Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although the view from the iconic Black Mountain Tower was smokey and the landscape brown and parched, it was still worth a visit. Firstly, there is an interesting Telecom museum on the lower level with phones used over the years, including one secret phone used by Menzies in the WW2 years. Secondly the 360 degree view from the top is amazing, even on a smokey day. There is a small cafe at the top offering coffee, drinks and a limited range of food and sweets. The macadamia slice was good. There is also a range of Canberra items for the tourists for sale. There is a cost to travel to the top but it is a good (and different) place with a usually- amazing view to meet family or friends for coffee in aircon on a hot day. As for the nature park aspect, not a place to walk on a hot summer day.

Really, viewing platform in the Telstra Tower at the top of the Mountain, Botanical Gardens at the base and Black Mountain Peninsula on the Lake front has free barbecues for families, adventure playground for the kids, but best that children are chaperoned, especially when using the public toilets as this is also a notorious hook up site for casual sex and 'dogging'. Sorry but it's true.

You can walk the trail up to the top of Black Mountain through the Botanic Gardens, and this is probably the nicest way to do it.
However, if you do not want so much uphill walking, then drive up, and park at the carpark towards the top, but NOT at the top, and go on a 30 min walk around Black Mountain. This way you are in the bush with the flowers and birds and have a changing view as you walk all the way around. It is not completely flat, and is at times uneven, but is very easy walking.
An alternative, is to park at the top, then follow the train down about 300m to where the loop track goes, then walk around and back up to your car.
Whichever way you do it, it is a great walk, and one of the best in Canberra (the others being up Mt Ainslie and up Red Hill).

Black Mountain Nature Reserve may be the lungs of Canberra, and features great wildlife and trees. However, there is a road to the top which is billed as providing a lookout on one of the best views of Canberra for people walking or driving to the top. The Telstra Tower may be closed indefinitely, but there is nothing to stop someone trimming ten degrees of trees to the right of the tower looking back towards Canberra so those walking or driving up can see some form of view. We were going to walk up and thank goodness we didn’t bother and drove instead as I would have been quite annoyed. Someone needs to take a few minutes with a cherry picker to trim some trees.

Lots of walking trails, and some very pretty views over Lake Burley Griffin. 3 small lookouts to chose from, or sit at, not disability friendly.
Very overgrown, it's like Canberra forgot it almost was razed in the fires of 2003 to allow this kind of overgrowth to keep happening. Telstra tower is 2 miutes further up the mountain.

Black Mountain Summit trail is a well rewarding walk amongst the trees whilst listening to bird singing. Good footwear is a must as some paths could be rugged. Water is important but we also took a small snack to have at the top near Telstra Tower. Didn't see any cafeteria at the top of the trail. Good view of Belconnen as you walk to the top. There are sign posts to follow for the trail. There are several options for parking but we parked at Belconnen Way entry. No pets allowed. Good for families.

The area was very dry but lovely to walk through. Saw one elegant tiny orchid that made my day. I did not quite go to the top since I was looking at vegetation and birds. The path was easy to follow and views along the way of the mountain and the city were fine.

This is the place the place to have a bird's eye view of the Capital city. It costs me $7.50 per person to be admitted to the top of the tower. The wind was blowing and after a 360 tour, we were warming ourselves with hot beverages at the tower cafe.

The photos we get here is absolutely stunning! Get there at sunset and you'll have a bunch of beautiful photos to take with you. We have always endeavoured to have a picnic out there - but never found the right spot.

Paid the $7.50 to go up the Telstra tower which was well worth it, the 360 views were fantastic and really help orientate the city. Cafe had nice coffee and a reasonable selection of snacks
Worth a visit!

Hi Team,
Asking where the closest camping ground with decent quality Toilet & Shower facilities would be to Black Mountain or Bruce Ridge MTB trials?
Looking for a campground with good clean facilities please .
Don’t wish to be camping at a campground with dodgy facilities.
Thanks in advance !
