- Vincent R.Amersfoort, The Netherlands632 contributionsGreat hike through the gorge. Think about your safety. An amazing hike through the gorge really. Not too long, not too short either, this hike is just the sweet spot. A little hard to get to the start (we started at the parking by the beach). It is a remote area with not phone network coverage, so think about some safety procedures and how to communicate in case of an accident.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 October 2023
- Sweeton CCanada102 contributionsLovely hike.Lovely, peaceful walk, a bit muddy in places. We went in February on a Friday and there was lots of room to park up by the road. I would recommend driving down the lane to the Venetian Bridge as it is a steep hike back up and not a bad drive down. There is parking for a few cars down there. The walk itself is well marked and well worn. There are little bridges over the creek but some of the path was flooded so good hiking boots are a must. We found it took longer than indicated and although we walked down for about 1.45hr we never reached the waterfall as we knew the hike back up would take even longer. Even so, it was very pretty and lots of little waterfalls along the way.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 February 2024
- jim d1 contributionBeautiful but hard work if you don’t hike regularlyIdeal weather (warm dry not too hot, not too wet underfoot and low insect count). Started at top car park and went all way to beach. Beautiful : but I am not the fittest, 66yo and overweight. I found it very difficult and tiring. There is a fair amount of scrambling and you have to be very careful (unless fit and nimble) not to stumble and hurt yourself. So much so that I opted to walk the road way back : further and higher but less tricky. By chance was offered a lift half way (many thanks to the young Afghan couple) which saved me a long walk. It’s excellent but don’t take it on lightly! Probably no problem for folks who hike in hills/mountains regularly.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 May 2024
- ecbj-61Ahus, Sweden351 contributionsBeautiful nature and a somewhat challenging walkIt was a beautiful trail with s well prepared rout. It was a bit challenging at times to climb over rocks and jump over waters. We met both older people and quite young children so it is possible for ordinary fit people to take this hike. zjudt take it slow. Good to know is that you need 3 euro in cash to get in.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 May 2024
- Rob J13 contributionsReally Nice walk, although you do need an element of fitness to do it all.To help understand the best options. As it can be confusing, the path is a scramble of rocks, rivers, homemade steps, rough terrain , uneven ground and some good paths but not many! You do need to be reasonably fit and mobile to do this walk. It is not for young children. If you are fit park and the top by the road in the car park of Mouliana and walk down , it takes maybe an hour and a half to walk to the water fall from here and another half an hour to the beach beach. To save some energy and time you can drive down the thin road to the start but there's limited parking space. The Toughest part for me was from the end back to the car park. Because it was very hot with no shade and uphill. There is fresh water from a spring at the beach if you run out of water. I definitely recommend swimming in the sea to refresh but be careful the rocks are sharp. If you are not very mobile you could park the car at the bottom near the beach and walk up to the waterfall which will take you maybe half an hour. Still a little challenging but doable. The women at the entrance is lovely. Its €3 cash to get in, no cards. I did it alone in 4hrs with a swim but im fit and walk fast, too fast at times. There is shade and a cool breeze at times but also hot patches where your exposed. Take plenty of water and wear sensible shoes not flip flops, i wore standard trainers. Well worth the visit.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 13 June 2024

Easy to find track - first half from entrance quite easy and the last half more demanding climbing over rocks etc. We visited in September when only a little water came through the waterfall. Still nice - we enjoyed a refreshing dip of our feet in the small ‘lake’ Starting at 08:30 we were alone on the way down. Very nice views. We were walking up from the bottom so the hike was 30 mins only. Views are nice though. If you would go from up and go down, hike would be 1,5 h.
I recommend to go with small car because roads are narrow. We were with Fiat 500 so the choice was very good.
Hike road is quite good I think you can just take regular sandals, dont need to have hike shoes.
The hike was worth every step and it is not a hard one.

Ideal for those who enjoy challenging hiking. Great views, amazing air. The most delicious figs and medlars. Take more water with you. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing for the hike. A swimsuit is a must. The gorge is about 5 km, in the middle of the path of incredible beauty, height, purity and freshness - a waterfall!! The walk took us, leisurely, about 6 hours there and back. But we didn’t reach the end of the gorge; after the waterfall we returned back.

Very nice walk! We took the long route where you park at the top of the mountain and walk down. Here you will first encounter the waterfall and then the beach. The waterfall is very beautiful and definitely worth it. You can also swim in it, which is nice to cool down after the walk. The beach is also very beautiful, but the waves are too wild, making swimming here impossible. You pay €3 per person to walk in the domain. The walk is doable, even with the family (although the short route may be better), but be sure to wear good closed shoes and take plenty of water with you. The waterfall is a popular attraction, so you will meet many other hikers, and group excursions are also organized to visit the waterfall. We were stuck behind a group that wasn't walking very fast. The narrow paths make it difficult to pass, which caused some frustration. Also keep in mind that when you arrive at the end point (i.e. the beach), you have to walk all the way up again, making it a total of about 10km. There are tickets from a taxi company, so if the climb is no longer possible, I suspect that you can also just take a taxi.

