About
Built in the 1880's when local tradition was at its most opulent, Miegunyah is one of Brisbane's most accessible Heritage Homes. Richly decorated with iron-lace balustrades, filigree columns and friezes, and furnished in the style of the late 19th century, Miegunyah is a living example of Victorian elegance and charm. Step through the wide cedar door way into the House Museum, be fascinated by exotic collectables from travels afar, learn about the people who lived at Miegunyah and ghosts that never left. Even glimpse the labours of 19th century housekeeping! Miegunyah is open to the public for tours and morning / afternoon teas. Miegunyah is also available for group visits, special interest groups, corporate and private functions.

Of course I do like historic homes and this is a great example of an 1885 Brisbane historic home. There is a modest entrance fee which also covers the cost of informative volunteers who help guide you around the house. Plenty of period pieces to look at but sadly few survive from the original home. Worth a call in along with nearby Newstead house.
Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. There is street parking and toilets available. There were tea facilities available when we visited.

A great way to spend a couple of hours exploring the way the people lived in early Brisbane. A beautiful example of Queensland architecture furnished the way it used to be. Lots of interesting things to see and stories to hear from well informed house guides. Relax on the wide verandah with a scone with jam and cream along with a plunger of coffee or a pot of tea enjoying the view and the breeze. A hidden gem.

Our visit was the setting for a beautiful afternoon wedding. The weather was glorious, a band entertained from the veranda and the music floated to the guests spread around the garden. This is a wonderful pioneer homestead with particular attention to women's history. A tour of the venue was incorporated into the relaxed reception and enjoyed by all. Take the time to visit - it is generally open three days a week and available for private functions.

Miegunyah is the gracious Victorian home of the wealthy Perry family and it gives a very good idea of how people lived in those times in Brisbane. We had a tour which went for about half an hour, not expensive and our guide was knowledgeable and interesting. What we really enjoyed was having a devonshire tea on the wide verandahs .....the real floral china teacups were quite a unique experience. This amazing house museum run by the Queensland Womens' Historical Association is well worth a visit.

A great relaxed place to visit. The house guides are very informative and helpful, also very proud of the Queensland Women's Historical Assn. and their attempts to keep and display interesting and poignant articles of local history.
Tea or coffee with scones was great to have on the verandah, felt like we could live the nostalgia!
Children were interests could be catered for with a children's room display.

This charming historic home and museum is owned and maintained by the Queensland Women’s Historical Association.
My wife and I visited Miegunyah House on Wednesday 27th May 2015 and spent two and a half glorious hours in this treasure of a museum. We arrived at 10:30 in the morning when the doors just opened. We were met at the front door by Dianne, a volunteer, who gave us a historical introduction to the house. She also mentioned that the house had been used by the Australian Government during WW2 as the camp for the Z Special Unit.
Sandra, another friendly volunteer, laid out a table for us in the veranda where we enjoyed a most pleasant Devonshire tea, which we had opted for.
The current exhibition “We Will Remember” commemorates the centenary of ANZAC Day and the Gallipoli Campaign. The ANZAC exhibits were fascinating historic memorabilia that were tastefully displayed and interspersed amidst the more permanent furnishings and decor of the rooms.
A very sweet and delightful volunteer named Pat then showed us through the various rooms of the house and gave us a most interesting and in-depth guided tour. There was so much to see and Pat was a treasure-house of information. As lovers of historic homes, antiques and memorabilia, we absolutely adored every moment of our visit and learnt a great deal. We would recommend this attraction very highly indeed.
During our visit, we were privileged to meet Jenny, the president of the Association, and Marilyn, the secretary. Pat, Sandra and Dianne each bade us farewell as we left the house on completion of our most enjoyable tour.

This is an elegant house of the Victorian era which is looked after by volunteers. In an exhibition which will replaced by another in a few months, the museum has an extensive collection of artefacts and photographs from World War One, but we were disappointed to find little information about its advertised role in WW2. The $7.50 entrance fee is a bit steep and even though we had declined a guided tour we were made to feel uncomfortable by the lady volunteers who followed us around, presumably to make sure we didn't steal anything, and who persistently bailed us up with unwanted information. We were glad to leave because, with less interference, we would have stayed longer.

Dear Rebecca,
I'm sorry to hear that you had an uncomfortable experience at Miegunyah. I will pass your feedback on to the relevant parties for future reference.
Regarding your other concerns - at this time, our display is focused mainly on World War 1, due to the Gallipoli anniversary. Hopefully, in time, we will have a display focused around Miegunyah's role in World War.
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback,
Jo

Miegunyah House Museum Open House at Miegunyah what a lovely visit to this exquisite house maintained by the Queensland women’s historical association. My fav item was of course the Wine Chest and I loved playing with Hagrid who entertained the children for a touch of fantasy. Otherwise it was a lovely step back into what brisbane was like at the turn of the century. Volunteers were amazingly friendly and informative. Tea and scones were delicious. I’m going back 💕💕💕

We spent a delightful hour visiting this beautiful Heritage listed house. That is probably enough time. Our guide, Janet provided a personal tour to us and explained all the hidden mysteries in this old house. Lovely to hear about the early days of Brisbane.

Very interesting place. The caretakers of this historic home are doing a great job in restoring and managing this historic home. A discussion with members of committee was also very informative about the local area.

hi
after gone through your website, I noticed that it was mentioned that ghost never left the house, is that true? or just a make up story?
thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,
In a house as old as Miegunyah, there is certainly an atmosphere that lends itself to such things- but in Miegunyah's case, any ghost is definitely more of the friendly, quiet sort.
Thanks for your question!
