Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A colleague ad I carried out the original fauna surveys of Mantom Dam in the 1980s and we spotted what appeared to be estuarine crocodiles in the pools left after the dam had been drained. However, their presence was not acknowledged for years. I advise against swimming.

We stopped here quickly and there was not a single person around. We went to the edge of the boat ramp and heard a very strange sound and something moving in the mangrove area, it was definitely a croc! There was heaps of parking, picnic tables and toilets. Just be warned with the crocs!

Decent spot to go and have a look or ski if you have your boat with you. Not too far away from Darwin down the Stuart Highway

Manton used to provide all the water for Darwin. The water pipes run into Darwin alongside the highway. The walk up to the dam wall is really interesing but remember there are crocs in all waters here in the NT and the ones here have a good supply of barra to feed on. Loads of history here. We took a picnic lunch which we enjoyed closer to the highway in a parking area. There is the old pump house, old cars/trucks; maps of the local area. Lots to read and learn from.

I love this place, so quiet, so beautiful, so lack of other people. If i lived in Darwin one of the first things I'd do is buy a small boat and fish in this beautiful body of water.

Might be one of those places to stop and have a leg stretcher If you pass by for some reason. Croc sign here as everywhere else in NT, but was great for a walk down to the water..

Ok, rented a kayak, figured for a great day of paddling, walking, and getting to know the history of the area. - the view from shore- sadly to much underbrush to see much the place does not appear to be kept up. The paddle was great - ( 4 hrs.) and only one motor boat on the lake.
next to the dam itself -lots of buildings to explore -however, all padlocked up - looking in the windows could see lots of info posted on walls (pump house etc.) but couldn't get in to read it. Outside points of interest signs - no info - bleached out by sun and rain - paths - no maintenance -the engines on display (again locked up) covered in dust and spider webs - sadly what could have been a great tourist attraction appears to be left to a mention in the history books

Visited Manton dam recreational area as I heard it was good for a picnic & swim. I agreed it's a nice picnic location, but doubt for a swim as its not safe enough. There was a tiny piece of paper hang outside the gate of dam indicating there was a Saltie croc. Not the best way to give caution sign.

If you want to take some beautiful Photography this is the place to be. It's a nice place to relax! There is a lot of Birdlife happening. It's a nice place to have a BBQ but you have to bring everything your self as there is no Shops there.
