Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing & stunning displays of model ships & various other artefacts & handicrafts including artistic embroidered goods which captivates the visitors while assisted by Sarita & her able colleagues.

Amazing place for wooden ship models fans. All models are made in the worship, maintaining all the details. Very precise work for very patient people. But the final result is really breathtaking. Apart of variety of ships the shop offers also a range of souvenirs and jewelry. Worth visiting.

This was our 2nd trip back to Mauritius and after the first trip where we first encountered this model factory, decided I wanted a model of the victory for my desk.
I contacted the shop direct whilst there and arranged a visit on one of our days out.I have read reviews here about the shop selling cheap tourist tack but this is not the case.you are greeted by one of the staff at the door and they accompany you around the shop giving you advise and information on their products.there is absolutely no. pressure. The model I purchased was wrapped with a carry handle and at 75cm long plus packing was not small but arrived with me back in the UK in one piece. If you are into naval history this is a great place to visit.fantastic detailed models and very reasonable prices compared to here (uk).very pleased with my purchase and thoroughly recommend a visit.

This Workshop cum gallery is a complete treat for an art lover. They have built so many ship models and miniatures of boats. that much fine artwork needs a lot of patience and steady hands. One must visit this place and witness the craft.

There are 2 interesting parts to this attraction. (1) First, is the workshop where they make model ships. As soon as you reach Le port, a guide receives you and explains the nuances of model-building. You are first taken to the workshop. At first sight it looks chaotic. When you look closely, you realise that there are a few master craftsmen/ Craftswomen who have perfected the craft of model building over the years. They have accurate engineering designs of some ships that sailed in the African coast during the 15th - 19th centuries. Using carefully chosen wood, cloth and strings they skilfully reproduce these designs. Truly interesting to watch. They have a separate metal factory that makes brass fittings (like miniature cannon); these are brought here and affixed suitably by master craftsmen. Photography is permitted in the workshop.
(2)The second part is the commercial showroom. Here they display a variety of ships. planes , jewellery and souvenirs. The display is attractive and tempting. Personally, I liked the souvenir section. They have a special packing process to pack delicate models so that your purchases don't get damaged when you take it on your return flight. Photography is NOT permitted in the showroom.
Some of the popular models are available in travel-worthy packing condition in the Duty-Free shop of Mauritius Airport. Yet, I think it would be better to choose and buy what you like at the factory showroom. They may agree to despatch the merchandise directly to your destination--- but I suspect that would be expensive. It might be cost effective only if you buy a large bulky model, that cannot be carried as hand luggage. You need to discuss this before buying.

No surprise to stop at a craft shop to try and encourage you to spend money. However this was interesting to see the skill in making the ships of all sizes. Then into the shop not too pushy but a very well appointed store with lots of choice. Don’t be too upset and embrace the local culture. We brought some nice things and not too expensive

Avoid this if you can. We stopped off here as part of a day trip run by a local tour company. The whole place is a tourist trap. Whilst the ships are pretty, the whole shop sells overpriced rubbish. Avoid the surrounding shops which sell counterfeit goods at crazy prices. The shop owners are very pushy and made us feel very uncomfortable. Couldn't wait to get back on the minibus to continue our day.
I think maybe there is a commission based incentive for tour operators to take passengers here as the the taxis and minibuses came by the dozen and there is really nothing else to see
