Nice place for lazy afternoon. Everything you need is well in reach. Superb for families with small children. We rented bikes and drove next to the river.

Really good place to spend a sunny day walking and having a bite to eat. Able to hire bikes and scooters. Swimming available for the kids and museum and art gallery available.

As an early riser, and staying at a near by Hotel, I walked the parklands strip each morning for a week. It was absolutely amazingly beautiful. The gardens, swimming areas, Temple, Epicurious, statues and views of the City, Everything so open and well maintained.
The Cultural Centre frames this area unobtrusively,
Offering entertainment to everyone at every level.
Owing to recent flooding, the ferries were not in service.

Visited the Southbank Parklands today. I’m visited with my support worker and dog- Cavalier. The water play areas were spectacular and very popular with families of young children. The beach area was immaculate and inviting (to foreigners and Southerners- bit too cold for Queemslanders this time of year. lol). The vegetable gardens were wonderful and the staff friendly and informative when questioned about the various plants. The area (and idea) for child Yoga was terrific. The paths clean and easy to traverse in my wheelchair.
My only complaint is about the seating area around the food court - area near Subway, - not under Parklands control (I asked) . The seats appeared to have been simply collected from curbside rubbish pickup and placed in that spot - horrible to look at. Brought down the appearance of the entire eating area. Disgusting.
Will definitely visit the Parklands again with friends and family…but will make other arrangements for our lunch

Great place to stroll through or transit through to Kangaroo Point or Town.
Hit badly by the floods and covered with mud, in areas fenced off. Watched over the days as the hard work of the work force, cleaned up and made good.
Pool is pool is out of action and is undergoing upgrades and changes to improve experience.
Can not wait to visit and see the new works in coming future.

How far is airport from this area ? Can you take a morning flight from here ?

Hello...yes the beach is about 30 mins from the airport by train. If you are staying in central Brisbane, it's a short walk. The city beach is lovely and there are life savers there too.

Hi, there are lights and security, but as in all city parks over the world, one must take care in darkness (especialy in parks).

Hi Courtney. The main beach area is lit enough that you can see around when you are in the water.

Can you erect sun shelters at the parklands beach?
GregSelf
Brisbane, Australia55 contributions
The official answer is "No" for the sand and possibly the whole parkland. You could be fined and/or asked to leave, though I can't see how they could stop you coming back to another area. If you Google images of the beach and the parkland as a whole, you will not see any temporary shelters or umbrellas. There are some areas of sand under trees and lots of sunny and shaded areas on the grass close by.

Hi, are there lockers near the man made beach and swimming pools? I only ask as I’ll be travelling alone when I visit.

Hi! This is what I read about our Southbank:
Locker Hire
Lockers are available for temporary hire in Stanley Street Plaza, near Streets Beach. Hire fees are $4 for three hours and $8 for six hours. Please note that these lockers are for short term use only. Overnight storage is not permitted.
Hope this will help.

How accessible is the parklands (for a wheelchair)?

Very accessible, Ramps down to the market area and pool, and lifts up from the car park and up the the second story pubs and restaurants. The rest is all gently sloping paths. But it does get crowded

I need accommodation close to The Plough Inn. My husband uses a "Walker" due to limited agility. Any suggestions for somewhere close?

Rydges would be ideal. Get a room overlooking the river & the Southbank parklands. Enjoy your stay!!

Hi, Just making sure you would take us with our pet. He is a 3.7kg purebred minature fox terrier? He would stay in our van with us & of course go out with us too (being so tiny, he is safest with us)

Hi. I definitely agree with Shri D. Dogs are most certainly welcome in South Bank provided they are leashed and stay away from the beach and other oublic areas like showers, fountains etc.
there is plenty of space to walk around tho and great thing so ther are few places to get some waste bags from the dispensers free of charge. Usually when the markets are on it can be pretty busy but the parks are quite large so shouldn't be too much of an issue. My other recommendation is have a look at the Southbank website to see what may be happening as there are plenty of events from time to time. Hope that helps 😊
