About
The Araluen Arts Centre is in the heart of the 17-hectare Araluen Cultural Precinct which is home to some of the most significant artistic, cultural and historical experiences in Mparntwe. Yaye's cafe is the culinary heart of the precinct and boasts great coffee and amazing meals. The precinct also has an Aviation Museum, the Museum of Central Australia and Central Craft. Visitors can easily spend several hours on the precinct if you take in all that we have on offer! The Araluen Arts Centre provides a unique visitor experience, and we always have some of our original Albert Namatjira watercolours on display. In our four galleries we host major touring exhibitions and wonderful exhibitions from our extensive collection. The Araluen Art Centre's 500 seat theatre presents an exciting annual program of theatre and has hosted an amazing array of world class performances. We also screen the best art house films we can find every Monday evening at 7.00pm (excl public holidays).

Araluen Arts Precint includes art galleries, museum of central australia, central craft, yayes cafe and aviation museum. The art galleries were amazing which were an insight into indigenous art including some artwork from Albert Namatjira. The staff were very friendly and helpful. $6 entry fee for non-territorians which was well worth it.
The museum of central australia was a small museum which also was a $6 entry fee which sadly for me was not worth it. I even suggested that they have a combo entry fee of $10 for both the museum and the art galleries! The cafe was very busy even during the summer season.
The aviation museum was closed during my visit unfortunately. I visited the alice springs cemetery which was next door which has notable locals interred including Albert Namatjira.
Overall a good experience particularly the art galleries.

Small gallery but packed full of fascinating work. I was lucky enough to see the Desert Mob 2022 exhibition - a fabulous display of indigenous art from a range of arts centres, all of which was for sale. There's also a beautiful collection of the work of Albert Namatjira and his extended family.
It's a little out of the centre of town but absolutely worth the visit.

It’s about 2 km from Town center , on Larapinta drive ; during hot , dry windy, strong sunlights, you can walk there with hat/ umbrella and, yes, sunscreen. Compact and interesting art exhibition at the main buiding , it’s free admission during my visit , there is place to see fine arts by locals who created their works depicting landscapes of red center, there are also indigenous pieces from local aborigines. Inside the building, there is modern art gallery and theatre which changes theme of performances.

Didn’t know what to expect but paid our $9 each to mooch around the several galleries inside before heading outside to visit the other locations.
Popped into the craft centre to accidentally join an ‘opening event’ which was good but alas the Museum of Central Australia was closed.
My only critique would be they are all formed under one site so sharing the opening times would help people plan!

I spent the afternoon at the Araluen Arts Centre. There is lots to see here. The main exhibit in the art gallery was "Desert Mob". These are works by the local Aboriginal artists. Another exhibit was the Alice Springs Quilting Club's 2023 exhibition. Upon entry, we were given a slip of paper to vote for our favourite. There is a theatre and several interesting artworks. In other buildings, you can see crafts. You can walk a short distance to the Museum of Central Australia and the Central Australia Aviation Museum.

Thank you for the good feedback.
Desert Mob is now closed and we have two new lovely collection exhibitions open now. One is a retrospective of the Alice Prize and the other includes twelve of our Albert Namatjira landscapes. We are also opening a new exhibition this Friday by Claire Freer this Friday at 6.00pm.

We went to visit the art gallery that was showing a wonderful exhibition of Aboriginal art called "Desert Mobs". 15 art groups from remote art centres were exposing the best of their works. The place also has a pottery and craft centre for local people. And we discovered there was a piano recital on the night by an American virtuoso and we came back to hear his performance.

I love this place ... my favourite painting is on the left as you go in. Particularly loved the video of the aboriginal women who make weaved animals and objects and someone has made an animated video story from them... brilliant! and so funny! Also loved the giant caterpillar outside and the black and white photos in the museum next door.

We were disappointed we didnt go earlier as the gallery has a theatre that has acts on almost every night.
The gallery had many paintings by Albert Namatjira and his family. The staff were very kind and helpful, we enjoyed a great ice coffee at the cafe.

A gorgeous & very beautiful curated art gallery, filled with some absolutely stunning pieces of aboriginal art work! Not a huge gallery would love to see it grow to accommodate more of the amazing talent in the region. There is a lovely little craft shop selling the most beautiful handmade gifts & paintings. A cafe on site. We went back for the famous beanie festival but this is so popular and the line to enter went for far to long for us to wait when we had a plane to catch. So we hung out with the kids at the wonderful park and play equipment on the grounds.

Hi Sylvia,
It costs $10 for seniors to access the Araluen Cultural Precinct. This includes the Araluen Arts Centre Galleries, the Museum of Central Australia and the Central Australian Aviation Museum.
