Lovely view, nice scenery
Be carefull if you have young children from the edges. On the way up the road it is not very safe because it's a narrow road people park cars , pedistrians walk and it's not very safe walking at the edge of the road with children

Great natural view

Pleasant hiking trip Good shoes are must as rocks could be slippy and bring your water too. Most buildings are ruined, but great natural views.

Beautiful
Aug. 2016 • Family
Has been kept in pretty good shape for its age. Cute little shops with some beautiful crafts and trinkets. It was too hot for us to climb to the top but we found out later it was closed that day a yway (is only open when there is a guard up there, and that service is sometimes sporadic). Trail can be dangerous - we heard of a person who fell due to strong winds, and obtained serious injuries.

Hike into magic under a glaring sun
Jul. 2016 • Couples
The upper reaches of the town are accessible until 2PM, 14:00 local. It is hot, steep and beyond magical. Every footfall walks in thousands of footsteps across history. There are layers of magic, ruble and unearthed history here. If you are interested in what it has meant and means to be human, you will be fascinated.

Worth the Climb
Jun. 2016
It looks like it's a mile high but the walk really isn't that bad. The only problem is they close the upper town early so you cannot wait until late in the day to let it cool off. Once you pass the gate, though, the area levels off and there is plenty of exploring to do up top. Of course, the church of Hagia Sofia is the main draw but if you're up for it try to hike all the way to the citadel. Or, just walk the length of the walls for views down into the town.

Amazing!
Apr. 2016 • Couples
Spent a highly enjoyable couple of hours having lunch in the lower town then rambling around the whole site of Monemvasia. Took a little while to find a path to the Upper Town and from there a climb to the (closed) castle. The views were absolutely stunning and worth risking ankles! Many of the paths are very uneven and stony whilst others are extremely shiny and slippery. Worth reading up about this fascinating place before you go as there's not a lot of info as you walk around.

Stunning!
Dec. 2015
We ended up going to Monemvasia instead of Kalamata due to rough seas on the Cruise we were on and I am so glad I got to see this stunning little town. Even though it was raining while we were there, it's just a place you don't forget. We explored every hook and cranny and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. A little hidden gem!

Breathtaking hidden gem only smaller cruise ships can get to.
Oct. 2015
Captivated by our entire Windstar cruise, we were totally blown away by the simplicity and allure of this tiny island in the Aegean. A hidden outpost, how fortunate we were to be on a smaller ship so we could make port here. Hiked to the top where the views were amazing. So so pleased we experienced this fabulous, wonderful piece of the world.

Spectacular
Dec. 2015
This place is one of my favorites. There is a comfortable vibe and everyone is warm and welcoming. What a view.... The craftsmen are also quite unique, make sure you visit the Olive wood craftsmen in the beginning of the entry to the city.
