About
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is nestled at the base of the Tidbinbilla Range, and is only a 40 minute drive south-west of Canberra’s city centre. Located within the reserve is a Sanctuary of five ponds and weirs abundant with wildlife including platypus. There is an over 80% chance of seeing these rare and usually elusive animals! Other native animals you may encounter include koalas, emus, kangaroos and many bird and reptile species. Tidbinbilla is also a leader in conservation with a breeding program focusing on the Northern Corroboree Frog, Southern Brush-Tailed Rock-Wallaby and the Eastern Bettong. Tidbinbilla has a rich cultural landscape dating back over 25 000 years and is the traditional Country of the Ngunnawal people. The Tidbinbilla Valley also reflects the European history of the area with historic homesteads and evidence of farming scattered throughout the reserve. Unique accommodation is available at one of the historic homesteads, Nils Desperandum.

Only 45 minutes from Canberra and a real gem! I went to the Dalsetta Car Park and headed up the trail for Gibraltar Peak - a most enjoyable 3 hours with the full gamut of grasslands, forest and spiritual culture! Thereafter, I headed to the Eucalypt Forest to play 'spot the Koala' but stopped at the 'Homestead' (1860) on the way A fantastic 6 hours spent in the Park and there are so many trails to follow so, be selective or be locked in!!

    LOVE WILDLIFE!!! (be there early!)
Be there when they open to see a platypus! I had zero expectations of seeing one, but we did see one! And lots of birds, and we are sticking with a rock-wallaby for the animal in the bush near the stream. :) The koalas were amazing. We did only see the ones in the enclosure, but they were fun to watch. Would definitely go again! We did the Sanctuary Trail and the Koala Circle.

    So Many Bandicoots!
Tidbinbilla is incredibly peaceful, and it's really amazing to see so many animals in a very natural environment. I've never seen so many bandicoots in my life! The talk from the staff about the koalas was really informative, and it was great to learn about their rehabilitation work. The visitors centre was unfortunately being renovated and was closed, but this just means we'll have to visit again. If you have access to a car I can't think of a nicer way to spend a day in Canberra.

I came here on a visit as a tourist from the UK. There was soo much to see snd do that one day did not feel enough. There was a $14 entrance fee for the car and this included a free map. A car is a necessity as the place is vast.

The visitors centre had really friendly and helpful staff who gave loads of great tips. They also sold drinks, coffee, tea and small snacks like sausage rolls and some pretty cool souvenirs.

The map has a plethora of information on the different types of walks with over 20 hikes ranging from easy 25 minute ones to more challenging 8 hour hikes!

Throughout the reserve there are lots of animals to observe (I saw kangaroors, wallabies and a koala), lots of information about the reserve/animals and plenty of toilets. Thrre were beautiful, stunning views and a lot of historical and cultural information provided.

I loved the experience. My advice would be that some of the information provided needs to be clearer and straightforward as the woman at information provided me with lots of tips and information not on the map but it was a lot of information to digest and take in and this made it hard to plan what to see and do in the limited time we had. It felt quit overwhelming. Also more guided tours should be offered.

Great bush walks and some shorter ones for younger children.
The coffees are too expensive although the large is a medium size. Not a large variety of hot food but I can only assume they don't have a kitchen there so can't cook foods.

The park is not huge but there is so much to discover. It was beautiful to see swamp wallabies in their natural setting. We tried to see platypus but had no success we saw only the sculpture which was not surprising. Luckier were we with the Koalas. We arrived at the feeding time and could see Koala mums with their joeys. There are many beautiful walk and viewpoints. We spent a wonderful day out.

What a spectacular place with amazing hikes and view looking out over Canberra in the distance. We did the Gibraltar Peak track!

This is a medium to hard track that is approx 8im return with a lot of stairs. The views from the top combined with these amazing rock formations make all the pain worth it though.

This place has been on our radar for years, but this was our first opportunity to visit. Good visitor center, excellent maps of walks and attractions. We spent over 2 hours walking around the Sanctuary-absolutely beautiful, with lots of widlife - and also walked up to Hanging Rock and the Rock Valley homestead ruins. So many great walks to do- we will definitely come back on future trips to Canberra homestead ruins

So lovely to got back after few years. My wife and I planned to hike up to Gibraltar Peak, before hand we visited the Koala Sanctuary. So good to see 3 of them awake eating & climbing. The staff from the visitor centre so lovely & gave us advised which areas best to visit, they also told us that time the ENTRANCE is FREE. Thank you so much. Highly recommend.

A first time visit left us spellbound at this amazing sacred aboriginal site.
We opted for the 13km full walk to the top and were so pleased we did.
Being a weekday we were lucky to only have passed a few people along the track.
The walk was easy with not many steep sections.
From the top the view back towards Canberra was spectacular.
We sat and enjoyed the peace for around an hour before descending and walking back to our car at the visitor centre.
A 5 hour visit must go down as one of the best things I have ever done in Canberra!
Loved this beautiful place!

Great place for those seeking wildlife and hiking. Lots of kangaroos and the koalas in the Eucalyptus Forest were very cool. This is a hidden gem for those visiting Canberra. If you come on business it is worth spending a day here.

We did a gampling trip to Tidbinbilla with young kids. Kids loved the night tour and the tour guides were very professional. The gampling site itself was awesome ...with nice food , selective wine and campfire a bonus. We felt very close to the nature for sure. Highly recommended for young families.

There are walks galore in Tidbinbilla. They vary from short wheelchair access and easy grading to longer mountain and difficult grading. One of those special easy walks is "The Sanctuary" - a must for all ages and lots of information for interaction. You may be fortunate to see a some turtles and platypus on this walk. It is flat, easy and took us around an hour with lots of stops.

A more difficult walk is the climb to Gibraltar Peak - although this is signposted as 3.3 kms one way the signs are incorrect and it is in fact 4.4 kms one way (this makes it 8.8 kms return). It is a steady climb all the way after going through some flat grassland for around 500 metres. Some of the climb in the latter part of the walk is on rocky steps through crevices. The views are spectacular across the valleys to the Tidbinbilla Range and then on the other side to the main range. This is definitely worth it ... take a sandwich and fruit and enjoy lunch at the top.
