Top ways to experience Manly Beach
The area
Neighbourhood: Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.

This was our second visit to Manly. Taking a ferry from Sydney, walking along the promenade & then on the beach, sampling food from the innumerable eating joints here - all made for a nice day out!

The area can get a little crowded though.

This beach was Packed, hot, rude people who barge into you seamlessly on purpose. Wasn't worth the trip. I would most certainly avoid it.

Hi travelqueen10000, Thank you for your review and sorry to hear Manly Beach did not meet your expectations. It is very popular and can get busy in peak periods. Next time try one of our other nearby beaches that are quieter - Quarantine Beach, Forty Baskets Beach, Reef Beach and Little Manly Beach are all nearby and not so busy. Hope to see you again soon. Regards, Manly Visitor Information Centre

We were so fortunate with our timing here. We had chosen sydney as it had seemed quite a safe bet. We had booked a cute flat nearby to the beach but alas the lockdowns were starting and we had to cut our time here early. We will be back!!

Manly is a Sydney suburb, on the Northern Beaches. It's famous for its surf beach. It's a great place to lie on the sand and laze away a warm day. Getting there is half the fun, the Manly Ferry is famous, the trip takes 30 minutes from Downtown Sydney. The ferry operates seven days a week.

Hi 619jeffry Thanks for taking the time to write a 5* review - great summary of the beautiful village of Manly - if the sun isn't out - there are always the national parks to explore, take a hike up to North Head or hug the coast and explore the Manly to Spit Bridge scenic walk. This walk will take you along the harbour coastline for 10km and during the autumn/winter/spring months, you may be lucky enough to spot a whale or two from various vantage points. Make sure you pick up a map from the Hello Manly Information Centre located at the wharf as well as a few tips from the friendly staff! Warm regards

Staff were friendly and service was quick. We had fish and chips which were tasty, fresh and delicious. Beautiful harbour views and the restaurant was modern and attractive. Only complaint is the ladies toilets. The locks on two door of the four doors didn't work at all, the area around the hand basin was black with mold and the cubicles and doors badly need painting. Spoiled an otherwise good experience.

Hi Moira M Manly Beach is one of Australia's most beautiful beaches, located a short ferry ride from Sydney. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to Manly Beach. There are so many activities on offer, from lazing on the golden sands, surfing the waves or exploring the underwater world whilst snorkelling or diving. You can also explore the surrounding area by renting a bike, or walking one of the many walking tracks on offer. When its time to refuel, there are many restaurants, cafes and pubs where you can sate your thirst or hunger! Make sure you call in at the Manly Information Visitor Centre, located on the wharf forecourt, as you exit the ferry terminal. Here you can pick up your free map as well as handy tips from the local staff. We look forward to seeing you soon. Cheers

Hi Lognhaul Thank you for your review - Manly certainly is a great place to take the kids and during the winter months, it will never be too hot and maybe quieter! Shelly Beach is one of the safest as there are usually no waves there! Make sure you call in at the Visitor Information Centre to collect your free map of the beaches and learn some of the local tips! Cheers

I booked 7 rooms and was not told that the Sebel Manly did not have 24 hour check in. My guests arrived to find a locked up hotel room and an answering service that would not provide the name and contact number of the duty manager. If this wasn't bad enough for a hotel that pretends to have an international standing, when my guests finally were able to check in one of them found their bed sheets covered with semen stains. Totally disgusted with the whole check in service.

We caught the Manly Ferry from the Bridge which was about a 25 minute trip with some good photo opportunities along the way. Cost $9 each

The April temperature was 25 deg C, very comfortable for a walk along the iconic tree lined ocean boardwalk before returning to enjoy a glass of wine & light snack at a local restaurant.

Being a weekend when we arrived the side streets had the local flee markets for those that wanted take home souvenirs

Hi Rosco49 Thank you for your great review - the iconic Ferry ride from the City is certainly one of the most scenic ferry rides in the world! The cooler but still warm autumn months are certainly a great time to visit Manly and there are many fantastic walks to enjoy, including the Spit Bridge or North Head walk - make sure you call into the Visitor Information Centre to pick up your free map and some local tips from the friendly staff. Cheers

Hi jacqui5253 Thanks for your review - the ferry certainly is the best way to arrive in Manly, and only 30 minutes from Sydney CBD on the slow ferry or 17 minutes on the Fast Ferry. Next time you come to Manly, make sure you call in at the Visitors Information Centre, located on the Wharf Forecourt as you exit the ferry terminal to collect your free map of the area and get some local tips from the friendly staff. See you soon one day Cheers
