Our friends from Geelong wanted to see the Tarkine and what better way to show them than a cruise on the Arthur River. A couple of years ago we travelled on the Red Boat, but we were happy to do the Deluxe Cruise this time as the Red Boat was in dry dock. Though overcast, the rain held off & many of the passengers, including ourselves, tended to view the river from the top deck. Our guests found the very comprehensive commentary on the history & the special geological and botanical features of the river to be most informative. The Deluxe Cruise stops at a different landing to the Red Boat, and the walk through the rain forest is a photographer’s paradise. Lunch was a delicious steak & salad, and an opportunity to chat with other passengers. As a Tasmanian it was pleasing to hear all the positive comments from the inter-staters about the stunning beauty of the Tasmanian wilderness, and how the cruise had given them a different perspective on this. A lovely relaxing cruise up the Arthur River. Comfortable seats indoors and a deck on top allowing 360 degree views as we travelled up the river. Friendly staff who gave some brief commentary as we progressed up the river - perhaps a bit more detail in the commentary would be a good idea. Toilet on the boat. Lunch and bushwalk were also included. The bushwalk was low impact and the lunch a delicious BBQ. Highly recommended.…

There was no other option but the 'Deluxe' cruise as the cheaper Red-Boat trip was not operating when we visited Arthur River. $150 a head seemed pricey, but afterwards we had no qualms about paying that and in fact thought it money well spent. The tour ran seamlessly, leaving the wharf on time at 10 and back by 3.00. The two young sisters running the show were brilliant at sharing the duties including commentary, steering, barbecuing and leading a bushwalk ... and probably a few more tasks we didn't notice. On board, we were treated to an excellent morning tea (bubbly for those who wanted it) and then after our bushwalk enjoyed a very satisfying barbecue lunch. Both meals were based around top-quality Tassie ingredients. We had sea-eagle feeding (plus some aerobatics) and the delightful bushwalk along the way, but to me the highlight was the Arthur River itself and the dense rainforest crowding its banks, especially as the river narrowed. I found it a bit reminiscent of the going-upriver scenes from Apocalypse Now, but fortunately there was no Colonel Kurtz waiting for us at the campsite.…

Outstanding day out on the river. Beautiful environment, the boat and staff were engaging - knowledgeable - and great fun. Sea Eagle display was awesome, the bush walk followed by a terrific BBQ rounded off a marvellous day. Definitely recommended.
