- ItchyFeetCamarillo, California11,410 contributionsBotanical garden and lookoutWe drove up to the top of the summit and down the other side. We stopped and saw the botanical gardens that had several local Australian birds and lots of different sections to wander around and explore. Then we drove up to the top and saw the views of the city. There is also a planetarium that we didn’t see. Plan to spend most of a day if you want to explore the area. There are also numerous hikes to do if you have the time to do that.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 October 2023
- JElliot32New South Wales, Australia3,963 contributionsEasy (but satisfying) stroll if you want to walk itI had been to the lookout at summit of Mt Coot-Tha many times by car, so this time decided to walk to the top. Really, it was all too easy. Took the Summit Track from carpark at JC Slaughter Falls. It is less than 2 km to the top from there, and took about 35 minutes at a steady pace. The track is wide and mostly paved and drinking water fountains are available at regular intervals along the track. And then plenty cold drinks, ice cream etc when you reach the kiosk at the summit. Nothing spectacular to report, as you're walking through fairly nondescript eucalypt forest. Not unpleasant but not spectacular. Epic view over the city from the lookout of course, enhanced by the satisfaction of having walked up the track. Walk back to Slaughter carpark is straightforward.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 November 2023
- LindaHanc, France226 contributionsgoodThe Views from the lookout were excellent as the weather was clear. information map unfortunately damaged by sun so couldn't see names of places. Restaurant was good, not too expensive. They did get flavours of milkshakes wrong, but altogether good.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 January 2024
- JoanneLake Mary, Florida2,116 contributionsawesome viewsOur tour group stopped here for about 20 minutes - which is about all you need to take some awesome pictures. On a clear day you just have the best view of all of Brisbane. It is rather crowded with lots of people taking pictures and getting in the way, so you have to be patient for people to move out of your sight. There are decent bathrooms and a little cafe. The best part is that there is free wi fi here and all around the city.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 4 February 2024
- Angela HRochedale South, Australia5 contributionsEntire City - One ViewI recently had the pleasure of visiting the Mt Coot-tha Summit Lookout with my family, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The lookout offers breathtaking panoramic views of Brisbane that are not to be missed. It's the perfect backdrop for family photos and a serene spot to soak in the beauty of natureVisited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 April 2024
- Ellie Florence25 contributionsOutstanding natural beautyA beautiful area of natural beauty with opportunities to see the city of Brisbane from afar. We got the bus from Brisbane CBD to the Botanic Gardens which was around 30 mins and only $1 return with a go card. The walk between the botanic gardens and the lookout took around 50 minutes in the heat and has an incline on the way to the summit. Some level of fitness required and may be unsuitable for some as multiple sets of steps. The cafe was reasonably priced considering the location and ice cream was very well received after the walk in the heat! There are multiple walks around the summit and a bus that travels between the botanic gardens and lookout. I would definitely recommend for those looking for an escape from the city!Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 September 2024

There is nothing quite like being in a city for the first time, and finding a high viewpoint to look across the urban landscape. This is such a place, and I would highly recommend a visit. The views are spectacular, so you’ll need your camera. It is busy, but visitors don’t stay long, so it’s not overcrowded. There’s also a cafe, a small shop, and toilets! Enjoy...we did.

In just a 15 min drive by car or public bus you can reach Mount Coot-tha and enjoy beautiful views of the whole Brisbane area. The lookout, the Summit restaurant and Kuta cafe is a long time favourite for locals and visitors. Υou can spend a great time combining the Lookout with a visit to the spectacular Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens and the Planetarium.

This was our second visit to Mount Coot-Tha Summit Lookout & our first night time visit on Saturday 02/01/21. We arrived around 6:30pm & again we weren't disappointed with the fantastic night views with the city lights in the far distance.
Coffee Shop & gift shop were open.
We travelled in both direction from the CBD using Uber.

Today was our first visit to the cafe since the change of management. All our favourites had been taken off the menu and prices were more expensive than what we were used to. They also are not giving any seniors discount. Previous management gave a very generous 20% off which was greatly appreciated. I do hope that this will be reinstated. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Walked up to the lookout - JC Slaughter Falls & the Hoop Pine track (accidental detour) on the way up we’re challenging in the heat, but the views were worth it.
I cooled down at the cafe with a coffee and will definitely do this again.
You have to get there early to score a good park - I’d also recommend an early start because the heat was intense today (got up to 32 degrees).

Arrived at Mount Coot-Tha Summit Lookout on Saturday morning 11/07/20 by Uber from Brisbane CBD & arrived 10am.
At first the City Views weren't very clear due to low mist & cloud. However some interesting material to read about the history of the lookout location while waiting for the clouds to lift.
A small gift shop is available and cafe to relax & enjoy the views. After one hour the city views were much clearer & well worth the visit.
Defiantly worth a visit for all ages.
A complementary bus transfer from the lookout to Botanic Gardens.

Fantastic to look out over Brissie. Parking on weekends can be a bit problematic but there is a bus that goes right to the peak too. Cafe is under new management so can't comment on that as haven't eaten there.

Mt Coot-tha summit is a great place to take in the views across much of Brisbane and beyond. On a clear day one can see the sand dunes of Moreton Island. Whenever we have visitors to Brisbane, the summit is near the top of our list of places to visit.
At the summit is the Summit Cafe where one can purchase a range of drinks, ice creams and many delicious food items.
On this occasion I drove to the summit, where there is a reasonable amount of parking. As well as a bus route to the summit there are also some great walks leading up here.

Can I run or hike up to the lookout point?
Written 19 September 2017
Hi Atashin, lookout is at the summit where the restaurant is. Down below is the forest. You can park on the road between the summit and where the hiking trails start. There are hikers and cyclists on the track. If you are an experience runner may be you could run on the flat paths. There are a few inclines and some people do use walking poles. Hope this answers your question.

How near are the Mt coot tha gardens to the lookout point? Are they better than Sherwood arboretum or the botanic gardens?
Written 16 July 2017
The lookout is great for photo opportunities etc. but the botanic gardens are much nicer for the landscape. The gardens are only a few minutes drive from the lookout so you can easily do the look out, botanic gardens and planetarium in one day and get the best of all of it.

What transport options are there for travel from air port to mount coot tha on a Saturday?
Written 8 June 2017
Other than taxi/uber and private tour opertors I believe the only option would be a train to the city, then council bus number 471.
It could be just as easy to hire a car from the aiport? The only public transport option from aiport is the train.

Yes! I often take my Labrador up the trail as do many other dog walkers. Leashes are required.

what is the best way to get to mount cootha from sth bank
Written 7 March 2016
I drove there. Sorry I can't help with public transport.
Very pleasant drive and various delightful cafe's along the way or near the look out to make this a charming day. There are also picnic grounds nearby.
PS I don't recommend visiting in the summer months: Dec Jan and possibly Feb. Queensland heat and humidity is relentless in those months and hard on a Midwest traveler.
Even early in the morning or late in the day the humidity is unpleasant. Outdoor points of interest offer little protection and even most cafe's are outdoor so you can't escape to airconditioning.

If I take a bus from the city to the lookout, can I then walk to the Planetarium and Botanical Gardens?
Written 9 January 2016
There is also now a new walking trail from the summit lookout down to the mt cootha botanical gardens.
