Hard work trying to land Barra but that’s fishing!

Flo is a Great bloke and a great guide which he made the best out of such tough day with the Barra being stubborn to chew on our lures!

Highly recommended!

Not what i was expecting from the full 5 star reviews i see here. not sure why we were not part of the groups that had great fishing trips. Definitely not one for tourists.
Fishing was none existent, but i can understand that (thats why its called fishing, not catching), what i could not wrap my head around was the seemingly weird rule that we could only take 5kg of fish for 4 days of fishing. By no means were we expecting to abuse the catching Limits, but part of the allure was to bring back some great eating fish for friends and family. We met many another groups that had plenty of fish and enquired on their limits which makes no sense.

We were lucky to have the trip cut short and not have to deal with a ridiculous limit. Ended up spending the next 3days NOT fishing at all after flying 5hrs + 2.5hrs on the road. (Not fun at all).

I feel better information and transparency should be provided. And charters should have to equip themselves with correct information and a skill set to communicate better, so customers might actually have a choice.

My family and I had high hopes for a memorable fishing trip at Point Stuart Resort, but unfortunately, our experience was marred by deceitful behavior from the service provider.

Upon arrival, we were given 4 X 5kg boxes and paid a deposit of A$6,300. The remaining balance of A$5,100 was to be settled during the trip. However, on the second day, during breakfast, the service provider insisted on cash payment, claiming it would avoid VAT. This turned out to be false as we later discovered that all charter rates were already inclusive of VAT.

He then threatened us that we did not pay right away he would not take us fishing and furthermore he had restricted us to only 5kg per person when the law states that each fishers is allowed to have 3pieces of barra with us at anytime(found this out by talking to other fisherman staying at the camp). We were unhappy that he had restricted us to 5kg of barra per person because one barra would be around 10kg so it does not make sense that we had book a 4 day fishing trip just to catch two barra.

Despite this setback, we managed to salvage our trip by engaging in tourist activities for the remaining days. We also purchased fish fillets from other sources to disprove the service provider's claims about airport regulations, which turned out to be unfounded.

In conclusion, our fishing trip at Point Stuart Resort did not meet our expectations due to the untrustworthy behavior of the service provider. We were left feeling disappointed and would caution others to be wary when dealing with this individual.

Dear David Lee and Family, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent fishing trip with us. We are deeply disappointed to hear about your dissatisfaction with your experience, and we'd like to address your concerns. Firstly, we understand your desire to bring back fish fillets to Singapore for your friends and family. But 200kg like show on your picture is not considered as for personal use anymore but for resell in your restaurant in Singapore on Sentosa waterfront. However, as you discovered through your research on Singapore's import laws and regulations, there are strict limitations on the quantity of frozen fish fillets that can be brought into the country. See as below link, under food restriction, Seafood quantity, list on sfa.gov.sg. (https://www.sfa.gov.sg/food-import-export/bringing-food-for-personal-use). Additionally, our capacity and freezer limitations also restrict the amount of fish that can be stored and transported during the trip. We can provide all the messages on WhatsApp that we tried to communicate with you prior to the tour, which you have read and responded to. Regarding the payment arrangement, our terms and conditions clearly state that 50% of the total cost is required upfront, with the remaining balance due eight days before the trip. (This has listed on our website Terms and Condition page). We agreed to your request to pay the remaining amount during pick-up at the airport to accommodate your preference and avoid bank card fees. However, it is essential to uphold commitments, and we expected the remaining payment to be made as agreed upon. Unfortunately, when the remaining amount was not paid as agreed upon, we were left with no choice but to inform you that the trip would be canceled if payment was not received immediately. We operate with integrity and transparency and cannot compromise on our terms and conditions. We must emphasize that our business is not intended for commercial fish resale but rather for recreational purposes, with a focus on catch and release for protected and controlled species. The area where we conduct our fishing trips is a national park with strict regulations on the quantity and size of fish that can be kept. We regret any misunderstanding or inconvenience caused, but we stand by our decision to adhere to legal and ethical practices. Threatening to post negative reviews as leverage for personal gain is not constructive and goes against the spirit of fair and honest feedback. We hope this clarifies the situation, and we remain committed to providing enjoyable and responsible fishing experiences for our customers. Sincerely, Floran | Barra Private Tours

My family visited Darwin in June 2023 and booked Barra Private Tours for a half-day fishing trip in the harbour. It was a decent experience, and we decided to engage Flo again for our recent trip in March 2024 with a 4 day fishing trip in Shady Camp. There was much ambiguity about how much fish we could take home from the trip, despite having communicated our wish to bring back as much fish to Singapore as legally possible. We did not appreciate feeling misled and decided to cut the trip short, feeling frustrated that the time and money we had invested in this trip was wasted.

Flo charged me- A$11,400 for 4- Myself, son, daughter & grandson for 4 full day Barra/ Reed fishing base at Point Stuart Resort, Shady camp. On arrival gave us each a 5kg box- saying that’s our limit for 4 full days fishing. Anything more will be taken away at the airport. Lie. I paid him A$6,300 deposit. 2nd morning, he insisted I pay him balance A$5,100 cash or he won’t take us out fishing. I said I will transfer. He wants cash, No invoices was given to me for the A$6,300. So I agreed not to continue our trip. We hitch hiked back to Darwin- 220km.

Had an amazing day with Flo. He provided a lot of coaching and support to help me land my first Barra (best for the day 103cm). Excellent local knowledge, great gear, fantastic boat with plenty of room. Thanks for the day.

I had an amazing time on a Barra Private Tour with Skipper Floran in the Top End of Darwin. The fishing experience was top-notch, and Skipper Floran's expertise and knowledge made the trip even more enjoyable. We caught some impressive Barramundi and had a fantastic day out on the water. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience the best of Barra fishing in the Top End.
