- ItchyFeetCamarillo, California11,639 contributionsBeautiful peaceful gardensWondered around looking for colorful flowers and especially birds and it’s a great park to walk around. Mostly locals having picnic and sitting at benches or on grass. Lots of birds if you are into birds. Lots of different sections and several water features. Definitely recommend if the like gardens and bird watchingVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 October 2023
- Maud TBrisbane, Australia3 contributionsFamily destinationAwesome parkland, I last visited when it was railway yards so it's great to see the change. We went on the little train tour, looked at the plants, checked out the water dragons. Nice for kids but we didn't have any wish us.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 November 2023
- PaulBartlettYork, United Kingdom217 contributionsA very special parkBy pure good luck our hotel was across the road. What a simply beautiful park. So varied with some great livestock. Birds are always a pleasure but the Eastern Water Dragons are something special. Just a pity we weren't there for the Christmas lights, which were being installed and looked like they would be spectacular. Reading that this must have been a flat railroad yard only 20 plus years ago, so a huge amount of work must have been necessary to develop this special place.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 December 2023
- KBofLBLittleborough, United Kingdom555 contributionsDon't tread on the water dragons!I visited Roma Street Parkland on a visit to Brisbane some ten years ago. I enjoyed that visit, but I noted on this occasion that there has been significant development in the meantime. The formal flower beds have been increased in size and looked wonderful. I was particularly impressed by the rainforest area and its colony of flying foxes. I managed to avoid treading on any of the abundant eastern water dragons! This is an essential site for visitors to Brisbane to include on their itinerary.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 March 2024

Beautifully manicured and presented gardens with lots of floral design features to marvel at. I love the tropical area where mists are created as you walk through it. These delightful living creations are a must to visit, guaranteed to wow you and a great place to take selfies and photos.

Of the three Gardens that we visited in Brisbane, we agreed that Roma Parklands was simply stunning. It's an amazing transformation of an old rail yard, produce market and the historic Albert Park to gardens that are considered one of the best contemporary display gardens in Australia. It is described as a" horticultural experience showcasing unique sub-tropical vegetation in comparative displays with other species from around the world." It is indeed spectacular and enchanting with the amazing displays, manicured lawn areas, lake and water features, bridges and monuments. Strategic seating allowed us to sit and admire the creative displays, a photographers paradise. We visited on the Tuesday, just wished that we had been aware of the Parkland Explorer which provides a scenic train ride through the park Wednesday to Sundays inclusive.

This park is a must-do when in Brisbane. It is central but a little tricky to get to.
We followed a route through the Roma Steet Railway Station passageway from Roma Street to the parkland on the cliff above the railway. If you find a railway ticket barricade an attendant will wave you through the open gate.
We had two hours between films at the nearby Barracks Cinema and a visit to this park worked perfectly. Lunch at the cafe followed by a stroll though the gardens.

What a stunning little hidden treasure is the River City's Roma Street Parklands. Snuggled in behind the Roma St Transit Centre (currently in long-awaited new upgrade as part of our new CrossRiverRail link), this magnificently-manicured gardens is a wonderful discovery to make adjacent to the heart of our CBD. The only minor downside is that the Parklands are almost entirely on the side of a rather inclined hillside so virtually all walking tracks are quite up and down....very little flat ground in the Parklands!

We thought we would take the kids (5 and 2) to the park while in Brisbane city.
Unfortunately a good deal of the Brisbane cbd and most of the parks have been over run with homeless camps.
When we were walking past one section, the smell of urine was over powering, then one woman confronted us and started following us, holding up a $5 note for our 5 year old daughter and calling out to her.
Understandably, we and in particular our daughter was upset.
Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend going to this or any other park in Brisbane until they tackle this issue - rather enjoy it from afar (like in the aircraft departing Brisbane city).

The park is well worth a visit to relax or take a walk with a very good sub tropical plant section. There is a cafe plus many places to sit and relax or you can walk around the park and lake. Good views of the city and a easy walk from the city or you can catch the free loop bus.

This is a truly fantastic park with vast lawns, bridges, waterfalls, playgrounds, fountains and walking paths.
We visited the park towards dusk, when it was getting ready to close, but I'd suggest to get there earlier in the afternoon, to allow a slower-paced stroll of at least an hour.
Entrance is free.

We stayed in a hotel next to the parkland. Really beautiful gardens and an outdoor cinema with auditorium style seating. A beautiful walk at sunset with a wonderful statue of Gandhi. Most surprising thing we saw were the huge bats hanging in the trees and flying out at sunset.

Landscaping hard to beat. There's a "Ferngully" rainforest section and with elements of wildlife around you and the exceptional upkeep and maintenance and water features, this needs to be visited if you come to Brisbane. Water Dragons, Butterflies of various types, birdlife etc makes this a beautiful site.

Roma street parklands are a great place to take the kids for the day. There are plenty of walking paths through rainforest, flower beds, trees and around the central lake. There is a great café on site that does good food and drinks. There's plenty of open grassed area to let the kids run around and kick a ball etc. There's a fair amount of paid parking right next to the parkland. From memory it was $17 for a full day of parking. Great place in cooler weather to have a picnic/day out

I am flying with my pet dog who has an airline approved crate. Can I travel from Brisbane airport to varsity lakes on the train with her in the crate ?
Written 29 August 2022
I really don't know but some brief checking online indicates pets are not allowed on trains.

Can we take a small dog on trains and buses?
Written 8 July 2018
Only if it is an assistance dog, such as a guide dog for visually impaired people. Otherwise animals are not allowed on public transport.
Written 17 July 2018
Yes, free. Parking is limited and you have to pay. You can jump on the train and get off at Roma Street station then you have a short walk to the Parklands. Cafe is expensive and not worth it, so take your own....cheaper and nicer to have your own picnic.

Can you walk a dog through the park?
Written 12 March 2017
Parking is available in a few places around the Parkland and within Roma Street Parkland. And YES there are disabled parking spaces within the parkland.
Written 7 January 2017
Parking varies on different days. If you train it to Roma Street is is not a far walk from the station. The parking can be on the streets around the grounds at meter parking or in the parklands.
Written 8 January 2017
visitbrisbane website tells me "Parking is available at a number of locations throughout and adjacent to the parkland. There are nearly 200 car parking spaces (including 11 disabled car parking bays) within Roma Street Parkland. Car parking spaces are located at College Close Car Park and along Parkland Boulevard. Undercover car parking is also available within the residential apartments complex. Parking fees vary during the week and weekend."
