My partner and I love a good escape room. We have completed all of the ones in our local area so decided to venture into the city to give this place a go. Positives first! The staff were great. Our host was fantastic and very confident in front of the whole waiting room of people. I enjoyed that the room (bank heist) referenced actual figures from Australia’s 1920 underworld history. Negatives… the room itself was a bit tired. At least two of the mechanisms in our room required excessive jostling to make them work. It was only because we were confident with our answers that we were able to discover that we needed to put additional force/jiggle the different mechanisms in the room. We were also booked in for 11:30, told to arrive at 11:15 but did not get started until 11:45. Perhaps we have been spoilt with other places we’ve visited, but it was odd to be briefed with at least 20 other people who were doing other rooms. It seemed very chaotic and unorganised.

Dear Gemma, thanks for your review and sorry to hear you did not have a 5 star experience with us which most of our customers do according to our reviews. We will take on board your feedback and strive to improve on those points you raised. Hope to see you back soon to try our other rooms - we have 6 indoor room themes (taking between 2-10 players per room), 2 outdoor adventures, remote team events for teams of any size and many downloadable games to play at home! We also offer two other exciting concepts in the same building as Escape Hunt - Quiz Room (https://quiz-room.com/sydney), a first of it's kind immersive trivia game and Virtual Room, a mind-blowing VR escape room adventure (https://sydney.virtual-room.com)

Well my husband did not know what to expect we are 63 and 55 years old , but I love it he seem to like it but doesn't like to be confused. First I must start with the negative we booked the bank hoist for 2pm then received a message we couldn't have it to 2.15pm which was fine when we arrive lifted stuck on level 5 no-one fault these things happen. So we finally got up to level 5 only to find out we where booked but not booked in go figure., so no bank hoist for us lucky us two customers want to reschedule so we got the Secret mission room. Now it was fun and hard for us but would definitely try again with a group and double check our booking. Yes the team there was having what seem a hard day but where also very nice

Dear Lisa Sorry to hear about your experience. Am not sure why your booking was not in the system but always the best way to book is online as then it's definitely going to be there. Hope to see you again another time and we will be sure to ensure your excellent experience Cheers Rebecca

Hi all

My team have been to Escape Hunt Sydney twice. They cater mainly to the corporate market, but the quality of their rooms, both in puzzle design and level of immersion, is pretty weak. Puzzles are often illogical and included "just for the sake of it". There have also been errors in puzzles both times we were there, which was really frustrating.

My team and I have now escaped from 50 rooms (all of the Sydney rooms and others around the country).

Escape Hunt Sydney has a surprisingly high TripAdvisor rating, which I put down to the fact that a lot of first timers try Escape Hunt Sydney, so those players have no benchmark against which to compare their experience. Every experienced escape room player I know who has tried an Escape Hunt Sydney room has put it towards the bottom of their list.

Trust me, there are so many other better quality rooms in Sydney (Cipher Room, Enigma Room, Paniq Room, ParaPark Sydney, Next Level Escape, Social Escape Rooms, Labyrinth Escape Rooms, Mission Sydney).

Give them a miss.

Thanks
Scott

Dear Scott, Thanks for taking the time to provide your review. We are always striving to improve our experience and are continually working on our games and puzzles as new concepts emerge in this fast changing industry. We pride ourselves on catering to as wide a market as possible, including family groups, students, corporate groups as well as escape room enthusiasts. We also offer our customers a true experience beyond just escaping the room - a comfortable lounge, a great game, excellent service, free dress up and photo shoot and complimentary refreshments which does seem to be highly valued. However, while we mostly get excellent reviews, we do understand that on occasion things can go wrong and it is extremely unfortunate to hear that this happened to you. Many of our bookings are made from people who have played many other escape rooms and also a large number of our customers are repeat customers who come back to experience our other rooms. I notice you have not played our new room - Secret Service Mission - this was benchmarked against all the other Sydney escape rooms you mention above and is consistently getting great feedback. Please do feel free to come back and try this room at your earliest convenience.

