Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Called in for lunch. Menu was extensive, food was good, coffee and beer was good. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We came here for a quick lunch before a local show.

Range of food and quality was good. Kids enjoyed their fish & chips.

Was pretty quiet for a Sunday. Not a bad thing with young kids!

We had our work Melbourne Cup lunch here. The food was really good - cold meat and salmon platters for entrees, steak or fish for mains. The service was good and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. A really enjoyable lunch.

I've eaten here a few times on a Monday night in recent months and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. On Mondays they do burgers for only $10, and I love that they have a bowl of steamed green vegetables, and a dish of mixed olives, for only $8 each - if only more Sydney pubs offered such (healthy) value! You can also play pub trivia on a Monday night if that's your thing. I'll be back.

The food for a pub is always at a good standard but the staff stand over you waiting for you to take the last mouthful and whisk you plate away as the fork hits the plate. Understand if we are there for dinner and a chat don't make us feel rushed. Same goes with the drinks! If we put it down it doesn't necessarily mean its finished !
Food? Bangers and mash with lamb and rosenary sausages good winter fare, rump is always good and cooked as you like it and the crispy skin salmon again another great dish.

The Grand National in Paddington is in a perfect location. Just at the back of Oxford street, 10 minutes walk into the city. I have walked past many times but never stopped by. Hopes were here high, unfortunately impressions were not. The first things that hit you are the antibacterial smell and the drab green decor. The beers are limited and the food is that of an RSL in woop woop. So much potential with location and the building. This seems like such a waste. Food looked nice although we didn't order any. The smell is really quite off putting. Appears dog friendly which is never a bad thing. Struggling for positives after that. Shame

I've been coming here since at least 2005 as a good local place for a Sunday dinner with friends.
It is one of those old Sydney pubs that everyone can get to and serves decent lunch and dinner.
We came back after a couple of years absence. It has been given a little facelift without detracting from the original pub feel. The refurbished loos were great - so much better than the single, run down much queued-for toilet and the staff are also friendly. Now that it's a dog friendly pub there were a couple of dogs in there on Sunday and they were very well behaved.

This is a great pub and could be excellent but we felt the food options, although good standard pub fare, just didn't match the old menu in terms of choice and quality. The high stool seating wasn't great for us older patrons - they get very uncomfortable after a while and the booths are always taken.

However, we will be back - it does have a very relaxed, laid back vibe - the type of pub that you could sit in all day and red the papers (if the seating was more comfortable)

Some of the portion sizes are quite large - I shared the chicken schnitzel with a friend and it was more than enough for the two of us with a couple of sides

Cosy and intimate, with terrific food. loved the hollandaise sauce and that the restaurant wasn't too noisy.
