Neighbourhood: Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.

definitely wasn't FROZEN
Mar. 2021
i regularly visit the Capital Theatre for shows and was not disappointed once again. the Theatre is a beautiful building and the COVID restrictions were well advised and policed. Masks were worn during the performance and in the foyers.
The show was fantastic. Seats are becoming uncomfortable now but this did not detract from the show.

The old world charm of this beautiful theatre. Lots to look at. We saw the musical Frozen and we had amazing box seats. You can really lose yourself here. A step back in time. It’s wonderful this iconic theatre is still here for us all to enjoy. The staff are warm and friendly with amazing customer service skills. Well done can’t wait to return.

Walking into the past.
Sep. 2020
I didn't go in, just hanged around outside.
Just hanging around outside can transport me to the past but only up to a point.
Need to put on the internet more old photos of the people who entertained in Capitol Theatre Campbell St, Haymarket; this will enhance my imagination when I hang around outside the Capitol Theatre in Campbell St, Haymarket.

Absolutely fabulous show showcasing many young musicians making the show very bright and very entertaining. A show for both young school children and adults.

Its very nice music, dance alright, pretty colours and costumes, some great acrobatics... in a nice venue with friendly staff and a very efficient bar - but that's all of nicities. Its neither exceptional nor deserves all the attributes from the advertisement.
Dont fall for the advertisement. It is not a guided tour through thousands of years of Chinese history, more like a childish cross crossing through some fairytales and myths combined inedbed with regional flavours.
It is religious and political. It is Falung-Dafar propaganda - right in your face and cringeworthy.
I expected more from the theatre and was disappointed that it would allow such false pretence. What should have been a night of marvelling at Chinese history and dance culture turned into a religious/political propaganda show with mediocre cultural content as framework.
Very disappointing

Shen Yun 2020, it’s bad.

Essentially the same dance in different costumes (sleeves of varying lengths) again and again with anti-intellectual, anti-science, anti-athiest, anti-Communist themes throughout that are about as subtle as a brick to the face.
About half way through the worlds worst Soprano sings the most ridiculous religious song promoting hard conservative morality, denouncing atheism and evolution by natural selection.

Theater experience
Dec. 2019
This beautiful old venue has been beautifully restored, the seating was most comfortable and well situated each row slightly off set from the one in front. all in all a most enjoyable experience.

School of Rock/Capital Theatre
Jan. 2020
We attended a Sunday matinee of School of Rock at the Capital Theatre Sydney. The theatre is an amazing place with friendly staff and plenty of leg room. The show it’s self was absolutely awesome. We had the alternate Dewey and he was great. The child cast with the singing and musical instrument playing is out of this world. A special mention must go to the young girl who played Tomika I think her name was Sabina our group thought she was fantastic. Make sure you see this great show before it’s too late. Congratulations Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Nice Theater
Jan. 2020
We went here to see the School of Rock. It was a Friday afternoon and expected a lot of kids. There were many but very well behaved. The theater is very old but in very nice shape. No bad seats in the house. Acoustics and layout were very good. We enjoyed the show and would come back to see something else.

Are booster seats available for small children?
I had front row seats to see Frozen and want to go again and take my 5yo but she would need a booster being so close to the stage.

I have a 10 and 13 yr old, looking at buying the obstructed view seats near front - told they are ok. Can anyone advise if they have sat here and what it was like ?

Not sure.. haven't sat there...but if you go into Tickatek site & log on as if choosing seats it will usually give you the view you will see as if you were choosing that seat... Hope that helps :)

Wilson Parking - Market City.
If you're seeing a show at Capitol Theatre, take the ticket to the reception desk at Capitol Theatre and they will discount your parking ticket to $8

We are taking out family to see Mamma Mia - I was wondering what the seats are like in the dress circle – Row N and also row P – we have our kids with us (6 and 8 yr olds) but I have heard they provide boosters if we arrive early

Hi, the dress circle is great for children, the seats are all on angles up the aisles so you can see, I would recommend having seats closer to front in case you have tall people sitting in front.

Just wondering what the seats are like in Row B. I've booked tickets thinking they wouks be good like at the state theatre. I'm just worried they are too close.

Can I buy a voucher in the uk for my daughter who lives in Sydney?

Hi there. Greetings to you in lovely York...I am originally from Hull. I am not sure what you mean by a voucher. Is this a ticket to see a show or a gift voucher to see anything? You can buy gift vouchers to do a tour of the State Theatre ( If you Google this you will find them, I cannot post any links in these comments), but for the shows you have to buy the tickets individually either from Ticketek to Ticketmaster, depending on who is selling the show. There are links to each show on the State Theatre website. I hope that helps
