Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The walking ghost tour was a fun and interesting way to see and learn about the history of the Rocks and some of the dark stories from times gone by! Our guide, Craig, was friendly and very knowledgeable. He made the whole group feel like they were part of the experience. I highly recommend this tour for everyone on their next trip to Sydney!

Had a really great evening with John our guide. Very informative, made us feel comfortable. Even if you don't believe in ghosts the history and beauty of the area is wonderful. Had some strange coincidence's during the night , even my teenager thought it was a great night. Would highly recommend it.

Lachlain our guide was excellent. He was in character, knew all the stories. Had a great time. You get to go places that the general public doesn't get to go to. Got a pic of a ghost in a window. It was so good. Highly recommend booking a tour.

The company is not flexible nor forthcoming with last minute emergency cancellations. I felt sick 24 hours before the tour. I even wrote an email requesting extension but I was declined any form of compensation. I lost $175 thanks to the company policy. I was hoping to pay a bit extra to secure an extension but the answer was a straight NO. I would not recommend booking the ticket unless you are 100% made up of steel and will not get ill.

I had expected this to be an innovative way of delivering sydney's past, social history etc, on a similar scale as the gaol tour in Melbourne. However, it was just random dramatisation, without any further insights into the cultural/ social/ historical context of most of the stories and worse, it was interspersed with lame stunts like shutting you in a historic place with lights off. I don't know if the host was trying to incite hysteria or what, but personally I found it to be poorly conducted. The other thing is, places where deaths had taken place do not necessarily translate to haunted sites, and it was irritating that the guide kept confusing the two. some of the stories are sad tales and should be treated with more respect - the manner in which they were delivered trivalised the crimes. Coming from Asia where spirituality, magic and hauntings are still very much a part of the prevalent world view, this tour really feels like a joke.

A tour to be avoided. I was expecting a tour of the historic Rock area with a few ghost stories thrown in and possibly some interaction but none of it. The tour started in the Rocks and was presented by a guide who was obviously new and not very good. Very little historic information and not very intersting ghost stories. The whole group were switched off within 10 minutes. To cap it all, the tour does not end in the same place as it starts so take a map in order to find your way back in the dark. My advice though is to avoid this one.

Ah the ROCKS!! One of the oldest and most mysterious parts of Sydney. By day it's a very cool location with cobblestone walkways and bustling alleys. But by night, it takes on a more sinister backdrop - perfect for this tour. I am very much a skeptic when it comes to these 'sightings', but the stories were interesting, captivating and the guides do their job well. The cost was about $45 dollars per person and worthwhile.
Loved the different view of The Rocks, the history of the convicts, the strange phenomena around the observatory and the case of the mysterious broken doll.

So much fun! We did have a couple of things happen on the tour like a tap on the shoulder and a light touch on an ear. Even without that we completely enjoyed ourselves with a few laughs along the way. Our host was amazing and extremely knowledgeable about the area and all things ghosty. HIghly recommend going! Please see attached ghosty photos :)

We gathered in front of an old cottage and was greeted by an enthusiastic man in a top hat and cloak, by the name of Gary. With a brief introduction to the tour and what to expect from it, we were on our way! We were taken through a vast variety of dark alleyways, creepy houses and exclusive access to historic eerie venues. This tour is great if you love spooky stories and a bit of history (not the boring history though), and if you like a bit of a laugh (Gary had a classic sense of dark humour and sarcasm!). It is quite a fast paced tour, so then you have the ability to get as much out of it as possible, and visiting as many venues as the time frame allows. Make sure to wear comfy shoes as he is a fast walker so time isn't wasted walking to the venues. Overall it is a fantastic tour. Great for those who love spooky stories, history or just want to have a bit of fun. 5 well earned stars for The Rocks Ghost Tours. Definitely a must do in Sydney, if you dare...

We arrive in Sydney at 5:30PM on February 3rd 2019. (We will have to check into our hotel, so 7:00 or 7:30 we could begin a tour. We’d like to do a night tour. Are there any? We’re going book a hotel downtown if you suggestions for 2 chicks from Denver on a budget?

Hi Pamela. If you arrive at that time and then check into your hotel, you might be pushing it for time. How long are you in Sydney? If a few days, you could give it a go on another night. This should stop you from having to rush. Your flight may get delayed and traffic at that time can be a bit thick.
As for the hotel, have you considered the International Youth Hostels (YHA)? I think they are wonderful, I have stayed in a couple in Sydney, including the one in the Rocks. They are clean, safe, modern and a great way of meeting people.
