The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Surry Hills
Once regarded as the traditional fashion area, Surry Hills has broadened its appeal. This neighbourhood continues to distinguish itself as a shopping destination, offering the best collection of one-of-a-kind boutiques, designer brands and flagship stores in the city. Today, this area has evolved into a hub of media, design and professional services - a colourful and diverse place equally known for its antique dealers, art galleries, cafes and pubs. Strolling down the street on a Saturday morning, you’ll see a mix of students, artists, hipsters and a few all-nighters from Oxford Street, the “Gay Capital of Sydney”. In this vibrant neighbourhood you will find bohemian chic and modern style co-existing side by side.

Stroll on Crown and enjoy the ambience
Sep. 2018
We went to Surrey Hills to have brekky at Bills (separate review) and enjoyed a leisurely walk along from Oxford Street end, exploring the shops and admiring the buildings along the way. For me, many of the shops were more up market than I expected, as the old second hand shops have given way to upcycled wares and carefully curated specialist vintage shops which aren't quite my thing or my price point. However it was fun to explore, and I did find a Salvos along the way where I scored some excellent value DVDs, books and clothes.

Heart of Surry Hills

Keep walking past Oxford Street and you will find yourself in the heart of the charming Surry Hills neighborhood. Lots of great restaurants, pubs, and cafes, plus some community centers.

Some Old, Some New And A Little Quirky
Feb. 2019 • Couples
Crown Street runs through Surry Hills from Oxford Street ( a little tacky) to Cleveland Street. It has many small restaurants and coffee shops and old and new buildings and a few characters thrown in.Worth a stroll to see the sights.

A good option to the CBD
Jun. 2018 • Couples
Much more life and character than the business style of the CBD, it does though change its perspective block to block.
There are blocks around Cleveland and Devonshire Streets and the Clock hotel where buildings have become modernised and rejuvenated whereas other sections around Oxford and Goulburn still have a grunge factor and more alternative.
It's a fun street with abundant restaurants , cafes and shops where you will never get bored.

Bills
Jan. 2018 • Couples
For me, the best part of Crown St is south of Oxford St. An abundance of restaurants, pubs, cafe's, specialist clothing and homewares stores. It's Bills for breakfast though. If you get there you'll know what im talking about. Hudson's butchery across the road for the best T-Bone steaks in NSW.
Tip: Don't walk alone at night. Heaps of homeless and usually high on Meth. Will confront you. Robbery is common for those who choose to go it alone.

A long st with an ever changing demographic
May 2017 • Couples
Starting at Woolloomooloo and finishing at Surrey Hills, we find this street nice for a long wall, as it is ever changing, with trendy cafes and eateries, the main concentration is at Surry Hills, however for something different the whole street is worth an explore.

Variety, contrasts
Aug. 2016 • Solo
Crown Street is in the inner-eastern suburbs of Sydney. At its Woolloomooloo end it meets the Cahill Expressway Exit near the Art Gallery of NSW. It runs through Darlinghurst and Surry Hills. And it ends when it meets Cleveland Street near Redfern. These areas used to be notoriously poor and tough but these days are fairly gentrified and offer startling contrasts between the upmarket high-tech and the older 'struggle street' way of life.
You could walk the length of the street, although I don't know anyone who has done that. The Surry Hills stretch is the most popular part with people who like markets, eateries and fashionable alternative shopping.
Various bus routes cross Crown Street or run along parts of it, so it is not difficult to get to on public transport. Car parking is not easy.
