Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Weston Park is right on Lake Burley Griffin at Yarralumla. It has excellent shared bike paths, a small petting zoo, mini train, cafe and water features. There are usually a few kangaroos eating the grass. The park is big and it’s easy to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The point is a good spot to launch a kayak from and there are several designated swimming spots. It can get a little crowded near the petting zoo on a sunny day but it’s easy to get away from the crowds.

We enjoyed the celebration of a 2 year old friend here. Perfect place form them to run around with great park equipment which incorporates water and music.

If your visiting Canberra with kids, this is a great place for them to let off some steam.

We love Weston Park! Lovely spring blossom; gorgeous autumn colour; the lake, the walkways and picnic areas. Lots of places for kids to play - and secluded areas where you can sit and get away from it all - and it's free, with plenty of parking. The heritage garden centre is worth a visit: a big range of plants and garden products for sale. The nearby cafe is surrounded by a lovely garden, but tends to be a let-down. Expensive, OK for a coffee but last time we visited it the well- thumbed, dirty menus, uncleared tables and general grubbiness stopped us ordering lunch. A pity! The little place by the miniature railway was cleaner and much better value.

A delightful place for a family day out with a picnic or barbecue. The cafes close early but the gates are open until 7.30 in the evenings in summer. We took an overseas visitor there early last evening, to see and photograph the kangaroos. He was not disappointed! Do visit.

Based on summary on official Canberra tourism website & recent trip advisor reviews decided to ride bikes from Questacon to Weston Park, with 4 & 7 year olds on training wheels. The prospect of a real maze & treehouse by Lake Burley Griffin was enough to provide the incentive needed for them to pedal the 5kms. Luckily my kids were easily appeased with lollies as a treat for their fantastic efforts! No maze/ or treehouse. Extremely tired miniature railway & dingy cafe. The park itself was fine, it amused the kids - a few climbing spiderweb frames, swings, diggers in sand pit & water play area. My beef was with the official descripton of the park which is extremely misleading!!!

Don't assume they are open based on advertised hours of operations and don't assume that because they sold you a ticket they will operate!

We arrived over 30 mins before they were supposed to close and we just missed a train departure. I purchased three tickets for myself and two kids (they overcharged me but that's another story) and the staff members failed to volunteer information that the next ride was in fact 30 mins away. I probably should have asked... I accept that's my fault.

We went to a nearby playground and then returned 10 min before the train was due to depart and before they were set to close. We asked if we could board, showed our tickets and was told by a friendly young driver, "sure,go ahead". We waited patiently and then minutes later we we told they were now closed and in fact we would have to leave. I was now left with a 2.5 and 4.5 year old who didn't understand why we couldn't ride. I asked why they sold me tickets and let us board when they had no intentions of running the ride and he shrugged his shoulders. The senior staff member couldn't even look at me or my kids when I asked for a refund and it was left to the younger staff member (who was obviously more customer focussed and appeared embarassed) who drove the train to give me the money back (no refund on credit card surcharge either).

I left, annoyed that they didn't seem to care that they disappointed my kids, at an age they didn't understand (after all you spend the day telling the kids that if you behave, you might get a surprise).

After returning to the hotel (kids still upset), we rearranged the next day's plans to return to the park first thing to deliver on a promised train ride. All signage at the venue says... Opens 9am. What this actually means is opens 9.30am and train *should* commence at 10am.

When my wife politely advised their signage said they open at 9am and why they weren't open we were rudely told the signage was old and they shut the gates in our faces. No apology for the inconvenience.

After all the effort, it wasn't worth the bother. Apart from the friendly younger train driver, everything about this attraction was poor. $5 per person (regardless of age) for a rather pathetic train ride around 3 farm animals.

Lovely playground with musical instruments, climbing frame, water and sand pit. Then there’s mini golf n the lovely miniature train ride. Cafe is good with good coffee too. Great venue for a picnic as there are many benches around the clean toilets. You can easily spend a few hours here. Spotting several kangaroos and free parking is the icing on the cake.

I didn't even know this existed, but our guide gave us the history. In 2001 an asylum seeker boat sunk off the coast of Christmas Island. 353 people drowned, including 146 children, 142 women and 65 men. This was politically embarrassing for John Howard, and he subsequently refused permission for a memorial to be erected on the Federal side of Lake Burley Griffin, so the organisers of the memorial got permission from the ACT government. What stands now is a representation of the 353 dead in the form of painted poles - short for children and tall for adults - snaking down a hillside at Weston Park towards the lake.

When you touch the poles and read the messages from those who donated them, you can't help but feel the emotion of the site.

On the opposite of the lake to Black Mountain it has been completely re-vamped by the ACT Government. it has a childrens playground but also lots of other areas for BBQs, family cricket games, quiet places to sit under the trees and just watch the lake and birds. Relax or run around your choice. A great place for birthday parties or just a stroll. Enjoy.

If you have children, this place is ideal. Lots of space to run around in, plus a steam train and lots of playground equipment. If you want a quiet place for a picnic then you can get down to the shores of the lake - very restful beneath the trees. The barbecues work very well, though you may need to arrive early if you plan on having one on a weekend.

A fantastic recreation area for a day out with the family. Lots of open spaces so you don't clash with other visitors. BYO BBQ if you want a guarantee of getting one as there aren't a lot supplied. Kids playground is great and kept our crew busy for hours.
