If you are in the CBD area and want to find an authentic and reasonably priced meal, then Chinatown has many options. There are some great restaurants, but the food courts remain my personal favourite. There are 3 main food courts and you can find almost any type of tasty Asian food. The shopping is largely geared towards tourists, but... More

This is one of my favorite places in Sydney where you get to enjoy the bustling streets with so much to see. This isnt really affected by the holiday so most of the shops are opened (compared to other areas). Best to go here for the food trip where all sorts of Asian restaurants are available (Chinese, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysian,... More

Chinatown Sydney is still very much a lively and fulfilling destination and given the location adjacent to Paddy's markets, within easy walking distance to Darling Harbour and the heart of the George Street cinema areas and Town hall, not to mention Thai Town and the Spanish Quarter, it is of course a must-do in my beautiful city of Sydney.

A unique area of Sydney. A lot of locals and tourist. The few times I visited Chinatown it was busy. A lot of people walking around. There were restaurants everywhere. This area has a lot to offer. It is a great place to people watch and not far from Darling Harbour and the other tourist areas. Paddy's Market is also... More

Don't tell me that Chinatown is just one part of a short street, because you are only reviewing Dixon Street Pedestrian Mall, it seems. Chinatown is quite a large area, full of shopping complexes, Chinese Medical Centres, offices, banks and restaurants. Streets include: Thomas Street, several blocks of Sussex Street, the southwestern parts George Street and Pitt Street, Campbell Street,... More

Chinatown is a must see when visiting Sydney any time of the day or week. However it really comes alive on Friday with the night markets on the pedestrian part of Dixon street. Has a real vibe about it, with the smell of Chinese, food being freshly cooked. You cant but help to be enticed by one of the many,... More

Sydney Chinatown is a must stop every time I'm traveling to Sydney. The emperor bakery and the custard tarts are a must try. Mother Chu's across the road is a great little Taiwanese cafe serving authentic Taiwan beef noodles. The place could definitely do with a splash of paint and new vendors. Noticed every time I come here more and... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
