The Magnificent 8
Nov. 2019
This made a pleasant change to play an old style golf course which is not a boomers track, it was in very good condition but was very busy, the clubhouse is small and dated maybe is not the right word but close, however the locker room is very nice.
The staff were all very friendly especially those in the pro shop.
This course is walkable.

Enjoyed playing this course
Nov. 2019
As visitors we received a friendly welcome and enjoyed playing this course. It was in good condition .Started on the 11th and had the course very much to ourselves so played a fast round .Would have welcomed more signs directing us to the next tee as not always clear and no with no golfers ahead we were helped by ground staff where to go next. Did feel at times that some of the holes were much the same .
Good course for holiday golf.

Nice Golf Club
Jan. 2019
Really nice course, the water drought contributed to a better round for myself. Would be far more intimidating with the hazards all in play. Weird that if you're playing 18 holes you have to have a break and wait for ten minutes in the bar until you can continue your play. Club hire was good with Taylor Made clubs and a full bag. Would recommend!

Worst golfing experience in recent years
Dec. 2018
Okay so here’s the good bits - the course was in reasonable condition and it’s okay for a holiday round but it’s very samey. The changing room facilities are excellent (ladies) and my husband said his were okay - maybe they’re due to be refurbished. The halfway hut was the main clubhouse and that was okay. The staff were all pleasant.

So, the downside. We detected an air of gentle hostility from the members - I suspect they don’t want tourists playing their course - my husband plays of 7 and I play off 17 so we aren’t the average holiday hacker. We opted to take caddies who were very good indeed and very good at clubbing and giving lines.

So, we were a 2 ball with tour caddies sandwiched between 4 balls. That was fine with us. We easily kept up with the group in front and the group
Behind us didn’t encroach on us until the Back 9. I don’t know if something changed but the group in front of us searched for a couple
Of balls on the 11th meaning we had nowhere to go until they moved on. The group behind started launching balls at us from the 11th onwards. After the 14th hole we walked towards the 15th tee and there was a ball on the ground beside the men’s tee. Our caddy picked it up and cleaned it because it thought it was one of our balls. It wasn’t. One of the men behind cane racing up and spoke. I said pardon. He abruptly said I’m not talking to you I’m speaking to your caddy. He was unnecessarily aggressive towards him.
Then when we were waiting to tee off on 18 a ball flew over my head and my caddy’s head and thumped onto the ground in front of us. There was no warning from the group behind. I’d had enough and waited for them to come up. No apology forthcoming. I said that could have hit one of us. He said it landed on the green and bounced. No it did not I said. Anyhow cutting a long story short we had quite a ding dong and I went into the pro shop and complained to the manager. He was extremely nice about it and said he would speak to the gentleman ( aka thug) concerned.

Suffice to say we didn’t stay for a drink as we would normally do. I was very shaken by such a horrible encounter on a golf course. The man involved clearly do not like women and was indescribably rude and aggressive.

Royal Cape Golf Club will never be graced with our presence again. The members clearly don’t want visitors and they are rude and aggressive.

Slightly dissappointing

Nice enough course with a period clubhouse and reasonable green fees. Despite the drought the course was in good condition, but it doesn't have the spectacular views of many other course around the Cape.

And that matters to us because my husband collects his shirts from around the world and wears them proudly.

Great backdrop!

Met with a warm welcome by helpful and friendly staff. Set on our way with a minimum of fuss, onto a golf course that was in very good condition considering the water conditions in Cape Town at the time. Greens ran true and well, with the back nine proving more interesting and a challenge than the front nine.
Après golf was good too! Thanks Royal Cape.

Worth a knock here

Established in 1885, the club house has a nice feel to it.
The course is interesting enough, most fairways are tree lined and there is a reasonable variety of holes, some with the lovely mountain backdrop.
Green fee of R800 for visitor with no affiliations was fair. Pitch repairer @ R170 too expensive!

Course in good condition despite the drought

Greens are running good, fairways are nice, and the staff are incredibly lovely. There is more of a 'chilled out' vibe compared to some other golf clubs around the world. Green fees for visitors are reasonable.
