There was plenty of well organised entry into the theatre & seats were very comfy & spaced apart well so you don't have to worry about treading on someone toes when you go past them along the row. Always a pleasure to go to a show here as it's such a beautiful authentic older style theatre.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2024
- Stephen CWollongong, Australia794 contributionsChicago MusicalReason for visit, we had tickets to see the musical Chicago at the Capital Theatre. Friday night performance - nice old world style theatre, hassle free entry and good direction to our seating. Upper floor in Dress Circle - I think, seating is older style and not as cramped as some other venues but still would say overly comfortable. Enjoyed the atmosphere and decor and nice to see some staff walking through with some snack options before and during intermission. Show was quite entertaining and talents and voices of the production team appreciated. Personally unaware of the shows script and didn't recognise more than a couple of the songs - probably not to my taste but still a good production.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 June 2024
- Lucy CMittagong, Australia6 contributionsCapitol Theatre is amazing!I saw Sister Act The Musical here recently and was amazed by this theatre. It's a lot different from others I've been to, but that's what makes it cool! Even though we sat close to the back of the dress circle, the noise was crystal clear, and we could see the stage. It was a challenge to see facial expressions, but overall, I loved the entire experience. I'd recommend coming to see a musical here either for a day out or something special and sentimental.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 September 2024

I'm so glad we did, the theatre is beautiful! We saw Sister Act (which was a fun show) and it had a lot of lights and mirror balls so I didn't see the theatre without the lighting for the show, but I'm certain it's still fabulous.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 September 2024

i regularly visit the Capital Theatre for shows and was not disappointed once again. the Theatre is a beautiful building and the COVID restrictions were well advised and policed. Masks were worn during the performance and in the foyers.
The show was fantastic. Seats are becoming uncomfortable now but this did not detract from the show.

This is a wonderful theatre, to see the big shows at, in the dress circle, the seats are very well angled and ensure an excellent view, for us row B, (providing plenty of leg space) is preferred to A as the railing can disrupt the view.
The staff throughout the theatre were unfailingly friendly and helpful, which made the co-vid situation much easier.
The show frozen was superb-go if you get the chance before it ends in May 2021.

We visited to see Beauty and The Beast and enjoyed our time in the theatre. Seated in row M in the upper level provided a good but elevated view of the stage. The theatre is quite unique in its decoration and worth a visit to check it out. What spoilt the performance for us was the rudeness of some audience members who chatted through the entire show. Sydneysiders should be embarrassed by the way they left garbage throughout the theatre after the performance. It is not hard to show some respect and place rubbish in bins.

It's best not to buy tickets at the theater box office!
I bought a same-day ticket ($AUS100) at the theater box office. When I handed my credit card to the young male clerk at the counter, he said that the card machine wouldn't go through, so I paid with cash. I had a brief conversation with him, and when he saw the Rakuten card I presented to him, he seemed to realize that I was a tourist from Japan.
However, after I returned home, I received a charge from my credit card company for the same amount, and realized that I had been charged twice. I have requested a refund from the theater many times, but it has been three months and I still have not received a refund. Tourists from Japan should be especially careful.

Capital Theatre is a beautiful theatre in Sydney that always hosts amazing shows. I have been there many many times over the years and never had anything but an amazing experience.
I would like to especially compliment and thank the staff that helped myself and my friend at a viewing of Moulin Rouge. My friend experience some sensory issues during the show. The staff were amazing in helping him recover during half time and providing accomodations that allowed us to view the second act of the show. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of care provided that day.
Thank you so much to the entire Stalls/ground floor staff they were so lovely, understanding, caring and helpful on the 11/10/22. Especially Sam, Adam, Floor manager and the Stalls door 2 Usher.

My wife has limited mobility and has to use a pusher which is a challenge with the crowds. The show and venue were absolutely fantastic, but the staff who helped us were outstanding, and I wanted to praise their courtesy and helpfulness.
They patiently explained exactly how to get to the elevator, and the best option to minimise the number of stairs. Upstairs an usher stowed away the pusher and assisted my wife to our seats, dress circle row A/18 & 19. He returned at half time and helped us up some stairs to the foyer, where the queue to the Ladies loos was a mile long. However, our brave minder ushered us into the convenience of an accessible toilet. Its experiences like which make you want to come back.
Your staff are most respectful and courteous and have been very well trained.
May i suggest that they are even worth more money?

I've been to the Capitol Theatre a few times to see Wicked, Lion King and now Frozen.
I actually saw Frozen twice, both times splurged on Front Row Seats and they were amazing.
I'm not sure what other front row seats are like for other shows but seeing Frozen so close up was magical.
My 5yo also sat in the front row with a booster and had no issues at all.
We had an amazing time and loved every minute of the show.
The theatre itself is gorgeous and the staff were amazing.

Are booster seats available for small children?
I had front row seats to see Frozen and want to go again and take my 5yo but she would need a booster being so close to the stage.

I have a 10 and 13 yr old, looking at buying the obstructed view seats near front - told they are ok. Can anyone advise if they have sat here and what it was like ?
Written 2 January 2020
Not sure.. haven't sat there...but if you go into Tickatek site & log on as if choosing seats it will usually give you the view you will see as if you were choosing that seat... Hope that helps :)

We are taking out family to see Mamma Mia - I was wondering what the seats are like in the dress circle – Row N and also row P – we have our kids with us (6 and 8 yr olds) but I have heard they provide boosters if we arrive early
Written 26 March 2018
Hi, the dress circle is great for children, the seats are all on angles up the aisles so you can see, I would recommend having seats closer to front in case you have tall people sitting in front.

Just wondering what the seats are like in Row B. I've booked tickets thinking they wouks be good like at the state theatre. I'm just worried they are too close.

Can I buy a voucher in the uk for my daughter who lives in Sydney?
Written 14 October 2017
Hi there. Greetings to you in lovely York...I am originally from Hull. I am not sure what you mean by a voucher. Is this a ticket to see a show or a gift voucher to see anything? You can buy gift vouchers to do a tour of the State Theatre ( If you Google this you will find them, I cannot post any links in these comments), but for the shows you have to buy the tickets individually either from Ticketek to Ticketmaster, depending on who is selling the show. There are links to each show on the State Theatre website. I hope that helps
