Neighbourhood: Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.

- Scott GWashington DC, District of Columbia402 contributionsA lovely treatAfter you visit the Opera House, enjoy a stroll around the gardens. They are peaceful and lovely, and flat, so it's easy to walk there. We saw many different types of birds. We visited here on our very first day in Australia, and it was a great introduction for us.Visited September 2022Written 11 December 2022
- MaxDa Nang, Vietnam133 contributionsA lovely walkWe walked from the botanical garden to the opera house. What took me by surprise was the view of the opera house from this angle - it's not pretty, or perhaps it's because I'm not used to seeing it from this side but it was a great experience. The botanical garden was lovely too.Visited November 2022Written 15 December 2022
- SolihullTravellerSolihull, United Kingdom733 contributionsWonderful Way To See Sydney. We did the walk from the Botanical Gardens to the Opera House as part of a much longer trek starting in Kings Cross and walking down to the military harbour in Jerremon Bay, past the ships and Finger Wharf (worth a visit inside), then up to Mrs Macquarie's road and the headland by Sydney Harbour and Wooloomooloo Bay. You walk past Mrs Macquarie's chair and get the views of the Opera House, Bridge and Sydney from Farm Cove as you walk back round from the Botanical Gardens. It's a good long 5 miles and we did it in the rain. Brilliant way to see some great views though.Visited January 2023Written 20 February 2023

if you can make only one walk in Sydney, this is the one to do! Great views of the bridge and opera house, trailing along the harbor, and entering into the Royal Botanic Garden with its huge trees and relaxing greenspaces.

We walk on the path beside the waters, taking us about 10mins to reach a viewpoint facing opera house with harbour bridge behind. Nice spot to take photos of 2 Iconic landmarks of Sydney. Botanic garden very nice to walk and great to see people sitting around to enjoy the serenity.

This walk ticks all the boxes for an enjoyable walk of the harbour, peaceful, scenic, and plenty of room, and only walkers, no bikes permitted in the gardens. Allow plenty of time.

Easy walk with awesome views and beautiful gardens. The gardens are a lovely place to take time out of the busy city. The cafe at the gardens is expensive for what's offered.

As you go around the Opera you get to see it from another point of view while you approach the gardens. There is also the harbor with its many ships, ferries and birds to view. In the gardens the many varieties call you to walk on from one to another.

What are the shows in the next ten days at Sydney Opera House. I am here now.

If you go on the Opera house web site it will give you all the shows that are currently on. If you are staying in a hotel the reception or concierge will be able to help you.

I plan on driving into Sydney from Katoomba on a Monday morning during mid-January. Would it be ostentatious of me to believe that I can see the harbour front, Opera House, and Botanic Gardens all in one day while still leaving time for lunch, dinner, and checking into an AirBnB nearby?

You should be able to do all that in the morning. There are tours of the opera house you might not have time for if you want to wander around the gardens longer - but they are all right in the same place, so if you have an entire morning you will be able to get a good feel for all three.

Trying to get a handle on the weather in early April in Sydney. Would appreciate any help. This walk sounds like a 'must do' on our list. We'll be there for three days prior to our cruise, in April, 2016.

April in Sydney is Autumn : it's warm but not as hot as in the summer months. Very nice for walking about.
Expect daytime temperatures around 20°C (68°F) cooling down at night to 15°C (58°F) .

How long of a walk is it between the Opera House and the Gardens?

The Opera House plaza abuts the Botannical Gardens. The plaza is large with multiple levels. From the Opera House building itself the entrance to the Botannical Gardens is less than a five minute walk.
