About
Journey Walks are Narrative History Tours that reveal Sydney's secrets, bring to life its stories and connect you to its living heritage. Operating since 2016, Journey Walks offers handcrafted adventures through Sydneys colourful past & historic locations. Our walks have been carefully researched, written & curated by historians & script-writers to scratch below the city's surface and uncover the quirky characters, hidden histories & underbelly aspects of Sydney's notorious heritage. Join us in The Rocks & Circular Quay for a journey into Sydney's original Convict Colony, in Kings Cross & Potts Point as we uncover its infamous golden-age of crime & bohemia, and in Surry Hills as we bring to life the former haunts & hide-outs of Sydney's underworld. Our young and vibrant team of local guides are history & heritage professionals with tertiary training & fantastic storytelling skills. We offer small group experiences (both public & private tours) that engage, entertain & educate!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful tour. Our guide was exceptional. His knowledge and delivery were fantastic. I went with my grandson and we both enjoyed the experience very much. Wish we had the time to take a couple more of the walks.

We learned a lot about Sydney’s history from our great guide Max. What a nice way to explore the city on foot.

We really enjoyed the tour - our guide, Pete, was both very knowledgeable and very entertaining. We found out a lot about Sydney‘s history and also saw things and places we would not have found by ourselves. We can highly recommend this tour.

Fascinating walking tour with Lucy around 1920s crime hotspots in Surry Hills and Darlinghurst. Informative and entertaining with loads of facts and stories of people that bring the locations to life. Good value for 2 hours.

This was an outstanding tour!!! Very interesting and very informative. We liked the small group! We saw other large groups following like a herd of cattle behind a guide reading off of a script. Our guide, Max, was knowledgeable and passionate about his subject, and he did not read from a script. But just as important, he was able to answer every question that the people in our group had that wasn't part of his normal presentation because he really knew his subject material. Our one comment is that there were several "older" people in the group, and at times the pace was a little fast for several people to keep up with him in the heat of the day.

I have now been on 4 different journey walks tours around Sydney and have enjoyed every one of them. Max is an excellent guide and the information well researched with plenty of pictures and stories on what has happened in the area we where in. Groups are small so was easy to keep up with the others. Looking forward to going on more of these tours as new areas are added.

Max from Journey Walks took us on a fabulous walking tour today - Once Upon a Crime in Paddington. Having spent a lot of his younger years in Paddington, Max brought with him not only amazing knowledge but an obvious passion and love for the area. My husband and I have lived in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs for most of our lives and yet we were taken down narrow alleyways and heard stories we’d never known of before. We were with a group of about 10. Max did not use a microphone and yet we heard every word he spoke. It was really great and we can highly recommend the outing. The presentation was so professional that I would expect all the tours on offer would be worth doing.

I am visiting from the United States and very much enjoyed this tour. My knowledge of Australia’s history is limited, so I learned a lot about the early settlers. The historian who gave our tour is very passionate on the subject matter. He was open to all questions and friendly and easy to talk to. Just FYI it says two hours but I can go past 2 1/2 hours. But well worth it.
