We were so impressed with Gary’s knowledge, his passion and his personal service on this tour. We learnt so much that is never taught in schools about such an important part of Australian history and the shaping of our future defence of our nation. We learnt that 188 Japanese planes bombed Darwin! The same Japanese force had attacked Pearl Harbour 10 weeks before, but it dropped TWICE as many bombs on poor Darwin than they did on Hawaii.

This walking tour was fabulous from start to end and our guide John sure knew his stuff. We learned all about the bombings as well as all about the heritage buildings that survived it and the cyclone. We also visited the Houses of Parliament which was also very interesting. I have no hesitation in recommending this tour.

Garry's tour is an absolute delight from the time he picks you up to the time he lets you off at your hotel. His knowledge for this event shines through and he does have a real personal connection to this major historical event, why the NT university hasn't snapped him up beats me. Sorry but if you are expecting the standard party line tour of this event you are well out of luck, Gary's tour is funny, serious and a little cheeky that makes learning all the more fun. As an old war horse I would highly recommend spending a few hours with the legend that is Gary.

This was a very well conducted tour with an engaging host and lots of intriguing information. It gave a fresh perspective to the events that define Darwin’s history including, as an aside, the 1974 Cyclone that also devastated Darwin. What a resilient community this is.
