Wonderful picture telling the true story of the king of Botswana, Seretse Khama superbly played by David Oyelowo who married a white woman Ruth Williams also superbly played by Rosamund Pike. This film starkly captures the issues of British colonialism in Africa in the 1940's causing institutionalized inequality between black and white, rule by division and economic imperialism. The way... More

More than just a cinema, apart from being a wonderful historic building showing the best movies, it also hosts special events like "live" performances of British theatre such as Helen Mirren in The Audience and guest appearances of legends like Red Dog. Great movies and something for all tastes.

A visit to the Art Deco Orpheus is a must for locals and visitors alike. Experience the nostalgia of a past eras but at the same time watch the latest movies projected with new technology. The Orpheus even has an organist who plays on weekends prior to the movie. A visit to the Orpheus will be remembered and will likely... More

A trip to see a movie here is like stepping back into a classier time. Old fashioned service in a classic building. Special events are hosted here too. A date at the movies is special here!

The Hayden Orpheum is a must do cinema complex. If you go to the biggest cinema to see a movie they have an organist pop up and perform before the movie on weekends. The whole place is an exercise in nostalgia but with good picture quality and excellent sound. They serve pop tops, popcorn and drinks so all traditional movie food... More

Great theatre, average movie. Popcorn is salty and the ice creams are cold. Must try the champagne tickets

The Orpheum theatre is a delight with its art deco architecture. It also shows a huge range of films, some of which are not available elsewhere. If you haven't visited and enjoy art deco architecture, go now!

A beautiful cinema making a change from the hussel and bussel of the Multiplex cinemas. Very clean and the decor is a step back to a bygone era, but still all the mod cons in terms of sound and vision. It's our local cinema and if it's not showing the movie we want, we'd rather wait than go to one... More

It's worth going to the Orpheum just for the architecture Everything from the ushers to the decor takes you back when "Going to the Movies" was a social event The program is electric but with real highlights such as the recent Hitchcock festival and David Stratton's choice of best English movies Another great feature is that it screens the Met... One of the last remaining picture palaces in all of Sydney which shows a range of films not just the usual mulpiflex fodder. There are a number of cinemas and interesting one offs such as director's nights which are a must.
