A great experience in the heart of Sydney. Our children loved checking out all of the exhibits and even though the crowds are intense... it's so worth it. We pre-paid parking at The Opera House and hung out throughout the day. It made for an easy escape once the city started getting busy! Very worth it. I'd recommend a meet... More

If you go to Sydney in May/June, you MUST incorporate the nightly light show in your plans. Sydney and its harbour, Darling harbour and Taronga Park Zoo come to life with aspectacular light display and there is far too much to see in one night. Even on week nights be prepared for massive crowds.

It was my first time to visit Australia and I'm glad I went during winter because I was able to experience Vivid. The lights were spectacular and the activities seemed fun (there were interactive ones and a food bazaar); the light shows at the different landmarks (such as the Sydney opera house, contemporary museum, bridge, customs house, royal botanic garden)... Festive and fun enjoyed the walk around the city from Wyndar station to Circular Quay. Sydney City is so very beautiful. Well patrolled by police and crowds were huge but well behaved. Great family night. Wear comfy shoes.

We got to experience Vivid for two full nights and it was so amazing! There were so many things to see and so many good photo opportunities. We felt like we only saw about 1/3 of everything though as we just didn't have enough time. Pretty much everything was free to see except for the zoo, but the zoo lit... More

This is really a spectacular event. I went in twice, once with my daughter, once without. There is a significant amount of walking invloved to see it all. My daughter, 8, was over it by the end but she did love it before becoming tired. Crowds were quite heavy both times which did make it frustrating on occasion, but it... More

I've been to Vivid a total of six times. The displays grow in their complexity and in their breadth across Sydney. Somewhat unfortunately for the individual has the crowds which is really just testament to the trill excitement and wonder Vivid creates in the human mind. It is one of those experiences that leaves you in awe and leaves you... More

I visited on the last night in July and although cold there was no rain. This is a spectacular annual event that seems to get bigger and better every year. It does get very crowded at times.

Once a year for a few weeks, this awesome light show comes to town! The streets are packed, the atmosphere is cheerful and the scenes are stunning. Make sure you get down here no matter what. There are soo many cool interactive displays, coloured lights lighting up the buildings around the quay, and changing every few seconds with different themes.... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
