The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.

It is a little tricky to find but we followed the directions from others reviews and found it. Got there early on a Saturday, just after 4pm when they opened and was so glad we did. We took a seat at the bar and the very friendly and knowledgeable staff took their time to talk my fiancé through the different whiskeys he was interested in. I asked for a sweet cocktail and was served a delicious honeycomb one. Highly recommend you check this out. But get there early if you can. And sit at the bar, where you can watch the staff in action.

Great selection of whiskeys, go myself my first Australian whiskey for 15 something dollars, worth every cent.
The place is really nice too- only a little hard to find, located behind the buildings.

On a trip to Sydney and my friend told me this was an institution.

Off we went and he takes me down a dark dingy alley; I’m wondering where am I going. We enter a small court yard and there are two pubs in front of us to the left and right. These are not the establishments. We turn right and there is an entrance in the corner with steps leading down to a basement.

Well we enter and behind the door is the most amazing place. Not sure how many different type of whisky fro. Around the world but would guess over 300.

Atmosphere amazing. Service superb. Whisky choices to die for. Will I come back when I visit Sydney again? Does the sun rise every morning?

A fantastic evening and I would recommend anyone to visit this hidden/speakeasy bar even if you’re not a great whisky drinker an experience not to be missed.

If we hadn't been told by a Aussie in Canada about this place we would never have found it and it was the best bar experience in Australia ever - the greatest place and the friendliest staff I have met in ages, what great people and what a great place. Very hidden though and it sure gives a speakeasy impression i.e. hard to find. Can't wait to go back when in Sydney next time.

Such a cool little hang out - very hard to find which is part of the charm. Hundreds of Whiskeys on offer as well as beers, wines and cocktails. Absolute must if visiting Sydney but be warned - the prices are crazy high! Worth it for the experience though - highly recommend the Smoke signature cocktail. One of the best cocktails I've ever had!

If you don't hear about this place by word of mouth then it's highly unlikely you would ever find it as there is no signage and the route to the main door sees you heading into what looks like a basement boiler room, but once you open that door it all changes.
What a bar, whiskey predominantly. It's a secluded, cool place and once you go through that door you lose all connection with the outside world. The atmosphere is terrific, the music appropriate and the whiskey selection is great. Plenty to choose from. I visited for the first time at the beginning of May and have told lots of friends and colleagues about the bar and many have already visited on the back of my recommendation. If you are in Sydney and want a chilled out place that is a bit different for an evening nightcap then try and find this place......and I do mean try :-)

As a once only visit venue this is a must see, down an alley, around a corner and behind a door is a dodgy staircase to an amazing underground bar! Staff know their stuff, strut the bar and climb the stairs for your unique whisky or gin. Great tunes, ambience and a line after 9 to get in! Thankfully my mate was celebrating a promotion as $76 for two whiskies on ice out of my league!

Great hidden bar tucked away in alleyway of Sydney CBD. Huge variety of drinks on offer. Full and very lively for a Tuesday night. We googled how to get there but no sign to the bar. Went to down the alley and found The Duke of Clarence and what we thought was The Baxter Inn but discovered after we ordered it was a different cocktail bar. Saw a security guard stand by what looked like a fire escape door and found this was the entrance to The Baxter Inn. Once inside the hard decision came of what to order. The wall is filled with whiskey bottles. Friendly staff. If you are in Sydney and want a trendy bar, you must go here!

Googled and found this place. Entrance is through a lane way where u are confronted with a cocktail bar on your left and an English pub on your right. We went to the bar, but it wasn’t the right place, we were so confused so we had a drink here. We saw a queue opp the pub and we asked and found that this was The Baxter inn. So down a few cement steps, open the metal door, and u are hit with the music and wow, what a hidden gem. It was packed late on a Tuesday night. Great loud music, free pretzels, lots of different whisky and cocktails and wines and it was just awesome place. A dark cave filled with fun people. And a great choice of drinks. Make sure u go at least once. We had a ball.

I am a bit of a sucker for these bars after having been to Sneaky Tonys in Chinatown in Northbridge Perth. SO I tried this place and certainly wasn’t disappointed, On this night it was busy and the music was playing and a crowd was there so it was pretty good. I set myself up at the bar and proceeded to drink Ol Fashioned’s and watch the show as the bar persons entertained everyone with their banter and the way they made al of the different types of drinks. There was about 9 bar persons and a couple of support staff filing up glasses and ice etc... Had a great night and the service was great with complimentary pretzels served up as well. Definitely a worthwhile place to go and visit. Plus there is another bar directly opposite to try as well with a sightly different vibe and feel, the Lobo plantation. So why not try both.