We took a group of 10 teenage girls to celebrate my daughters birthday. They split into two teams and competed to get out of identical rooms. They had a ball. They were buzzing with excitement for hours afterwards. Can highly recommend it for a birthday party.

We went to the Escape Hunt with a group of five and tried the robbery in the cottage room.

The Escape Hunt experience is very well located on George St, and easy to walk to from either Town Hall or Wynyard station. The place is nicely decorated, they have puzzles that you can do while you wait for your escape experience, and there is also hot chocolate, tea, coffee and water if you want it. There are also boxes with clothes and props so that you can dress up and take photos if you like. While all little things, they were all nice touches that definitely added to the experience overall.

The escape room itself is quite good. There were a series of puzzles, some being harder than others and they have clearly tried to cater to different age groups and backgrounds. The staff are also quite attentive if you need help. My only criticisms are that one of our markers for our whiteboard did not work (minor issue really) and also, one of our clues had been written on, presumably by a previous customer, so we read our clue wrong, went off track for quite some time and needed to call for help. Otherwise, it was great!

Costing wise, the escape hunt is a little bit expensive. We payed 180 for the five of us for an hour and while we would have had to pay more if we had fewer people, 36/pp seems a little expensive for an hour.

Overall, we had a great time and I definitely want to try out the other two rooms in the future.

Really looking forward to a challenge, my husband and I took on the robbery in the cottage room. While the initial puzzles were fun and challenging, most of the puzzles relied too heavily on you finding bits of stuff blu-tacked to various objects rather than actually solving a puzzle using your brain! The young woman running the room would not leave us alone and kept giving us hints all the time rather than letting us try to solve the puzzle ourselves. She seemed to think it was more important for us to finish the room rather than actually solve anything ourselves. So we both felt that we achieved nothing, she completed the room not us!! No fun, would not recommend.

I have been to the original Escape Hunt in Bangkok and had an amazing experience. This time, it was very mediocre. My wife and I signed up for two rooms as we were excited to continue our escape hunting. In the first room, there were a couple of puzzles that IMO could have been written better. No big deal though, we were able to get through with a couple of hints and get out in time.

In the advanced room, the experience deteriorated a bit. Our marker did not work and our flash light would not turn on because one of the batteries was dead. This would not have been a big deal, but they only had one young woman working and she was busy with another group. This meant we had to wait several minutes to make the exchanges and lost valuable solving time. The third strike was when we came to the last puzzle. With out giving out any spoilers, we could not complete the last puzzle because the "marker" had worn off. When we asked the staff about it after our time expired, she just laughed it off and said "oh well...I guess we need to fix that."

I would not let this deter you from trying the escape hunt. These are small issues and can be fixed easily. When you have people paying good money for an experience, I expect the batteries and puzzles are in working condition. And if not, someone should be there to help you quickly--especially when you are racing against the clock. Hopefully, they make the necessary improvements.

Dear msl255 Thank you for the taking the time to do a review and provide your feedback. We are extremely sorry to hear about your experience and also to be receiving our first negative review (most customers are very happy!!). We aim to differentiate ourselves from other escape games by providing a far superior customer experience so feedback like yours is important to ensure this is always the case. We do have checks and processes in place to ensure all items are working properly and always have spares at hand as well. We will follow up with the staff on duty to establish further what happened here and will ensure any necessary improvements are implemented straight away. Please email me on sydney@escapehunt.com so I can discuss this further with you. Cheers Robin

I've played the equivalent games in London (Hint Hunt and Clue Quest - escaping both games) and I found The Escape Hunt Experience Sydney just as thrilling. I played the Pub room with a friend and we were challenged. The game masters are friendly, fun and very helpful when you are getting stuck! I think this is such an awesome, fun, unique experience that everyone must check out if you have a free hour in Sydney! Thank you!

