gold coast) this morning she said it cost $35 which was more than she thought -- is it cheaper if you use a go card at the gold coast station (or Brisbane international) ??

The Airtrain is privately owned so they set the charges & therefore no cheaper if you use your GoCard. I can only suggest using your GoCard to Bowen Hills - tap off & tap on again to Int/Domestic Airport if you can conveniently.

Hi, yes we have two close stations Central Station and Roma St Station. We have a journey planner online which will help you decide which station is best depending on the location you are staying. We hope you have a great trip to Brisbane.
