Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This tour tries, with commendable success, to provide more than just a tourist attraction. The history, geology, and evolution of these fascinating creations are reviewed, as is their critical role in Mayan culture and religion. Our guide, “Iggy”, was knowledgeable and entertaining and went the extra mile in looking after his guests. The cenotes themselves are just amazing and viewing them with the background of the four stages of evolution added immensely to the interest factor. The extra activities of zip lining, kayaking and rappelling were a bonus to most guests, but maybe a little sacrilegious....not to be a spoil sport. Highly recommend as a must alternative to sea and sand.

I tried to use the bike that came with my rental to go to a cenote, but I quickly found out that the road is too narrow, and the traffic too heavy and fast to allow for a safe bike ride. So I looked instead for the colectivo that could take me to the different cenotes, because I did not want to go on organized tours. It is very easy if you're not afraid to walk a little because the colectivo only travels on the main road from Puerto Morelos to Leona Vicario, 39 kms away, and some cenotes are far inland. You take the colectivo near the Parque Colonia, in the village (across OXXO, there is a sign with the timetable), and you tell the driver which cenote you would like to go. They will probably tell you which ones are close to the road (Verde Lucero, Popol Vuh, and the one at km 23 which I recommend, small cave, very clean and beautiful surroundings. You have to keep in mind that the colectivos leave Leona Vicario to return to PM with the same timetable, and wait for them on the main road.

Please, rent a car and get to La Ruta de los Cenotes, it is a local highway in Puerto Morelos, right in between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. This 35km road, has a lot of places on both sides of the road, CENOTES which are huge swells of clear, fresh water, are amazing, just go and take a swuim in these places and you will be amazed, this is much better than all of the water parks in the region. the best ones, Verde Lucero, Las Mojarras and 7 bocas. Check out KIN HA, 2 cenotes and four wheelers make this a great adeventure. Incredible experience, a must do if you are in the area.

19 cenotes to choose from in 30 km rota. From 150 peso per person open cenote Verde Lucero, to Selvatica, a top rated Jungle/cenote experience, withbziplining, ATV, etc, the Ruta de los Cenotes is great. Only accessible by car or tour vans, because of the narrow road, do not walk or bike.

Excellent place to go if you want to avoid the super commercial travel experiences. The road is paved and in good repair. There are about 15 or cenotes to choose from which are on smaller dirt roads heading off the main road into the jungle. We chose 7 Bocas Cenote and were not disappointed. Would like to try others in the future. A great day...

We had a rental car during our 9 days in Puerto Morales. Several days we drove up the Ruta as it is easily accessible.
When we saw a sign for a cenote, we would drive down the dirt roads - some long and some short.
When we arrived, we would ask to look around and see the cenote. Sometimes we would leave if it didn't appeal to us.
Just fun to poke around.

Cenotes are the limestone pits that dot the Yucutan
Water flows in filtered from the sea through the limestone rocks
Beautiful clear blue waters
Two types of Cenotes - covered ones you decend via a ladder to swim and open Cenotes where you dive into the waters off a cliff
You are often and usually not allowed to take photos on the excursion trips

The access from puerto morelos with colectivo is very difficult...20 pesos/person.
There are just one or 2 every hour... And for the kin-ha Cenote you will have the 6 last kilometers to do by walk.
I think the best way is with a local taxi around 500 pesos from puerto.
We arrived at 3:30pm, and the cenotes closed at 5:00pm...
So we abandon the kin-ha project for the verde lucero Cenote which is on the border of the road, only 300 meters by walk.. But it was too expensive 15$/person...for 1 hour !!!...
Next !
Tomorrow it will be the azul Cenote on the road to tulum... 100 pesos/each and an easy access by colectivo !
Maybe kin-ha and verde lucero are amazing...?! Bad chance for us...

We have been to cenotes out here over the years. 7 Bocas was not our favorite. Beautiful grounds, very tidy, but the cenotes were more of a caving adventure, not a swimming one. It was going into one, following a rope through the caves (tons of bats!) and exiting through a different hole. In one we swam for awhile in sunlight. Different experience.
Our favorite is Zapote cenotes.

Visit many cenotes along the way. Hardly any traffic but be careful as both sides of road have vegetation up to road. All roads leading to individual cenotes are horrible. Need bigger vehicle and good tires

Hola!

Hi Micarmand,
I was wondering, when you say "close to the road", how much walking does that add up to, more or less? We are traveling with a person that had a hard time walking, especially in the heat, so we are trying to decide if a cenote close to the road is doable, or we should hire a taxi for that. Thanks!

Most require that you drive in to a parking lot. The 7 Bocas was a long way I on a dirt road but once there parking lot was close to the cenotes with easy access. You do need to climb down stairs/ladders to access most of them

The way I understand it La Ruta de Los Cenotes is a road with many Cenotes along it? Is that correct? I have rental SUV so planning on taking that down this road early in AM and hitting some of these.

Puedes llevar tus alimentos y bebidas, saludos

What is the best way to get there from Cancun? Bus? Rent a car? Tour?
Written 5 January 2018
Renting a car, or buying a travel package. Bus will take you only to Puerto Morelos, from there you could take a taxi perhaps. But the Ruta de Cenotes is 30km long and has 19 major cenote locations, some better than others. One is rated highly here on TripAdvisor, Selvatica.
