Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely playground for the kids, or a romantic spot for a picnic, The beach is not suitable for long walks, by the reserve next door is.

short walk from Birkenhead to Little Shoal Bay through gorgeous bush and loud birdsong which is surprising as it is in the heart of a populated suburb

Regardless if it high or low tide this park is very nice, ideal for kids, families, couples or someone who just want to relax and read a book while laying on the grass.
It has some BBQ facilities, exercise equipment and of course plenty of space to walk around.
Also, the view of the city is amazing as it is just across the harbour..

Great spot on a sunny day. Overnight Campervans find the carpark useful. What a view of Auckland City. And a coin operated BBQ too along with a fitness trail!

Great park for young kids, lots of space to run around. The playground has been improved heaps and is quite big now with lots of activities to do. There is even some gym equipment for the adults.

Beautiful bay and a lovely walk, also close to where I live. The bay is pretty shallow so perfect for kids to swim, nice walking along the bay.

Little Shoal Bay Reserve bush walk is a beautiful walk. The tracks are in a good condition and it's very peaceful. There are many exits depending on how far you want to go. Sadly there isn't a circle of tracks, so you end up by the street having to go back the same way or walk a small distance on the street to find the next entrance. I wouldn't recommend people driving to reach this bush, but it's definitely a nice place to walk if you are nearby.

This park has everything. There is a good play park for kids (yes there are swings). There is built in exercise equipment for those wanting a free gym work out. There are great views of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. There are open playing fields. When the wind is right, it is an excellent place to fly kites. Across the road there is a tennis, court and football fields. Then beyond the fields they are some wonderful walking tracks through the bush. The different tracks can take you through to Onewa Road and other side roads off Hinemoa Street. It feels like a different world when you are in there. There is plenty of parking. You can paddle your feet in the water but it is not suitable for swimming. There are also toilets. A great place to take your fish and chips on a summers evening.

I love this place. your own private rain forest. You can walk into from a few sides, but just a few feet in from the street and the hustle and bustle of city life is gone. The birds chirp, the stream trickles down and the walk through the bush is well worth it. In total I'd say less than a mile total walk from long end to end. It is worth it and I run through or walk it when it's not raining here quite often.

We parked in the reserve at Little Shoal Bay and walked by road to the Birkenhead Wharf, then up the steep steps to Palmerston Rd to Hinemoa St where we had a coffee at the Villa Cafe then down Glade Place to the Little Shoal Bay Valley. Gravelled pathways in the bush link with Le Roys Bush and down to the main Bay. Good walking surface but a little bit of care needed. There are other entry points linked from Seaview Avenue and Valley Road. Overall, a good easy interesting walk.
