Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the most polluted and disgusting beach I have ever been to and I live in Cleveland Ohio where our rivers used to catch on fire and our lake was declared “dead”. It is like a landfill with water. There dirty chairs to rent—overpriced-and dirty food shacks that sale junk food-the wrappers to which are discarded on the beach as there are no trash cans. A pay toilet in the parking lot offers pay showers-in a room with an overflowing squat toilet...The problem is that this is the only beach on the Island that does not require a long trek down a massive cliff in 90 plus degree heat. So make sure your shots are updated and pack something to eat if you have to go.

I am surprised at the reviews stating how beautiful this beach is. As an Aussie who lives at the beach maybe I’m spoilt but I did not find this a nice experience by any means. You arrive in a huge carpark and walk down to a beach which has loads of people on it … very dirty lounges, tables and chairs around all the food/drink vendors. Very unpleasant experience wading into the water with rubbish touching your legs and floating past as you’re swimming. The water did not feel clean at all! The amenities block is not large enough to cope with the masses of tourists, one of two squat toilets which are filthy and blocked and you have to pay for it. Did not use the shower but didn’t hear good comments whilst there. Make sure you have your swimmers/bathers/bikini on before you get here as there is nowhere to change apart from this toilet block & the toilet floor is soaked .. so nowhere to put your stuff while you’re changing! It was however, pleasing to learn that a new bigger facility is being built .. it is definitely needed to cope with the huge amount of tourists! If you can, ask to change your tour to stay longer at Kelingking beach (it’s a hike) and avoid Crystal Bay!

We did walk out snorkeling here as we weren't taking a snorkel tour. It's very wavy, so you should not go alone in my opinion if you want to swim out a ways, but you can see some very nice fish, we had more luck early rather than later. Good swimming if you like waves all day. It's possible to rent snorkels and even life jackets and towels, but I'd highly recommend bringing water shoes whether you want to swim or snorkel- lots of broken coral etc. There are a number of beachfront places where you can get a drink and grab a table or sunbed and they are all pretty nice folks! In the morning you'll see local kids surfing on the side which is cool too.

Representing it's name, the water is indeed crystal clear with white sand. There are few shops around. You may rent sand bag and day bed also. Sadly along the beach line you may find rubbish that carried by the waves, and some rubbish still floating in the water.
I think this rubbish issue is coming more and more serious if no one take initiative / action.

Were here during a day trip to Nusa Penida and wanted to take some time to bathe. The beach was rather crowded at around 3PM when we arrived and the blackish sand absorbed the heat where it was near impossible to have a comfortable stroll without proper footwear.
The waters were cleared of much of the corals so not a very nice place for snorkeling. You have to charter one of the boats to go into deeper water to enjoy some good snorkeling.
As is with tourist spots, amenities will be priced higher than normal and I would recommend giving this beach a pass for better ones in and around Bali.

Morning trips are best! The beach is nice, however can be extremely crowded in the afternoon/evening and people had a tendency to leave trash on the beach (we felt really bad that people were that disrespectful). We went back the next morning and it was much cleaner, and the water was better for snorkeling anyway so it worked out better in the end. Warungs line the beach for food, and there is a place to rent snorkeling gear, however there isn't much for shops to by anything other than food or water equipment. Boat traffic can get fairly dangerous if your snorkeling becuase of the sheer amount of boats in the harbour. There is a small island with a temple out in the bay but don't try to swim to it!!!! We saw a man try it and get thrashed on the rocks because of the current on that side of the beach. The local vendors will tell you where the safe place to snorkel is and if you go there with a dive company, you won't have to worry about current at all.
Overall great stop, however better to get there by boat and dive than to stay on the beach, at least in our opinion.

Chill spot, nice waves and beautiful view. But the people working in the restaurant are the worst ever
You can buy “shade” for the price of a nice hotel.
Can’t sit on the table if you don’t eat.
Wouldn’t recommend otherwise bring your own shade, own food 🤗

Beautiful but basic beach with shacks selling good food and cold beers/soda.
Painful to get in the sea without water shoes due to the coral.
Beware, there are no ATMs or mini markets (except a small shop with about 20 items in) only at the harbour.
I loved staying at Crystal Bay bungalows.
Top tip- If you’re looking at the sea on the far left on the right of the cave cafe you’ll see some steep steps. Don’t be put off by this. Climb and walk for about 15-20 mins (You’ll see beautiful butterflies 🦋) and you’ll come to a small secret beach called Pandan beach. Absolutely stunning. There’s a shack there selling snacks and cold drinks.
Good for snorkelling. Bit rough for swimming but you can dip.
Definitely do a Manta Ray trip. I swam with one, absolute highlight!!

This beach has beautiful sand and clear waters. It can become quite crowded because all of the tours take a stop here for an hour or so. A nice place to relax and take a swim on your tour of Nusa Penida.

My partner and I went down to Crystal Bay on the first day we arrived to watch the sunset. Unfortunately it was cloudy and we weren't able to experience the beautiful sunset we had seen in pictures. Nonetheless I was amazed by the beauty of the islands, ocean and bay. There were only a few food stands that were open. Mr. Wayans food stand provided us with cold Bintangs, and he brought us next door for dinner. It was delicious, and was a great price. The friendly and cute dogs made the experience even better, as well as the view!

How much is it per person to go snorkeling with Manta Rays from Crystal Bay?
How much would a private boat charter be?
Can the snorkeling trip with Manta Rays be done in the afternoon as well? or is it only in the morning?

I am looking to book a Manta Ray snorkelling trip from Crystal Bay.
I am planning on briefly visiting Lembongan and Ceningan in the morning, getting a ferry over to Nusa Penida at 12pm and then staying overnight on Nusa Penida.
I have read that most of the Manta Snorkelling Trips depart early in the morning however, if I arrive at Crystal Bay at around 12pm/1pm, can I still get a 2/3hr private boat snorkelling trip or do they not run in the afternoons? Also, how much would it cost for a 2 person private boat trip?
Thanks

Are there paddle boards or kayaks for rent from the beach, perhaps at a nearby hotel?
Written 11 March 2018
I'm not sure around the beach there are nearby hotels and row / kayak board rentals like her do not exist.

is it easy to book a snorkeling trip on the beach? how much will it cost?
Written 10 August 2017
Yes you can book snorkeling there. But the guys are not very friendly and it is (compared to other snorkling-spots) very expensive!!
They charge you 50k for just the (really shitty!!) equipment for 1 hour, snorkeling trip 1 hour just to manta bay is 200k (not private)
It‘s not negotiable..
Book your snorkeling trip from Lembogan, there you get a private tour for 200k per Person for 4 hours and as many spots as you like, including all the equipment. (And crystal bay is actually just a 10min drive ;))
At gili‘s you pay like 100k per person for 4 hours.
