Just fabulous

The trick is on the weekends, get here before it opens, there will still be a queue but you will wait minutes not an hour to get in. It is 3 floors so we decided to start at the top and walk down. At the moment the exhibition is ‘Lumen’ and will be on until November 2021 and is fabulous. There is a number of interactive pieces, perfect for the young and the young at heart. Entrance is free. The staff are friendly and helpful, so ask questions. The only problem is they only take credit cards in the gift shop. This is truly a must see gallery.

Due to its size and i guess to some point covid restrictions you may have to line up. Lots of fun and interesting interactive art. Great little restaurant too

excellent as always

I think this is Sydney's best contemporary art museum (it makes MCA look very staid). Its exhibitions, which usually change over a couple of times a year, tend to be very different from each other, I'm surprised every time I visit. The current exhibition features large-scale, quite meditative, pieces, which I think most people will enjoy, or at least find interesting.
Entry is free, so you don't have anything to lose by giving this place a shot. Covid rules mean that there are a few hoops to jump through to get in, but (on a weekday) that didn't involve much queuing.
There's a nice teahouse attached to the gallery, and many fantastic eateries nearby

It is good every single time

Such an amazing gallery in the heart of Sydney. The exhibits are spectacular, we visited "For Now". The exhibition was mesmerizing and peaceful, creating warmth ignited by the passion and dedication of the artists. The venue was doing a great job of social distancing and limited entrances to ensure patrons could freely move around the gallery and enjoy the exhibits. You also cannot visit the gallery without a trip to the tea house afterwards and enjoy a selection of teas and tasting plates.

White rabbit gallery
Dec. 2019
White Rabbit is an eclectic art gallery showcasing a private collection of largely modern asian art that rotates fairly regularly. The collection had some very impressive artworks when we were there, ranging over a few floors. There's a shop at the exit, but more importantly there's a swish tea joint! Get some extensively documented teas of all varieties, snack on some sweets or dumplings, and look at some nice artworks.

Every time we visit Sydney we include a visit to White Rabbit as they change their exhibition twice a year and the collection of Chinese contemporary art is just superb.

Stunning

We were lucky to wander in when a guided tour was happening. This free gallery (and tour) is set in a renovated purpose built space. Very intimate, set on 3 floors with the entry level shop also having a small cafe adjacent.
Until 26 th Jan 2020 , there is a 35 piece exhibition of contemporary Chinese artworks and installations. Some quite confronting by the way.
This is a private gallery permanently exciting the owners personal collection I believe.

Fascinating insight into Chinese contemporary art
Oct. 2019
This gallery offers free entry, to an intriguing display of Chinese contemporary art over three floors. Each of the exhibits is well-presented with helpful signage. Apparently the whole display is changed every six months.
While a few of the exhibits are rather confronting, each is fascinating and quite unique.
The cafe at the entrance is quite pleasant, with a limited range of dishes and drinks on offer.
Well worth a visit.

Really unique
Oct. 2019
This is a privately owned gallery featuring contemporary art from China.
The visitor who believes that China is a tightly controlled, authoritarian state will be delighted at the subtle artist response to those circumstances. The exhibitions change all the time, so not much point in commenting on specific pieces: they all become part of the personal collection of the White Rabbit Gallery owner, Judith Nielsen, who is building an nearby annex.
When planning your visit to Sydney, check the White Rabbit website to make certain you have a chance to see a show there.
There is a nice gift shop with unusual stock, as well as an excellent tea room, with a broad selection of delicate teas and other beverages. Do try the dumplings.