I've played Escape room games in various other countries around the world, and was really excited to discover that Escape Hunt was coming to Sydney. My friends and I were lucky enough to be one of the groups who got to play on their opening night. We played the room Robbery in the Cottage.

The Escape Hunt staff were really welcoming, and explained how things would run in detail.

Unfortunately being the opening night there were technical difficulties in our game, where one of the puzzles we successfully solved still failed to open up. This lost us a good 10 minutes and we failed to escape in time in part because of this, and Escape Hunt staff had to provide us the spare key when they realised their puzzle had glitched. This minor technical glitch is the only reason why I'm not rating Escape Hunt with a 5 out of 5. I believe anyone going to Escape Hunt after this should be fine though, as I think being opening night there are bound to be malfunctions.

My friends and I nevertheless had a lot of fun, and we will be back again undoubtedly.

Hi YPanda, Thanks so much for your review. We are very sorry for the technical glitch but as you've pointed out this has been resolved and all is running smoothly. We would love to have you back to play our other rooms. Kind regards The Sydney Escape Hunt Team

I would like to say that I have attended an Escape Hunt in Basingstoke so I was comparing them as they're the same escape chain.

So like most escape rooms it was in a janky place with is part of the fun. We got in a uncared for lift and arrived in escape hunt.

There were three of us there, waiting at the front desk for what felt like 5 minutes which I know that it doesn't sound like a lot but when I looked around to see where the staff were, the 2 girls were just sat, on their phones chilling. When we were finally served it was "go sit on the sofa and sign in on the tablets" in comparison to Basingstoke which was friendly, offered us drinks and made us feel at home.

We were then thrown into our room "Wizard" where we were handed a piece of paper to read to get the back story, There was no safety chat at all. In Basingstoke the receptionist gave us the safety chat and our GM told us the back story, in accent for the rooms (we did a Wild West theme and Nordic rooms in Basingstoke, and yes he did a Nordic accent). I just assumed that they don't do this in Aus.

The room was decent, it lacked a bit of guidance at the start, but I wont go into too much detail to avoid spoilers, it was very well designed though, but could do with hiding a not so secret door. I will say that there was no music or atmosphere sound scape for over 10 mins which made it feel awkward and unimpressive. The room itself was good, decent puzzles, art touch up's needed on some bits, but would recommend the room to others.

The room had a good climax to escape which we did... or at least we thought we did. We exited back into the main room and had no one to greet us. We were out there for a bit walking in and out as we thought we had more to do. (The only time we've ever escaped and had no one to greet us was when we escape quicker than the GM thought we would, still hold the record in Margate for it :D ) I left the room and found the two girls lounging on the sofa again and I had to ask "did we escape?", she replied "did you do this thing in the room, which I said yes, "Oh then yes" she said. The way she said it, made me feel like it was an inconvenience to her, making me doubt whether we actually escaped and she just wanted to get us out. It put a dampener on a decent room.

Even at the end, it was all left up to us to ask for a photo, us to get a drink. In comparison to Basingstoke, we left our first room and the manager had come down to speak to everyone and got us drinks. He chatted to us asked us about other rooms we did and like I said earlier made us feel welcomed. We did our second room with them and came out to drinks already served waiting for us.

In summary, I like Escape Hunt in Basingstoke, I feel Escape Hunt in Sydney could be just as good if the staff gave better customer service.

Dear Christopher - thanks so much for your detailed review and sorry it's taken so long to respond (it appears Trip Advisor is not emailing us as reviews come in anymore). I am very disappointed to hear about your experience with us as we pride ourselves on excellent customer service. As you can see by the many reviews since your visit noting the great staff we had. I will of course raise this with the team as a reminder that customers should always be greeted warmly and treated well throughout the whole experience. Hopefully the staff in question are no longer with us or have improved! Cheers Rebecca
