Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Brisbane City Botanical Garden was so soothing like a green lung to refresh city environment. Beautifully landscaped garden had a thematic development with ponds and fountains surrounded by well-kept lawns. Botanical gardens has effectively camouflaged itself with barriers of tall trees and palms along its perimeter towards the city. Planting beds were quite pretty with flowering plants and we were able to spot giant lizards basking in the sun. Border with the Brisbane River was a fine area to relax watching the activity in the river.

Perfectly sized for an hour or two of strolling, these gardens are well worth a visit if for no other reason than to escape the hustle and bustle of central Brisbane. We visited later in the afternoon, however, and were surprised to find that cafes etc. in the gardens (and indeed in the city centre) were already closed, so do bear this in mind. Apparently it's a Brisbane/Queensland thing.

I came with bestie Christine & daughter Soph to take in the the talk of the town, Lightscape, in September 2024. Uncle Dave shouted & we Ubered from Kelvin Grove into the City on dusk for the light spectacular. We had a blast & the whole night was magical. There were 2 indigenous light sculptures and the whole City Botanic gardens (which is huge) was lit up with colour and light exhibits from top to tail. It was a 1.8km trail through the gardens taking us beneath tree canopies illuminated in colour, larger-than-life flowers, shining neon roots, and through dynamic glowing tunnels all made of light. On our journey through the light spectacular there was a surprise cocktail bar (we opted for espresso martini’s), a marshmallow toasting station (Soph loved this) and a line up of food vans at the end to take care of dinner with plenty of choice sweet crepes, German sausage & sauerkraut, kebabs & more. The gardens really transformed into something otherworldly & it was an unforgettable night.

What a gorgeously beautiful and relaxing haven in the middle of the city. We loved whiling away a few hours here in between accommodation changes enjoying a beautiful coffee and muffin at Bear Bones where we met the amazing photographer and bird watcher Patricia Woods. We learnt so much in a short time. The Gardens are a credit to all who work there and to the City of Brisbane for their support. Bravo and Thank You. Mike and Tania A from Balingup WA.

A peaceful haven right in the centre of the city. Not at its best when we visited - a lot of maintenance needing done and the borders past their best. That said there were lots of different areas with plenty to see and admire and a great place for walking / sitting. We are avid gardeners and enjoyed our time here. We would like to see it at other times of year. Too many cyclists / electric scooter riders going far too fast - need to be stopped as they are spoiling the ambience.

Lovely parkland near the CBD for a walk, picnic, relaxing...... Nice path along the Brisbane River. Various garden theme areas, including rainforest, palm grove, bamboo grove, formal flower garden, the lagoons, many open lawn areas. Some plants are labelled, but it would be good to see more labels on interesting plants for those interested in botany and gardens. For a more thorough large botanic garden visit the Brisbane Botanic Gardens - Mount Coot-tha (public bus available from city).
The City Garden has an information kiosk and café. Go for a stroll.

We visited the City Botanic Gardens after dining across the road at The Walnut Room.
We visited at night and the park seemed safe with lots of lighting and plenty of visitors. It looked great all lit up and was beautifully maintained with the sound of wild life.
This park is a heritage-listed botanic garden and is bordered by the Brisbane River,
These gardens contain many rare botanic species including a collection of cycads, palms, figs and bamboo.

When in Brisbane make sure you put at least 2 hours aside to walk around and in these gardens. Perched on a peninsular surrounded by water and city skyscrapers its a calm from the noise of the city. The trees are spectacular and the variety of plants is huge and very different for a Brit visiting.

A wonderful greenery area right in the heart of the CBD. Definitely recommend visiting the illuminated Fairy Trees at the south end of the park after sunset as they make for some stunning photos. Most floral displays were full and healthy but a handful looked like they needed some TLC. Be aware that there are only a couple of toilets available and it can be an effort to find one if you get caught out!

The origins of the gardens date to 1828 when they were established as a food source for the early penal colony. In 1855 the City Botanic Gardens officially opened with many varieties of tropical fruit trees and plants introduced and ornamental plantings to provide recreation areas. We took the self-guided walk trail, well, most of it through Weeping Fig Avenue, Bamboo Grove, Palms & Fig Trees, Lagoon & Fern Island, the ornamental ponds and other areas and then arrived at the pathway along the riverbank and exiting at Albert Street entrance. I consider the gardens to be more passive than Roma Parklands or Mount Coot-tha but that in no way diminished our enjoyment of the vegetation and facilities.

You can sit nearly anywhere. But I believe there may be some tables overlooking the river.
