Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We set out to the theatre not realising the restaurant was right there along with a charming pub. Parking easy in the street. Next time we will go 2 or 3 hours earlier and really make a night of it. Old world charm, great menu and very intimate theatre - the Old Fitz is a delight!

We went to the Old Fitz to see a performance of Oscar Wilde's "De Profundis" and we had dinner in the pub beforehand. We were delighted to find the atmosphere in the pub was a little bit like an English pub, and the food was good... ordinary in a pleasant sort of way, with no pretence at being anything other than simple. The street the pub is in has lots of street parking in the evenings, and is quiet, with a few tables outside and a few inside. Almost Parisian? Well, sort of, in an Aussie way. We will definitely be back there again.... we loved it.

We heard they had a new chef so went to try - it was excellent. Very rustic pub food but amazing flavours and unique offerings.
The Dripping bread and Scotch Eggs were the highlight but a daily special of pork rump was also amazing.

My friends and i had booked tickets to see a play on at the Hotel's theatre. The show starts at 815pm and the door opens at 805pm. We ordered food at 710pm and by 740pm it had still not arrived - we asked and was told it would be with us soon. By 750pm we still did not have it - we asked at the kitchen and was spoken quite rudely by kitchen staff. The food finally arrived at 755pm and we were given the wrong order! This was an order for 3 steaks by the way. Scoffed the food as quickly as possible so we could get to the theatre which, upon arrival, there were no seats. Told that it was sold out and we could sit on cushions on the stairs. Thankfully the play itself was great.
I complained to one of the serving staff during all this and he did apologise but albeit begrudgingly. I wont be going back here. The venue appears to be run by professional students who have a general disdain for the public.

Dropped in to see a play last night - never been in a pub in Sydney where the staff are as friendly and helpful as this one. Food was great, delicious in fact, atmosphere was charming and the clientele friendly and chatty. It was great to have a banter with an array of strangers that also made you feel safe and welcome.

Accidentally walked by it in the afternoon. Decided to stop by as afternoon transitioned into evening. A very cool place to sit on the sidewalk and have a beer. Friendly and helpful staff and a decent menu of pub food choices.

Sydney has been so gentrified with so much outer polish these days, that you don't come across genuine little places like this pub much anymore. I can't believe that I hadn't found it earlier! Firstly, you can stand outside and have a schooner on the street - which you can do everywhere in London of course, but I can only think of 4-5 other pubs in Sydney where you can do it. There is no pretension here at all - it is just you, the beer and the company you're with. There is plenty of personality and colour around you - and the food (we all had the steak!!!) was really good!

Just come for a drink!

Thank you.

Home to some of Sydney's best independent theatre. Drop in any time and you're guaranteed a good night of theatre, likely catching some of Sydney's best actors and creatives doing an indy show between main-stage gigs. Sit in an audience of theatre makers and theatre lovers and hang out in the bar afterwards for a drink. It's a small space and very chilled - the venue is known for selling to capacity and seating people on the stairs, but it all just adds to the vibe. Book ahead to secure tickets and join the line at the door early to get an actual seat if that's what you fancy.

Loved the theatre and the show. Great intimate space to see some of Sydney's up and coming talent. Perfect night out followed by a few drinks.

Old hotel, good food but gets busy. Has some great live shows. Went there on a Sunday night and it was packed, most people there for the live show.
