With our adult daughter we had the most amazing four days/three nights with John on our short expedition going the 'long way' from Yulara/Uluru to Alice Springs. Communication with John prior to our arrival in the Red Centre in arranging dates to suit us, his proposal of an itinerary, and answering our questions as novices to outback travel was great. He also very willingly incorporated a couple of places and activities that we particularly wanted. John is extremely experienced in the territory and has a deep knowledge of its flora and fauna and the indigenous culture. This is backed up by what he has brought to ASE from earlier roles as well as his wonderful personality plus skill as a chef and genial host. The expedition vehicle was very well suited to the at times rough terrain making travel very comfortable, and the way his trailer was kitted out was impressive and quite an eye-opener to us. As is to be expected the cost of a bespoke (and all inclusive) expedition like this was greater than the three of us tourists being part of a coach group tour. However if your travel budget can be stretched just a little then time with John and his Alice Springs Expeditions is certainly the way to see the significant sights of the Red Centre and to really experience something of the solitude and vastness of the Northern Territory. Thank you again John for the fabulous time you gave us - it is greatly appreciated.

I have adventured with John & Ceidleigh on 2 trips to the Macdonnell Ranges in 2022 and 2023 and it is the best possible way to camp in the outback! I slept in both swag and tent, each had the cosiest beds with thoughtful little extras.
John’s trailer is the ultimate ‘swiss army knife’ of trailers where gourmet hot meals are cooked, warm showers are had or you can get a cappuccino that is worthy of the best city café.
I travelled with a group of artists and it was the most amazing camping retreat because all that we had to think about each day was exploring the incredible landscape at our own pace. Itinerary was customised and flexible day to day guided by John’s expert and passionate knowledge of the region. And the glorious daily adventure always ended around the campfire with sweet treats and sharing of stories.
Thank you John & Ceidleigh!
Can’t wait to return.

We had a most extraordinary trip with John: four amazing days touring the outback region of the Finke River and Kings Canyon via mostly 4WD roads, hiking, camping in swags, viewing expansive night skies and diverse wildlife, and eating wonderful meals. John’s detailed knowledge of the plants, animals, geology, culture, and history of the area was exactly what we hoped for. I’d recommend an outback tour with John to anyone who loves the outdoors and wishes to see the real and raw backcountry of Central Australia.

John and Ceidleigh's attention to detail, from comfy swags to delicious wholesome meals and even desert showers, ensured a comfortable adventure in the West MacDonnell ranges (Tjoritja). They brought an incredible sense of humour to our journey, and there was never a dull moment around the campfire. John shared his knowledge and deep connection to the Central Desert landscape and made this trip truly unforgettable. We are a group of artists who were able to focus on our creative work and not have to worry about anything else.

John’s knowledge of the Outback, its nature and its people, is outstanding. His many years working for the government to support and develop Aboriginal tourism is reflected in his knowledge, sensitivity, respect for and by, and long term relationships with Aboriginal people. Through him, I felt like I had the opportunity to walk into a world which is often closed, for good reason.
The hiking, birds, plants and history were all terrific. The most special time for me in was a night we spent along a river in a canyon on private freehold land. We slept in swags which, at first, I thought were just too weird. I was so wrong. They fit perfectly into the sandy river beds in red rock gorges. They are screened and, with the outer flaps open, you can lie on the soft sand and watch the sky all night. They have flannel liners in the sleeping bag. I would tuck myself in and watch the night sky, feeling warm and secure. And mesmerized by the stars.
I wish our entire trip could have been in this one beautiful gorge. But then we would have missed Palm Valley, Kings Canyon and so much more.
It is luxe camping. There is a trailer with toilets and showers. Ceidleigh’s cooking is amazing. Espresso in the morning. Multi layered salads at lunch. There were always snacks and fresh fruit. Dinners were delicious, far better than any restaurants in the area. Think grilled fish or lamb chops with fresh vegetables.
At the end of the trip was Uluru at sunset drinking wine, at sunrise with fresh coffee, and with a private guided walk with an Aboriginal artist after her painting class.
If you want to explore the many and varied dimensions of the Outback, you will find no better team than John and Ceidleigh.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our day with John as everything about this tour is just First Class. It was a wise choice by us to select Alice Springs Expeditions as John is a man who has a wealth of knowledge about local and State tourism and the experience to impart this knowledge to all who participate. The vehicle, the catering and of course the awesome scenery of the Finke, Palm Valley and Gosses Bluff Crater all combined to make it an extremely memorable day.
We can't recommend John highly enough; it wouldn't matter if it was this tour or any other that is on the offering, you won't regret it as John is very customer focused and truly delivers.
With much appreciation - Paul and Raylee

We have just spent two of the most incredible days with John. He was caring and attentive to all our needs, including my dietary requirements with two delicious lunches and morning teas. John chose exquisite sites to have our rest breaks and pointed out all manner of unexpected sights. Nothing was too much trouble and he took our suggested itinerary and made it so much better with places included that we had never thought of. The four wheel driving experience was one of the highlights but as well, there were so many beautiful and interesting places that he took us to along and around the East and West Mac Donnell ranges. We highly recommend you contact John to discuss your stay in central Australia.

We were picked up on time by our host John at 8am. His vehicle a Range Rover was extremely comfortable. To John’s credit he reviewed the program based on our ability and adapted along the way. Initially it was on bitumen and then we turned off to the Finke River. John explained in detail the mountain ranges and the creeks/rivers through the land. The track soon became 4-wheel drive, and the vehicle took the corrugated and rock climbs in comfort. We stopped for morning tea at a lovely site and looked down to the riverbed with the birds in the trees above us, we could have stayed here all day. We drove on going past the Cycad Valley, to return later. After a few more rock crossing we got to Palm Valley. John & I did the rim walk, my wife did the riverbed walk. Wow what an amazing view and my wife didn’t miss out. We met at the end of the walk and came back together. John pointed out the local vegetation e.g., native orange, native Holly, and native fig. Once we got back to the car park, we moved to Cycad Valley for lunch. Lunch was to an amazing standard – we didn’t go hungry. We were sitting in the shade of a Eucalypt looking across the valley at the cycads and budgies doing there thing in the tree above. We then returned to Hermannsburg, with the history explained along the way. Apple strudel was amazing with a cup of tea. It was a fantastic day

John and Ceidleigh provided us an outstanding day in the Red Centre, with the gorgeous Palm Valley as our highlight. With major renovations on-going in Hermannsburg, John took the time to discuss the fascinating history or the area. A building made entirely out of flattened steel drums, check! Palms only seen in this area of Australia, check! A place off the highway where 20 or so odd prams were left for whatever reason, check! He skillfully took us down sandy river beds, and across some tracks where you had to have 4x4 driving experience, all in the comfort of an A/C Land Rover. The included lunch was well made and even healthy and he caters to dietary requirements. Excellent value, we're very glad we did this, a great way to support a local business too!

Hi! My husband and I , both seniors, will be in Alice Spring on February 26,2020. Would like to hire a private guide to take us around the Alice Spring local sights and learn and see the culture and history for a full day tour. Staying at Crowne Plaza the night before. Thank you. Dottie Pinto
Written 1 August 2019
Hi Dottie. I would be more than happy to assist. Being a private charter you would have total flexibility. The cost for a day tour including lunch at a really nice local cafe would be AUD$720 including all taxes. Please feel free to contact me via the email on my website.
Kind regards - John

Hi Debbie. Yes, I do. It is popular for travellers to fly in to Alice and tour to Uluru or vice versa to see the best of Central Australia. Happy to help with any questions you may have. John
