Circular Quay is a colorful port where ferries and cruise ships board and depart, and boat watching can be as good a pastime as people watching. While street performers entertain outside, those wanting a more cultural experience can head into the Museum of Contemporary Art where a sculpture garden on the roof is as much a view as the waterways below.

Circular Quay was historically the international transport stepping on /off place for visitors, migrants and returning travellers. It is a mini walk through history. If architecture is your thing, there are buildings from 1800's to modern style. There a galleries to visit, cafes and restaurants to dine in. Pubs for a quiet ale or a raucus rock on are nearby... We spent 5 days on the harbour and went everywhere, some 4 or 5 times. The services are well timetabled and a variety of foods and entertainment provided. It was extremely hot so shelter is keenly sought.

Lots going on here - many restaurants, shops, cruise ship terminal, can take cruises of the harbor and to Manly Beach, near the opera house.

A hub of activity. We had a room at the Marriott which overlooked the quay and we watched the ferries and cruise ships coming in and out. Great location to see and be a part of.

Circular Quay is in the heart of Sydney's harbour. Great location to see the Sydney bridge, The Opera House, catch a ferry or find out about the various boat tours offered. Lots of restaurants and tourists shops as well. We were there over New Years and it was packed with people; it was a much nicer experience when the crowd... More

People come here for the Opera House and the bridge, the Rocks and the ferries to Taronga Zoo, Manly and elsewhere, but there are museums as well, and of course plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. It's a useful transport hub as well - but of course all of this means it gets VERY crowded.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
