    Moulin Rouge
I came to QPAC to see Moulin Rouge in the Lyric Theatre. It was an amazing, spectacular show. Getting to QPAC wasn’t too hard but bare in mind that there are roadworks going in so factor in about how you are getting here if you’re gonna see a show. The prices for food and drink is standard at $6 a glass. Cheaper to bring your own! The seats were comfortable but I do wish there was more room between the seats and the seats in front so you don’t constantly have to stand up every time someone wants to get by.
Thank you for your review. We were glad to hear that you enjoyed the performance and your visit to QPAC. Kind regards. The QPAC Team

    Great seats - great experience
Went to see Chicago - seats were still very good even though they were the cheapest ones. Wine service at interval was really quick and efficient. Service before the show was a little disorganised.

    WOW what a show.......
Went to see the production of Beauty and the Beast. What a brilliant show it was, we had pretty good seats 5 rows from the stage, the rest of the auditoria was just as good seats wise. The story was a near to the film version as made no difference, the choreography, music, cast, lighting and especially the special effects made the most spectacular impression. I adored the character 'chip', how that effect was acheived is a masterful mystery, the transformation of both the old beggar lady and the Beast in the opening act was amazing. Gaston was magnificent in his portrayal of a narcissistic bully, Lumiere was a shining ('scuse the pun) star in the entourage, Belle, Mrs Potts, Beast, Le Foye, Cogsworth, Babette, Maurice all played fantastically magical roles. So very glad to have seen this cast in this theatre, thank you all.

Past its used by date.

So disappointing. The much used QPAC is clearly in need of a makeover. Shabby, mismatched carpets, chipped paint work and toilet facilities clearly in need of an update.
The aforementioned together with trip hazards (Door 15 Balcony 1) and broken and or damaged seating (Seat 3 Row B - Balcony 1) clearly detract from the QPAC experience. The rundown condition of the building appears to have had a detrimental effect on staff as well. Some staff appear to have adopted a reverse entitlement attitude giving the impression that they are doing you a favour by simply doing their job.
My overall experience was most disappointing.

We visited QPAC to see Mama Mia in August with family and it was an amazing experience. When booking tickets, the staff were so helpful in choosing seats for us, as my grandaughter is currently using a wheelchair and crutches. When we arrived, our usher on door 12 was Harrison, and he was just so helpful and courteous.

The Lyric Theatre is best known for hosting major touring musical theatre productions & I’ve been coming since I was a kid (my first show was ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with Bert Newton, Nancye Hayes, Pamela Rabe & Tamsin West way back in the early 90s). Since then I’ve seen productions of Wicked, West Side Story, South Pacific & Dirty Dancing and watched Dame Edna come ‘Back With a Vengeance. Most recently I watched ‘Mary Poppins’ fly into the audience with her magic umbrella in late 2022 & in April 2023 saw the brilliant hip hop & rap musical ‘Hamilton’, managing to get one of the most sought after tickets a few rows back from the stage right in the middle (writer/composer & original star Lin Manuel Miranda even did a Q&A on stage here at the Lyric during the Brisbane run).

The Lyric is by far the largest theatre in QPAC seating 2,000 people & has city views from the riverside foyer. The theatre is constructed in a traditional horseshoe shape & the auditorium has stalls and two levels of balconies. It’s a beautiful theatre though I am not a fan of the single rows where you need to climb over people if you are in the middle.

I frequently attend this venue, and am always impressed with the professionalism and support of the staff! As to be expected there are always long queues for the bathroom and bar at interval and the end of the show.

A handy tip to find the best value tickets - sign up to QTIX and TICKETEK mailing lists for access to presale tickets, at much better value!

I got tickets for HAMILTON and MOULIN ROUGE each for under $80!

Also if you're ever running late or having an issue always call QPAC to try to speak to someone about rescheduling (13 62 46) - and email them if you can't get through to anyone! I had an issue and wasn't going to make the MANON showing, sent an email because I couldn't get through to anyone, they were able to rebook my ticket for another day at no extra cost!

I've always had excellent experiences with the staff - they're so friendly and helpful!

Room on the Broom

On Thursday 18 August, I attended Room on the Broom with my daughter and granddaughter. After just a couple of minutes, my daughter whispered to me, "It's terrible, isn't it?" I agreed. All the magic of the tale, the delightful rhymes, the rhythm of the narrative had been obliterated. The screeching, hyperactive adults who played the campers in the gratuitous opening and closing scenes, and also the characters and handlers in the play, added to the damage of the original, wonderful children's story. The lilt of the original verse was almost buried under the inferior prose of the new and unattractive narrative. The songs were unfamiliar, and did not invite participation. In fact, the paucity of audience involvement opportunities was astounding in a production aimed at very young children. What disappointed me the most was the insult to the abilities of truly talented writers who could have adapted Room on the Broom to the stage, and retained the magic of the original story. The production, and the sycophantic reviews it received from some media, are a sad indictment of the current state of the arts in Australia.

I went to the Opera last Thursday night. At interval, I wanted to get a bottle of water. I tried the vending machine several times and I found it difficult to use. A few days later I checked my credit card statement and yes I was charged $16.80 for one bottle of water. Yes, next time I will go to bar. Others watch out!!!

Attended 2 events during my visit to Brisbane, 9 to 5, entertaining and funny, then Li's Choice with the Queensland Ballet. Elite Syncopations blew me away. An unforgettable experience!
