I had booked a trip for my boss to attend which was then cancelled due to Covid. Due to the high number of cancellations, Paul needed extra time to fulfil the refunds owed. He kept me informed throughout the process, arranging for extra work to honour the refunds he had promised and ultimately paid the refund earlier than anticipated. While there are many great reviews about Kakadu 4WD's actual safaris, I would book again with Paul, simply because he is a genuine business owner who does as he says! I wish him all the very best, Leigh.

We did a 3 day/2 night tour with Genda in this stunning National Park last May. There's a lot to see and Genda knows the area really well so he tailors the trips to suit the conditions. We camped at the same spot both nights which cut down on travel times on the middle day so we could spend more time walking and swimming. The swimming holes at the bases of waterfalls are a welcome sight after an educational walk through the bush. The food was brilliant, cooked over the campfire and eaten by candlelight as the stars come out. The Didgeredoo lessons were good fun, make sure you get Genda to give a demonstration on his self crafted didg. I gained more of an understanding of the Aboriginal way of life on this tour than I did at any other stage in my 2 months in Australia.

Food plentiful and so fresh too - Darren is a great cook! Great guide with amazing knowledge of flora, fauna and local customs. He was also great with kids. Comfortable vehicle (we didnt have the troopy which was a bonus). Only criticism was that for a family with kids it probably would have been better to make this a 5 day trip and miss out on Litchfield (which is the least spectacular of all the places we visited) - that way the kids would have fared better.

Highly recommended!! What makes this small group tour unique and unforgettable is Darren the indigenous guide, who brings a wealth of lived knowledge about local culture, history, plants and animals, and a wicked sense of humour. He also cooks up a storm every night… a standout was the Creamy Mushroom Kangaroo Fettucine with an added smokiness from the fire. Traveling by air-conditioned FWD truck allows you to stay cool while getting you to the more remote sites in Kakadu National Park. The days are packed with many stops at beautiful waterholes and waterfalls, cultural experiences, guided walks of rock art and other sites, a crocodile boat cruise, many beautiful lookouts and views, an encounter with Arnhemland, a boat ride up magical Katherine Gorge, and you also meet some other wise and colourful local personalities who are proud to share their heritage and knowledge. Every night another glorious sunset in a different location. And when you least expect it, a platter of fruit and snacks magically appears. Camping under the stars is the best way to see this area, and though facilities are rustic, this is reflected in the reasonable price and you'll sleep comfortably every night. Unmissable experience overall.

Our 3d 4WD Adventure was everything we expected and whole lot more. It was a true authentic, culturally significant, adventurous, and exciting taste of the NT Top End.
As a parent there was no cooking, no shopping, no driving, no decision making, no responsibility - just get up, hop in the Troup Carrier and enjoy the days adventures with happy happy kids.
Our indigenous guide Darren 'made' the trip - 10/10. His authenticity, knowledge about the bush and his people, hilarious sense of humour and genuine care endeared a huge amount of respect from us all including 4 older teenage boys. Chasing and catching a snake, sampling bush tucker, jumping from high rocks into waterfalls, seeing huge crocs all made for a very memorable time. The days were long but we never 'rushed' - just soaked up the feel..... smell.... taste.... sights......culture...... respect....... of each location and day. Darren ensured all of the group aged from 15 to 70ish were catered for in very aspect. His attention to the safety of 4 teenage boys hell bent on a great time in a land full of croc infested billabongs was excellent. We fell into bed each night gazing up at the amazing clear starry nights after another campfire laugh-a-thon.
Would recommend to anyone. Instructions on what to take very accurate. Food great. Camping great fun. Made some great friends.

Excellent tour guide and a fun two day experience with a small group of four in a troop carrier. Our tour guide Darren was very helpful and knowledgeable and looked after us all very well. We thoroughly enjoyed the serenity as we watched the sunset from the top of the hill at Ubirr and the Aboriginal rock art was a privilege to see in reality. The rock pool swims (and bush picnic) on the second day were very welcome especially Moline rock pools which were something else-a magic spot where we enjoyed the cool off and water fall.