Worth the effort if you like hiking. It’s a 2hr hike from the car park at the roadside, or a half hour walk from the beach car park. We took the easy option and drove the track down to the beach. It’s a steep and rough concrete road, but quite drivable if you are competent, about 5.5kms. The walk up to the falls is not level, and is a rocky, hands on scramble in places. It is also wet and muddy in a few places. We wore proper hiking shoes. Sturdy trainers would be ok. It’s not a walk for flip flops (thongs) or fashion shoes.

Very nice hike. Uneven and fun route with rocks to climb, footbridges, stairs. Nothing insurmountable, no dizzying passage but you must be in good shape, well shod, well equipped, with water + snacks.
Access: We left from the upper car park, and in nice weather the track makes a good approach. The bridge parking lot is small.
1 hour 30 minutes down, 1 hour 45 minutes back up.
We were with our 2 daughters (4 and 8 years old), totally doable with the motivation of the waterfall at the end and because the weather conditions were ideal (dry weather and not too hot).
I would not recommend it with children in the heat and... if you don't like hiking.

We took the short route, so we first drove to bed. The road to the parking lot is easy. The road is paved and the view is beautiful! Some sections you cannot pass at the same time as an oncoming vehicle, but most of them you can. It's not really steep because we could easily get up everywhere with our rental car (Volkswagen up). Some driving experience is desirable.
The trail to the waterfall is a fun 30 minute hike. Recommended!

The route to the waterfall and back was quite challenging (climbing over rocks, branches, over water). Be careful that you need to walk the route back up as well (total duration between 3-4u walk).
Not a recommendation for doing this with children.

Nice ride. 2 possible routes. by going up from the beach 1h go + 1h return, or by going down 1h30 go 1h return. And if you push to the beach add 1h30 A/R. We opted for the 2nd route by pushing to the beach. Very important!!!! Parking at the entrance of the Gorges (Waze "lachanas bridge") otherwise it is hard. 3 euros entry per person. Walk practically in the forest. Very well marked, red, yellow and white. Rocks, bridges, stairs and rope. Not too difficult, but take water because in August....hot! 🥵 Too bad the world has the waterfall, but swimming possible. So we pushed to the beach. Nobody. Normal it is not very suitable for a swim because some rollers and pebble beach. But lay soaking anyway before going up all 😭😭 Fountain of average fresh drinking water at the beach. Practical for cleaning salt 👍. Bizarrely we climbed back faster. Virgin waterfall of people at once👍👍The rest of the climb also faster. Conclusion, a beautiful walk, tiring anyway in the middle of August. Total 4h A/R with swimming of 25mns at the beach

Hej!

Visiting E Crete end of May. Assume park at stone bridge and avoid concrete path back to the car. Mrs H and myself are both in 60's but are also Lake District Walkers. (Where we live !) Do I need a map of Gorge ( Mountain Rescue bang on about it quite rightly !) So could 2 old codgers walk to beach and back in 3 - 4 hrs, starting early?
Written 13 March 2018
me and my friends walked to the beach and back in almost 5hours today (all in 20's). We stopped many times to take pictures and we also stopped by the waterfall to swim there. It was a very nice walk although some parts were challenging, so we definitely recommend proper trekking shoes as stones are quite slippery. Good luck :-)

Hi sorry for delay ,don't check here very often
Just revisited map because we did a lot that week !
We had motorbikes and dropped off main road at the spot marked "richtis snack" on the satellite map ..I can see the bridge on the map but we didn't go that way.I think we parked near there and walked on
Its marked well with arrows and its quite obvious if you've took a wrong turn within a few feet .
A lot of it is in shade as well so its all quite steady .We are mid 50s and there's nothing too hard, the odd bit with slippy rocks where i chose the bum method .Your timing will be fine It seems lots just like to walk to the waterfall then return .We cracked on to the sea which is lovely and about as far as you've come already with shaded picnic spots.
There's a more challenging gorge South of this location on the south coast if you want to check it out.I'll have to revisit for the name etc...

Grazie
Written 27 August 2015
Hi,
To find the entrance go to google maps and search for:
Richtis gorge Exo Mouliana
If you are with a car you can drive down the narrow road from the entrance and park when you see the old bridge. This will save you about 20min walking each way.
The terrain is uneven rocky/muddy, not too difficult but not a walk in the park either. Wear sturdy shoes, tennis shoes generaly OK but if you are uncertain and inexperienced wear hiking boots to protect your ankles. It is possible that you will wet your feet on the way, although most people manage to walk the gorge without getting their shoes wet. In general, avoid visiting with children under 10 years old.
