This is a great park with wonderful camping spots, but the true delight is to get into the wilderness at the trail head that terminates at the park. Go six miles in to the river and the quiet of the Los Padres wilderness.

This park used to be a gem to stay at, but because of the enormous popularity of Big Sur, it has become an absolute zoo to visit the park and area now; not to mention the almost impossibility of getting a camp site. It is...More

Surrounded by redwoods with a perfectly clear stream trickling nearby and the sunlight cutting through the tree canopy is the most perfect way to wake up from a night under canvass. The campsite is delightful with enough space for everyone to spread out and find...More

This is another must on your LA to SF drive. Views and scenery that you have to see, feel and breathe yourself.... photos do not do this justice. This was perfect to follow the 17 Mile Drive at Pebble Beach.

Friend and I loved our campground stay for one night. She drove and I was biking the coast. The campsites were spacious and the no noise rule was intact making for a very personal camping experience where neighbors didn't intrude at all. Restrooms and showers...More

Lovely redwoods at the beginning and a good workout to the top. Were here right after labor day so it was a bit quieter. A little disappointed to find out that our state park fee did not cover Pfeiffer Beach, which is managed by the...More

Don't rush, drive slowly! Saw lots of expensive sports cars on the road, and why not? This is the setting where you want to drive it; seaside views, curvy bends in the road etc.!

Stunning places to take photos. The tide pools are full of life and it is not overly crowded. When the weather is clear, the water is a beautiful blue color!

I felt like I was in a magical, fairly land- it was an otherworldly experience. So many tall trees, so much greenery, a lovely creek running through the middle of the site- it was truly beautiful. We camped here in August in the lower camp,...More

A great place to visit and see. The area is rugged, with beauty like no where else in the world. The water is cold, so bring a wet suit if you are going to swim.

No. It is closed at Gorda until the end of the summer. You can only get to Big Sur from the north through Monterey.