We joined Kakadu 4wd Safaris on a 3 day Kakadu tour and it was amazing! First off we had a pick up and drop off from our Darwin location even though it was all the way in Marrara, which is great (no other operators were willing to do this). We were lucky to have a great group of nine and a fantastic guide, Darren, the local owner. Huge plus that Darren is a real local with great knowledge, good humor and nice guy! Our transport was a comfortable and safe 4wd vehicle and our sleeping arrangements were very cool. We had a base camp with bbq, firepit nice tents with comfy beds and sleeping bags and great food (kangaroo bbq and other tasty stuff). Darren showed us all the nice and also very hard to reach places and we had a blast. Scenic hiking, beautiful drives, walks and swimming near waterfalls. Great local aboriginal and wildlife knowledge. Also got a chance to spot plenty of wildlife. Safe trip, great itinerary, nice food and fun company. Well done Darren, cheers! Recommend!

We have just had four fantastic days in Kakadu with Darren and Paul. We booked a small group tour for our family of 2 adults and 3 children. We were looked after from start to finish. The car was very comfortable. The camps are well set up and ready to go as you arrive so no wasting time putting up tents. The food was delicious, healthy and there was plenty of it. We saw some amazing places and the children all loved the different swimming spots for different reasons. Swimming at Koolpin gorge was truly spectacular. We enjoyed both Darren and Paul's company. They were good with the children, tolerating the questions and the occasional melt down. Their knowledge was impressive and we learnt a lot about a wide variety of things from insects to aboriginal culture.

3 fantastic days in a tent camp with Darren as our guide.
Darren is fantastic in explaining a lot of things you never read in the tourist guides, everything from the story of Aborigine people, the info about the trees and plant and it can be used.
Darren is also a great cook over fire in the camp, so now coming back we sometimes makes "Darren gourmet" food.
The trip included Ubirr rock, trip on East Alligator river and Arnhem land, Jim Jim Falls and Maguk and many more experiences
We should have also have visited Twinfalls but it was closed.
It was an experience for life without internet to enjoy Kakadu and fall a sleep into the brightest night with a million stars

Small group tours are the way to go!!! Did a Kakadu 4WD Safari tour in late April which was the highlight of my trip to the Top End. The van was comfy, the sights were breathtaking, and our guide Darren was friendly and helpful. We were lucky to have him as a guide. He was so knowledgeable guide who explained all the rock paintings to us. We noticed other group tours of 30 or more people that just skimmed past the paintings without much explanation. We took our time and got everything explained to us in detail. I learned so much from this trip including how to make kangaroo fettuccine!
Another highlight was visiting Gunlom Falls when no other group was there. It was absolutely breathtaking and I'll never forget it.
Highly recommend this tour and will be booking a longer one next time I'm back in the Northern Territory.

Hi, Thank you for your kind words regarding our tour and Darren. Our small group ethos is what sets us apart from most of the other tours along with our 'slow' touring approach.
Unfortunately everyone seems to be time poor these days and the quick rush around ticking places off a list style of touring has become too embedded as the 'norm'! Been there, done that, not for us. Look forward to seeing you back in the future, maybe on our 6 Day Top End next time or keep an eye out for our new Kakadu Extreme tour for next year! Regards

I recall seeing somewhere that duffel bags needed to be used instead of suitcases, but can't see that detail on the online packing list anymore. Does anyone know if that's the case or are suitcases ok?

Does anyone know of good 2 day Kakadu tours?
Written 5 June 2016
We did Wayoutback tours. We sat up with the driver and saw much more than others.
I think they did a pretty good job. It is what it is. Mostly backpackers in their 20s & 30s. I was a mother with an 11 yo. But it was a great way to see the animals. Make sure you go with one that does the croc cruise at 7 am or before.

Hi Mary, I haven't yet looked at the 4WD Kakadu Safari tours in great detail, do you camp overnight or do the tour operators take you back to your hotel? Did you see plenty of wildlife?
Thanks

Whilst we are in Kakadu, on our normal scheduled tours, we camp overnight at a camp-ground that has shower & toilet facilities. We provide the tents and mattress and can supply a sleeping bag if needed. Alternatively if you are not keen on camping, we can do a private charter using motel accommodation.
