About
Wildbark is Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuaries gateway! Enjoy a coffee before entering our critically endangered woodlands. Step back in time and experience Australia's woodlands before clearing and introduced predators took its unique woodland wildlife. Enter the protective predator-proof fence of the sanctuary and watch Echidnas waddle, wildflowers bloom and rare marsupials hop. Mulligans Flat is a sanctuary at the forefront of Australian wildlife conservation. Protecting the largest patch of Box Gum Grassy Woodlands in the world, they work by 'restoring nature, transforming thinking and inspiring action for conservation'. Here locally extinct animals like the Eastern Bettong and Eastern Quoll have been reintroduced to Mulligans Flat, after being absent from mainland Australia for 100 years. It is the only place in Canberra where you can see these critters in the wild. Book a guided Twilight Tour via our website, or download our app for a daytime audio experience.

Although the Sanctuary is opened 24/7, it would be a brave man/woman to explore by themselves. Took advantage of the $65 Twilight tour, a 2-hour-ish walk (off track but mostly flat) with guide (Nikki) and volunteer (Ellen) and spotted bettongs, wallabies, possums, etc with a LED torch. Not to be missed if you want to explore nature with some help. The Sanctuary has other activities as well!

Great easy walks, small hills getting bigger in Goorooyaroo. Lots of birds, kangaroos, wallabies and if you are lucky quolls and bettongs. A variety of eco systems to explore. Stop by Wildbark in Throsby to get a map and find out more.

At night Mulligans Flat transforms and offers up a completely different perspective to day time exploring. Tim was our twilight tour guide and I was swept up in his enthusiasm and passion. Tims knowledge and love for this place was inspiring. There is lots to learn and see on this tour. We were lucky enough to spot wallabies, kangaroos, brush tail possums, multiple Bettongs and even a sugar glider. I will totally do this experience again.

Our guide, Hamish, was full of enthusiasm & knowledge of the fauna & flora of Mulligans Flat & led a great tour helping us spot an echidna, possums, many bettongs, even sugar gliders! And then an elusive quoll! Our o/s guests loved it, a true hi light of their trip. As locals, we will definitely be back for more. It was about 2 hours long but a gentle stroll over relatively flat ground & we stopped at the shed to sit & talk for a bit. An easy walk.

The 3D map is useless because you cannot judge distances between locations. A 2 D map would be much better for walkers. The app only shows 3 walks not all possible walking routes. Ingleburn homestead is listed as a destination on one of the walks but is not to be found anywhere on the maps. When you are walking around Mulligans flat (followng the footpaths) there is NO signage on intersections. MAJOR improvements are needed.

This was a wonderful tour - the guides were knowledgeable and lovely. We learnt so much and saw so many beautiful Australian animals including quolls, bettongs, red neck wallabies and many more. It’s a really important conservation site with vital work being done in researching and looking after our ecosystem and it was very easy to access. The Woodlands are beautiful at night and we left feeling inspired knowing that such excellent work is being done to restore our ecosystem. Thank you to our guides - you are brilliant!

I'm a regular visitor to Mulligan's Flat; I've hiked or biked across every corner of the sanctuary. It's the largest piece of publicly-owned yellow box gum grassy woodland remaining in all of Australia, and the ACT Government has done a fantastic job of restoring this habitat to its holistic, pre-European settler ecosystem. Experiencing the flora and fauna at this sanctuary is an other-world experience. Mulligan's is teeming with native wildlife and plants.

The Twilight Tour was my first experience at Mulligan's after dark and the adventure did not disappoint. We saw heaps of the endangered / reintroduced Eastern Betongs, along with a couple of pairs of Bush Stone Curlew. There were plenty of wallabies, kangaroos, and possums active during the tour. The guide was incredibly knowledgable and talented. Despite being a Mulligan's regular, I still learned a lot about the sanctuary during this tour.

We brought friends and family from the UK onto two Twilight Tours in May and we all loved them both. The team at Mulligan's Flat are enthusiastic, dedicated and knowledgable, and they provide a great experience. The wildlife viewing is terrific, with good sightings of bettongs, wallabies, bush stone curlew, possums and quolls (if you're lucky). It's also a great opportunity to learn about the importance of the critically endangered box gum grassy woodland ecosystem and how the research conducted at Mulligan's Flat (and supported by these tours) is contributing to broader conservation stratgies. So come along for the fun of the wildlife and learn a lot about a precious ecosystem!

Great experience, saw numerous animals and birds. Enjoyable surrounds and pleasant and knowledgeable tour guide and volunteer. Your are undertaking very important work in research and conservation of our fauna and flora and more people should know about it. Keep going. Thank you!

It was so fantastic to get to see one of the very few quolls alive, in Australia tonight!
***Arguably one of the best experiences I've had, one which would be difficult to achieve anywhere else in Australia.

Andy, the Tour guide was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and was able to show our small group of five, a 'sneaky' quoll, many possums, wallabies, and other creatures (e.g. don't freak out, but we were looking at non-scary spiders too!).

This "Walk" was taken on a last minute whim (as a present from my adult child), and it was one of the most informative and memorable environmental experiences I have had in a very long time. For example, the last time was in 1980s, where I was able to hold and marvel at a young Tasmanian Devil.

Many thanks to you, Andy!
We had a great time tonight.
