Excellent castle lots to see

A fabulous castle, so much remains and gives you a great impression of how it has changed over the years. A good cafe and visitors centre, plus audio guides if you want one. Well worth a visit. Great views from the Keep tower but very narrow and twisty steps up to the roof. For an excellent lunch nearby go to the Inn on the Wye at Kerne Bridge, 5 minutes drive away from Goodrich village.

Good experience.

At Goodrich Castle you are allowed to explore all the battlements at your own risk which was great fun. Climbing inside the turrets and imagining what it was like in the battles certainly opens your eyes to what it was like. Then it was time for lunch in the cafe served by Bernie who was informative about the castle and made a fuss of Harry our border collie which was lovely. The ploughmans and soup were very tasty and reasonably priced too. All in all an enjoyable experience all round.

Interesting castle.

There is a choice of having a free audio tour or reading the information boards - we chose the latter and found the information to be very interesting and it certainly helped to bring the castle ruins to life. The food in the cafe was reasonably priced although there was not a great selectin of cakes available. The parking charge of £3 seems an unnecessary extra.

Beautiful
Aug. 2021
Beautiful medieval castle, towering above the River Wye with panoramic views. Knowledgeable site personnel giving interesting insight into the fascinating history.
We visited on a Sunday and the café/restaurant offered a BBQ outdoors, excellent food and value for money.
Friendly staff!
Would visit again.

Expensive
Aug. 2021 • Friends
We visited Goodrich Castle after driving past the signs. The visitor centre was smart and well maintained, and the castle itself was well signposted with lots of information. Surprisingly you could walk around /on all of it and even climb to the top which gave great views all around. It was very quiet when we were there and we found it pretty and interesting but we felt that you couldn't really have spent much more than an hour there which made it expensive for the price, though we appreciate that the cost goes to maintain English Heritage in general, not just this castle. Parking added to the overall cost (£27 for 2).
