About
We are architects and we want to share Sydney with you. We organise intimate walking and bicycle tours that are open to the general public. We also arrange private / customised architectural tours and itineraries on request. Taking the form of a series of urban provocations, our conversations are straightforward and jargon-free exercises in story telling. Aimed at the expert-enthusiast, we want you to understand the 'why' of the city whilst exploring the most provocative and daring projects Sydney houses; works of contemporary architecture, public art and landscape that inspire and delight but also projects that reveal something of Sydney's grimy pulse. We are interested in ideas and in the drivers of city; the vibrant network of invisible forces - political, cultural, economic and environmental that give the city form. Get stung by architecture. Sydney will never look the same again. Promise!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Eoghan’s Opera House Tour was among the most informative and personal tours I’ve ever taken. This guy knows his stuff! As a practicing architect, he can talk about the design and construction at a level of detail beyond the capabilities of an “ordinary” tour guide. Yet Eoghan presented everything in a way that engaged everyone.
He also gave fascinating insights into the competition to design the project, the personality of Jorn Utzon, and his troubled dealings with the NSW government.
This tour is definitely focused on the genesis of the Opera House as a building. It’s the perfect complement to the “Backstage Tour” given by the Opera House which covers the inside operations.
I highly recommend this SAW tour and look forward to taking others on future visits.

This tour blew my mind. I have lived here 15 years, and rushed up and down these streets, past these buildings, and it wasn't until architecture graduate Nick walked and talked us through SAW1's City Tour , the stories, the thinking and the architectural workmanship behind each of these 3 buildings, that it not only made me SEE these 3 buildings totally differently - but also understand and look at the city, and most likely other cities with more informed eyes too. Nick's knowledge and the ease with which he presented it, was captivating. Learnt so much - definately great value for money! Can't recommend this highly enough.

Eoghan was a great guide. His knowledge of the Opera House and Utzon was incredible. Gave a whole new insight into this iconic building and really put it into the context of Sydney at the time and as the work progressed. I would highly recommend this walk and will defintely be looking into some of their other walks.

This is a fascinating tour for people interested in the deeper architectural and social aspects of this incredible building. Although I live in Sydney I had not ever had a chance to look so closely at the House with such an expert guide. Highly recommend this tour.

Eoghan the tour leader was so full of enthusiasm and knowledge about the history of the Opera House, I learnt so much about the architect Utzon and the way in which he designed this iconic landmark. The tour was not at all stuffy or "Archy" it was fun, laid back at ran at a great pace. I would definitely recommend this tour to both visitors and locals as you will leave the tour with a much deeper understanding of the amazing creativity of the architect Utzon.

A riveting insight into the creative genius of the Opera House architect Utzon and the challenges he faced . Our guide Eoghan Lewis interspersed interesting anecdotes with facts and figures on the Opera House from concept to construction. Well researched ( Eoghan actually spoke to Utzon), my attention never waivered .... 3 hours well spent and highly recommended.

Exceptional tour with a really passionate guide. Though Sydney is my home and have done a few similar walks over many decades, Eoghan's enthusiasm and knowledge made for a fascinating few hours. I'd recommend this walk to anyone who is interested in Sydney's architectural or cultural development and history.

A knowledgeable and friendly guide who gave a wonderful overview through ‘Harbourings’ from traditional indigenous occupation to present day development.
The insights into the thoughts of the featured architects were wonderful, particularly Utzon.
The tour also highlights many aspects of the city which are interesting yet easily overlooked.
We are planning on exploring more of the city through another of the tours on offer by Sydney Architecture Walks.

My wife and I went on the Sydney walk on Sunday 31-Jul-22. The guide was engaging, knowledgeable and passionate. The topics were interesting as were the buildings and architecture.
The entire group of 13 appeared to enjoy themselves even on the cold day, so much so that we went nearly an hour of time with questions and general discussion.
If you have any interest in the built form them I would highly recommend.

We went on the SAW 6 'The Track' tour with Nick as our guide. Without a doubt Nick had so much information and spoke so enthusiastically and eloquently about the buildings we walked past, we were captivated! The two and a half hours zipped by. George Street has changed dramatically in the last 15 years, you will be amazed at what fantastically clever architecture graces that once busy thoroughfare! Having a guide to make you stop and look, and impart facts and stories attached to these new constructions is a must do and very well worth it.
Thanks, Nick, you were terrific!

Does the Architecture Walk of the Opera House include inside features too, or only walking around the outside?
Written 4 November 2018
Hi Rick
Our "Utzon and the Sydney Opera House" tour focuses on the work and ideas of its architect Joern Utzon. The Opera House interiors were designed and built by local architects and are not part of the tour as they were not designed by Utzon.
That said, the key spaces that have Utzon's touch including the main foyers, western colonnade and western foyers, public lavatories and platform entries are part of our tour. We also explain - using models and drawings - Utzon's designs for the glass walls, major and minor halls, furniture, light fittings and so on.
If you're interested in experiencing the Major and minor halls then I would suggest seeing a performance is the best way to do that - or joining one of the Opera House tours. We recommend that everyone goes to a performance.
Hope that answers your question.
