The area

Neighbourhood: Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.

The exhibitions are amazing but the staff are the stars!

It’s a small zoo in the middle of Sydney, but don’t let the small part trick you. We spent more time there due the amazing staff that were always at the right time to help us with any questions and make the experience unique!

100% recommend it! The Koalas area was amazing but also all the other less popular animals have something cool or interesting to hook you up. This is the kind of zoo that will be perfect for a morning visit when going to Sydney CBD.

Great experience and secret encounter

We absolutely loved the platypus random encounter we got chosen for. I really liked seeing koalas up close and the keeper talk about the kangaroos done by Keeper Jessica. It was her first keeper talk and she did an excellent job.

Fabulous

Went with my adult daughter with not too high expectations. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It was wonderful. Highly recommend. You do not need a entire day there but a number of hours is great. Great enclosures, lots of eating areas, water sprays for a hot day, plenty of room to see the animals. So good.

Great quick zoo experience
Mar. 2021 • Family
We are locals but this was our first time doing the zoo and we only went because we had to buy a 2 attraction pass with the aquarium.
The entry process was incredibly frustrating. Waited in queue only to be told my tickets hadn’t come up on Apple wallet correctly so had to go to a separate queue to get tickets printed. Overall took about 30 minutes to get in. Whilst staff were really nice there weren’t enough of them and there was really poor signage so a lot of people were confused and being turned around. Not great particularly with two young kids in tow.
The exhibits have been done really nicely and there is lots of educational reading and videos.
The kids LOVED the crocodile enclosure and be able to get so close.
I would definitely recommend it for time-poor travellers who want a quick look at Aussie animals somewhere central.

Great fun. Very interactive small Zoo. Staff were very helpful, accomodating, knowledge and great with the kids.
We found it just long enough for the kids to stay interested and not get to tired.

Darling harbour ZOO

Rather expensive considering how long it takes to explore the zoo. An hour max. Our daughter did enjoy the up close and personal with the Koala but this was extra on an already expensive price. No animal talks ect I assume because of Covid

Special dinner and tour.

Our special experience was an after hours tour and a dinner for ten guests. The whole experience was terrific. The guide took time to explain things well and her enthusiasm and knowledge were much appreciated. Our delicious three course dinner was served beside the koala enclosure.

Great Experience for Australian Animals
Oct. 2020 • Couples
Great experience. Staff are friendly and they are talking to you about the animal and give you some educations of them. Love the open area that you could be very close to the kangaroo and Koala
