Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The walk to the waterfall started from the back of the Heritage Lodge where for safety reasons they took our names, time of departure and approximate time of return. Nice to know someone is watching your back! Not that the walk is difficult, but incase of a freak accident neither Martin or I wanted to experience our own version of the film 127 hours.
Along the way Martin spotted at least seven water pythons; we also saw yabbies, butterflies and fish.
It took us four hours to get there and back. I'm the slow, steady type but Martin almost floated above the rocks! I'm convinced without me he'd have made it there and back in under two hours.
We stayed at the waterfall for half an hour enjoying the spectacular view of this high multi tiered waterfall and jumping into the rock pool. I found a rock to prop up on and we had great waterfall massages! Martin climbed to the next pool above, I tried but am not good with heights so half way up I turned back to the safety of the lowest pool.
This was the second time to walk to the waterfall for me. The first time was at the end of December after it had been raining here and there throughout the month. There was more wading through water and negotiating slippery rocks. Martin and I did this walk in August and it was much drier so there was more walking along dry rocky water course beds.
A great adventure if you like exploring remote places safely where its unlikely you'll come across other people. A big thank you to the owners of the Heritage Lodge for allowing access and taking on the responsibility of looking out for us.

The walk starts behind the Heritage Lodge and Spa on Turpentine road. Ask for Vicki and say you would like to do the walk to the waterfall. She won't let you go after 10am as it takes most people 5+hours. There is no track to follow, you literally get in the creek and follow it upstream for about 2 hours to the waterfall at the base of the mountain. We did this walk a day after a thunder storm so there was a bit more water than usual but this made it better as the waterfall was flowing well. You definitely need to have at least a low level of fitness as it is a long walk over big rocks and boulders and some swimming is also involved. There was also a few trees down which were tricky to climb over/under/around. The first half of the walk is easier than the second half. As you start to get further up the mountain the rocks get bigger and more slippery and you will fall over a lot. It is a hard walk but well worth it when you get to the top as the waterfall is amazing and the scenery along the way is pretty awesome too.

When I was a teenager I read a book of survival where the main character was lost in the wilderness and followed the path of a creek to civilization, ever since I have wanted the same experience and this hike definately scratched that itch.
You are looking at a minimum 1 1/2 hour hike each way along a stoney creek, it is not an easy walk and my girlfriend turned back after 1/2 an hour (which meant I did an extra hour as I accompanied her back). But you will be rewarded with the waterfall and a swim in the rock pool below.
I didn't see another human or any signs of humanity during this hike and you are totally isolated in the heart of the worlds oldest rainforest.
The hike starts behind the Heritage Lodge however they no longer acknowledge its existence (theres even a sign in the driveway saying it doesn't start there) as they do not want tourist invading their lovely resort. Park on the street outside the lodge and walk in or even better stay a couple days at the lodge.
Make sure it has not been raining heavily before your hike, take 2 litres of water, let someone know you are going on the hike and start before lunch (you do not want to be stuck there in the dark).
You will love this hike.

It took about 2 hours to walk to the falls one way. You have to walk up the creek bed, it is not an easy walk. Wear good shoes suitable for walking on rocks under water, some of which are slippery.

It was well worth the 2.5 hour trek through creeks and some pretty ordinary terrain with 'wait a while' plants grabbing you, to get to the bottom of some of the most spectacular falls that I've seen.

This was a lovely waterfall on our trip around the rainforest it was easy to access most parts and a beautiful place to stop. There were parts I didn’t access due to limited mobility, but plenty for me access and see.

On our drive up to Cape Tribulation, we stopped in Diwan to check out Alexandra Bay Waterfall. It was a good walk to get there and back, not too challenging but nice to stretch our legs and feel the mist off the falls.

Was a great walk upstream to the falls
Not another soul around very peaceful. Took about 3 hrs to get there taking it easy and stopping for photos and about 2.5hrs coming back as it was late and didnt want to be wandering in the dark
Just wade along in the creek upstream and the second half was a bit more tricky hopping across slippery rocks but well worth it... Much better than the paved walkways and boardwalks in the overcrowded touristy areas. This place is a hidden gem and hope it stays as it is
Just watch out for the wait a while
