This St Jaoquim’s Catholic Church was built between 1859 and 1869 and is a very interesting church as commemorates Spain's victory against the Moors at the Battle of Tetuan, and Spain a foothold in Ceuta – an enclave in Morocco – now in an independent Philippines, it is symbolic of the nation’s love both of religion and architecture. It stands... More

Supposedly the "most beautiful cemetery in all of Asia", San Joaquin Cemetery is one of the best preserved Spanish-colonial cemeteries in Iloilo. However, there was some renovation going on, and I'm not an expert on cemeteries, but for me, it was no big deal. The Church itself was closed, and couldn't get in. The extra 15 or so kilometer drive... More

The church is located on the quiet side of the town's plaza. It is very captivating on the outside, but it's a pity it was closed so we couldn't view the inside. We were told that it is kept closed when not in use because local youths use the place to hang out.

Before embarking to my Bacolod-Ilo-ilo and Guimaras Escapade, St Joaquin Church was an in case itinerary, but the visit was worth it. Almost 2 hours of travel via a PUJ then a tricycle, we finally reached our destination! The church was awesome! The craftmaship and the intricate carvings on the facade of the church would awe everyone. The theme of... More

Its sculpted relief on the Church's facade is one of a kind and very beautiful. When you do the Tour of the churches in iloilo, this is the farthest. Jeep from the city costs P60 one way. No wonder, it's already halfway to Antique.

It took us almost 2 hours to get here from the wet market in iloilo (super). The church is simple but unique and by looking at it, it calmed down all our senses. Since we just had a long travel, we've maximized our time by exploring the san joaquin park and sports stadium which is beside the church. The Stadium... More

This Church is Often over looked. It is a Gem of Iloilo worth Visiting. The Carvings in front of the Church depicting the Battle of Tetuan is a sight to Behold. Do not Miss this Church!

This Catholic Church was built between 1859 and 1869 and is most interesting as it commemorates Spain's victory (a continent away!) against the Moors. I was unable to gain entry as being lunchtime hunger took over and I failed to look for an open side door. The attached extract from http://historicphilippines.com/historic-churches-i/st-joaquin-church-san-joaquin-iloilo/ explains much about this Church while http://journeyingjames.com/2010/12/san-joaquin-iloilo-over-shadowed-and-unseen-quaintness/ has some...
