Hyttklokka is positioned at the top of Morkstugata, in proximity to Malmplassen. Hyttklokka was used to notify workers at the smelthytta(smelter hut) when work started and finished. The bell was probably also used as an alarm, to warn of fires, for example. If you take a photo of Hyttklokka with the church in the background, you will have captured the classic Roros setting.

Lovely old buildings

This is a lovely old complex of buildings that show how farms and buildings were built 300-odd years ago. It doesn't take long to wander around but it is fascinating to see how... read more

It was very quiet but warm in september 2014. I enjoyed dogging into the history of Norway and Roros - this is all that this village is about. Quier streets, small shops and coffee-houses and lots of people enjoying themselves

One of the classic Røros picture motives, is the Hyttklokka with the church in the background. You will probably pass the bell when wandering the area, and hopefully there will be placed more information about it, as it is certainly part of the Røros history and should be valuated thereafter.

Nothing special. Lack of information why this bell is built and when it was used. I hope that someday there will be and information sign.

This is a lovely old complex of buildings that show how farms and buildings were built 300-odd years ago. It doesn't take long to wander around but it is fascinating to see how things were done, especially when it is completely foreign to you. No special effort is needed to get there as you'll come across it as you wander... More

You don't need a lot of time to see this. But it is worth i quick peek as it is apparently a famous landmark in Røros. Although there are no signs explaning or informing what the bell actually is...

There is no information about the significance of this bell when you are there. It was to notify the workers of the start and end of the working day. It was also used as an alarm if there were any fires. You will find it uphill just as you approach the Smelting museum.

Lack of information about the bell tower should be improved. Authentic part of Røros still, and a natural part of a sightseeing walk.
