June 2020 • Couples
Two couples in their sixties and we had a wonderful day canoeing north of Renmark. Canoes, life jackets and a map provided by our amicable provider, at a very reasonable price per boat. We took our own picnic lunch and managed four hours on the river 10:30 to 2:30. A very enjoyable day out with lots of bird life to observe .

Have used the service at Canoe the Riverland and Jim and Ruth have always been welcoming, fantastic and incredibly helpful. The prices are incredibly affordable and there’s an option to spend and hour, two, four or even the whole day on the water. The kayaks are in good condition and the creeks are beautiful and serene to paddle about it. Enjoyed my experience both times and cannot recommend the business enough for a beautiful day exploring the Murray waters

We did the sunset kayak with Ruth. It was my favourite part of visiting the Riverland. I was worried about getting in the kayak and worried about falling out! Ruth put my mind at ease and assisted me and there were no problems. Ruth is very knowledgeable about the River and wildlife and we got to learn while we paddled. The landscape looked amazing as the sun went down - we saw kangaroos and so many different types of bids. You don't need any previous experience to do this tour. It was great to be present and focus on what I was doing - great for wellbeing.

Ruth was a delight to paddle with and was very informative about the river ecosystem, wetlands management, birds, animals and fish. Very easy paddling, not strenuous at all. She also kindly rearranged our tour time without any fuss when bad weather rolled in, resulting in us being able to get on the river 2 days later but in completely perfect conditions, something that not all tour operators would do! Tour runs mostly through the side channels so you are off the main river with the houseboat / other boat traffic which is nice. Would highly recommend. Don’t forget a pair of binoculars, handy to look at some of the birds you see along the way.

Ruth also runs the PS Julie Fay B&B which is a unique accommodation and experience not to be missed if you are looking for somewhere to stay!

Beautiful area teeming with birds and even kangaroos to explore for a ridiculously cheap price. I got experience the Murray river in its serenity in a single kayak without any time pressures to return the craft. I got to explore the area at my own leisure and pace and could not of asked for a better way to experience the Murray. The staff are also very helpful and friendly.

Value For Money: You can’t ask for a better experience for the price. $55 for a double canoe for the full day is a bargain.

Staff: The hosts were great, a true example of the friendly Aussie Mateship I’ve come to love about SA. They were knowledgeable and happy to spend time teaching before launch and great conversation about the wildlife etc afterwards.

Experience: This whole experience was second to none. I’m over visiting from Scotland, so the prospect of going out on a river that doesn’t have 12” thick ice was appealing. The canoe just added an extra bit of fun. The kids loved it almost as much as the adults. There is loads of wildlife to see and despite feeling like I’ve just had a full workout, it’s not that strenuous on the Canoe so it’s suitable for most people. I was surprised at how steady the canoes were so there was no fear of taking an unexpected dip. In addition, the canoes are big enough for a small Eski, so bring along a picnic or (in real Aussie style) a few cold ones and make a day of it.

Conclusion: A 5* experience at a super affordable price. Great fun and you really feel like you’ve worked off the breakfast. I highly recommend. Jim and Ruth were just the cherry on the cake. Thanks again guys!

This is the second time I have done the sunset kayaking tour with Jim. The first time, I went alone. I loved it so much that this time I took my sister and brother-in-law who were visiting from the UK. They were thrilled (as was I) to be guided by Jim, who is not only passionate about the Riverland, but also has a wealth of local knowledge about fauna, flora, history, ecology. His keen eye had us observing many birds as they went about their evening rituals. He also gives you time just to absorb being on the river and is happy to answer questions. Even if you haven't kayaked before, he will make you feel at ease. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to learn a little more about the River Murray and its many inhabitants.

Had a fantastic time with canoe the riverland. Originally we did the dinghy tour with Jim and this was wonderful we saw so much wildlife, and learnt a lot about the river and the plants as well as birdlife and animals. It was very relaxing and we took heaps of photos. The following day we went out by ourselves in the kayak on a self=guided tour which again was fantastic. All safety equipment was supplied and a wet bag to help keep the camera dry. Will definitely be returning to do this again, highly recommend

Ruth was an incredible guide - very knowledgeable. This was the first tour of my American friend's roadtrip and definitely didn't disappoint! Even though the weather meant no obvious sunset, Ruth's information of the local wildlife and the area meant we all had a great time.

What a brilliant adventure for the whole family (including our 5year old)... We had a kayak delivered to our camping site & away we all went! There were pelicans everywhere... & a few bunyips. It was cheap (24hour hire) & so easy to organise- the definite highlight of our little camping trip. We are already planning our return visit:)
