I took this walking tour in January 2020. It departs at 10:30am and 2:30pm and is almost three hours of coverage from City Hall in the center to Circular Quai (Opera House area) and ending at The Rocks nearby. The people are divided up into groups of about 20.My guide Rob was filled with historical, present-day, and some opinionated information, and a passion for the city he grew up in. We made at least ten stops along the way. Be prepared for about two miles of walking. There's a bathroom and coffee stop midway. He was compensated by tips. I noticed that most people were giving $10 or $15, and in my opinion, it was well worth that and more. Do this tour soon after arrival in Sydney, and come with questions, which the guide will answer individually at the tour's end. NOTE that this company "I'm Free" does similar walking tours in Melbourne, which I found equally comprehensive in coverage and information.

I got to the meeting point about 20 minutes before the departure time and found that there were many people already waiting! When the departure time came, we were split into groups of about 20. My tour guide was Jake, and he was AMAZING! He knew Sydney extremely well and gave us just enough information to keep us interested but not enough to bore us. We learned about the start of the city, and he took us to some of the highlights of the city (parks, the old hospital, Queen Victoria Building and so much more!). I would recommend wearing comfy shoes because you walk for about 3 hours. Bring lots of water as well! Luckily there is time to rest about half way through the tour so you can refuel then!

I fully recommend this tour. I would not have enjoyed my time in Sydney as much if I hadn't done this.

Spent a fantastic couple hours with Aida on the Sydney Free Walking Tour. We saw some of Sydney’s most beautiful sights and learned a great deal about the cities colonial and aboriginal history. Aida is a wealth of knowledge and shares not only her historical knowledge of the city but her personal favorites for view points, sunsets, food and fun. Can’t thank Aida enough for a great morning around Sydney.

Very interesting tour which showed us around the main sights of Sydney city centre and provided a brief but informative and interesting history of Sydney and it's most important people. The tour was delivered with great enthusiasm and clarity by our guide who was obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and also provided some good recommendations for places to see in Sydney, good bars and good restaurants.

We also went on the evening tour of the Rocks district with the same tour guide and found this to be just as entertaining and informative.

Overall I can certainly recommend going along with I'm Free Walking Tours both to orientate yourself with Sydney and it's rich history.

We arrived in Sydney on a Cruise from San Francisco where we took part in a free walking tour run by another firm. It showed us some of the historic buildings, the different quarters of the city, pointed out shops and features that only locals would know and changed the running order of the tour as was appropriate. In contrast our Sydney tour just covered the Central Area full of office workers. The tour divided into three groups with their own leaders but the groups were clearly following the same route and timings as we kept ending up at places together. When there was something that would have been interesting to see, for example the special clock in the shopping centre just after the start, we moved on even though the actions were to take place within 5 minutes. We have graded this average as we were shown certain things about Sydney, but felt that we saw and had explained more items of interest in the Hire Car from the Cruise Port to our Hotel near Central Station than we did on this tour.

Hi Rerp, Sydney and Melbourne are very different cities with different focuses. In both tours you covered the same distance, topics and equivalent areas. Business districts, important Parks and Harbour of Sydney or river of Melbourne. It's about perception, Melbourne's business district is full of little cafes, lanes, amazing art and culture. Sydney, being the financial capital of Australia, it's centre is business focussed. It's can be harder to see it's beauty when you're new to it, but it's there. We relish the chance to show it off. We delve into it's arcades, historic buildings, beauty of our harbour and convict district. In the case of the clock, a local insight into our history and quirkiness that we describe and point out on tour. The event goes for 15 minutes and is a small window so isn't possible to experience on tour. Part of every walking tour is to not only explain our city and its history from a local perspective but to set you up for the rest of your stay by describing everything you can do and see in your own time, after the tour is concluded. Have a great rest of your trip! Local Guide team I'm Free Sydney and Melbourne

Sarah was my tour guide, and she was great! The tour was 3 hours, very educational, got to see a lot of the city, and mentioned several additional places to see that weren't on the tour itself, which was great for planning things to do for the rest of that day and the next. (I highly recommend climbing the pylon of the bridge afterwards, and going to the Australian Heritage Hotel for Coat of Arms pizza afterwards-emu on one half, kangaroo on the other.) The map they give you is super helpful and has a lot of the landmarks marked. Sarah also emailed anyone interested a list of good restaurants in the area. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sydney!

on our first morning in Sydney, we opted to take a 3 hour walking tour. We have used this group before, in other cities so we knew the guides are generally excellent. Our guide was Sarah Labib. The next three hours flew by, as Sarah alternately mesmerized and enchanted us. The facts, the history, the secrets and quirks of Sydnet all came poring out. What a wonderful tour - close to perfection, The tour is free, so you tip the tour guide what you tthink she is worth. Sarah is worth her weight in gold!

Having done the Melbourne walking tour months previously, we remembered to use this company again, a no brainer really. And we weren’t disappointed.

We were shown round by Aida, who was as fantastically cheerful as she was knowledgeable of the city. She clearly has a real passion for the place and has done her research. (Thanks for the restaurant suggestions!)

For anyone who wants to do a tour of Sydney, this is the one to do and I’d recommend you do it as the first thing when arriving as it sets you up for the rest of the trip knowing where to go and what to see.

This is by far one of the best ways to get to know Sydney. Sarah is an incredible tour guide; both her jovial attitude and the amount she knows about this city she clearly adores rubbed off on all of us. She’s great at jumping back and forth between one on one convos and addressing the whole group. She kept us all traveling as a pack and made sure everyone was keeping up and in ear shot whenever she was going to tell us about a spot. I would seriously recommend that anyone who actually wants to get to know the city go on a tour with Sarah: great way to spend a beautiful afternoon

As with many of the major European cities we had visited, the free walking tours are the best way to start your urban adventure.

This one is no different.

The tour guide brings you up to speed on the most important and obscure features of this amazing place, Sydney. There are many hidden gems to be discovered and meaningful history connected to each of the city's sights - many of which would be impossible to assimilate without a local guide.

We were guided by Adrian on this tour. I must recommend him - he is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our time under his leadership through Sydney. (tip: ask him about some obscure pubs in the area, Sydney has a fair amount of spectacular watering holes)

I highly recommend this tour (and subsequently, this company) should you want to fully enjoy a kick-start to your Sydney adventure.
