This is the head and entrance of northern beaches, easy access, amazing landscape, good for surfing snorkeling and also walking, the only request for the visitors is to not feed the seagulls if you dont want them to follow you.

Not really a family friendly town and beach. But it's nice and an easy ferry ride from downtown Sydney.

I include all these experiences into this review: ferry ride to Manly, Manly Wharf, The Corso, Manly Beach, Manly to Shelly Beach walk, Manly Ocean Foods. It was a perfect sunny day to go to Manly. We started the trip with a ferry ride that yake us from CQ to Manly. A 30 mins ride with beautiful views of Sydney... More

We went to Manly with our two boys 6 and 8 years old. We hired body boards from a surf hire shop on the foreshore for $15 per hour and the kids had a blast. The waves were good for surfers and small near the shore for kids and the water didn't get deep too fast like at Bondi Beach.... More

Easy public access via ferry from Circular Quay, or bus from Wynyard city trains. Manly has blue surf, clean sandy beaches with pine trees and sandstone walkways close enough to water to give shade and seating. Although beach has good facilities, life savers and all amenities for surfers and swimmers, it is the easy access and walking both north and... More

This is a wonderful beach, the people are friendly, and there are many shops and restaurants along the street from the ferry to the beach. If you like araucaria trees, this is a phenomenal display of them. Lots of beach activity - volleyball, etc.

Drive the north shore beaches. Beautiful sand clear sea and good choice of eateries. Needed more time to experience them fully but on a tight schedule. Need a return trip.

I liked this beach much more than Bondi, it was easier to get to, cleaner, and seemed to have much more to do in the surrounding area.

Worth just the ferry ride alone. The beach is a wide sweep of soft sand. A great place to chill out and watch the surf dudes. A variety of places to eat and drink.

Staying in Manly

Neighbourhood Profile
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
